Knocked the Wind Out of Me

Million Dollar Baby is not only a movie about boxing, but even more, it is about humanity. A hard-shelled boxing trainer (Eastwood)is turned to jelly by the tragic and shocking events that happen in the life of a boxer (Swank). Eastwood, the director, gives one of his most-versatile performances, and Swank is captivating. You will likely think about this movie for days. Best movie I've seen in some time.

asses are made to bear and so are you

I was 'forced' to watch this for my english lit. A level. At first I remembered how much I had hated romeo and juliet, but once the movie started I was amazed! I actually ENJOYED a Shakespeare adaption. No doubt thanks to the gorgeous Liz Taylor and Richard Burton. Katherina is one of the most compelling characters to have ever been thought up, and as much as I despise Petruchio for his complete torture of kate, I find him an amusing and wonderful character. Unfortunatley the film is let down by cutting half of Katherina's lines, and becase they KEPT Shakespeare's appauling ending... (it's late and I don't remember accuratly but something to the effect of 'yeah, stand on my hand if it makes you feel better, Petruchio dearest.' Could that be any more degrading to such a strong-willed intelligent character?) Great film and play.

A Magnificent Concert !

There are so many reviews on Les Miserables In Concert that the only I can do is just to say that I agree with all the reviwers. I just cannot understand why the DVD version is shorter than the VHS. Some people also say that the VHS version has a better quality than the DVD. I have seen the DVD and I enjoyed it. Now I am also buying the VHS just because the additional 26 minutes. I will of course check the quality.

The most erotic, best acted, well-thought-of 90's movie!

Elizabeth Berkely has no flaw on her delicious body what so ever! This movie was just outstanding! Everything made sense to me at the end of the movie! There was just something about this movie that makes me want to come back for more. It is truly and must-see! Not only was I arroused by all of the great nudity, but I also thought that there was an excellent story behind the movie! I loved it!
My only complaint was that the rape scene near the end of the movie was a little too hardcore and exposed. It was a bit horrifying! It made me feel very sad. But, this movie made me feel great and I would recommend this erotic movie to anyone! Don't even worry about the NC-17 Rating, it was great! Elizabeth Berkeley, (formally Jesse on "Saved By The Bell") is the hottest chick ever!

'Wise' choice for Mariah

First, let me clear up any confusion about the title and the concept of the movie: it's a feminine take on the term wiseguy and no, this is not a chick flick. Before actually sitting down to watch the movie, I read some really positive reviews about the movie that praised the cast and their performances--the big shocker being that Mariah's portayal of Raychel garnered the most compliments. The story itself was well written. It flowed evenly and like other professional critics have said--the casting was perfect. The film itself takes place in Staten Island, NY (actually Halifax and Dartmouth, Nova Scotica, Canada). The plot revolves around our heroine Meghan "Meg" Kennedy (Oscar winner Mira Sorvino), a med school drop out who is trying to start her life over after suffering a traumatic loss. She eventually gets a job at Il Santalino, an upscale Italian eatery, and quickly learns via her new found friends sweet ingenue Kate (Melora Walters, "Boogie Nights," "Magnolia") and the graceful but brassy Raychel (Mariah Carey, who does a complete rebound after her disasterous big screen debut in "Glitter") that the restaurant is actually a front for a major drug cartel. Meg grapples with her conflicted feelings of accepting accepting c-notes from mobsters just for being pretty, while at the same time avoiding the unwanted romantic advances of her boss's sleazy son. Sooner than you can say "al dente" the climax comes about in the form of an undercover cop (I won't tell who it is) who corners Meg and forces her to gather incriminating evidence against the Santalinos an their cociane-sniffing associates. The film then dissolves into an epilogue that reveals the outcome of three central characters. You'll want to stick around for the surprise ending.
As for the acting, I thought it was top notch. I must say that I was especially impressed by Ms. Carey's performance. Having seen "Glitter" I was dreading having to be subjected to watching any of the scenes Mariah was in. She amazingly and surprisingly did very well. The only complaint I have about her performance, was her Brooklyn accent--it sounded so fake. One would think she'd be able to pull off a more convincing one, being as she is a born-and-bred Long Islander. Mira Sorvino did a great job as always. Not an Oscar-worthy role, but none the less a good one. I thought Melora Walters's character Kate registered weekly at first. She was shy, funny, even cute. However, a certain plot device used later on in the film totally explains everything. The special features on the DVD are quite limited: only the trailer and Spanish and English subtitles are included. If you like comedy-dramas or are just in the mood for a well-done, perfectly constructed, modestly-budgeted movie, then by all means see "Wisegirls."

Excellent Movie

I have sat and watched this move a number of times and never get tired of it. The cast if top notch and the special effects are wonderful. Of course, it's pure escapist so it should be judged on just what is presented to you...not reality.

Friday the 13th - movie DVD cover picture
Friday The 13th (1980)

In 1974, director Tobe Hooper had brought us the frightening, "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre". In 1978, just four years after "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre", John Carpenter, brought us the terrifying, "Halloween". Both films may have chilled us all to the bone, but those films did not define the term, "Slasher Flick".

In 1980, director Sean S. Cunningham brought us the infamous, "Friday The 13th", the film that had definite potential in defining, "Slasher Flick". It was the one horror movie that really made you re-think your camping trip.

In the summer of 1957, 11-year-old Jason Voorhees (played by Ari Lehman) drowned in the lake, while at Camp Crystal Lake. In the summer of 1958, two counselors, Barry (played by Willie Adams) and Claudette (played by Debra S. Hayes), were brutally slaughtered. Since then, Camp Crystal Lake was shut down, due to the unsolved murders. But on Friday, June 13th, 1980, exactly 22 years after the two murders, Steve Christy (played by Peter Brouwer) has re-opened Camp Crystal Lake, where has hired seven new counselors: Jack Burrell (played by Kevin Bacon), Ned Rubinstein (played by Mark Nelson), Marcie Cunningham (played by Jeannine Taylor), Brenda (played by Laurie Bartram), Bill (played by Harry Crosby), Annie (played by Robbi Morgan), & Alice Hardy (played by Adrienne King).

Only six of the counselors have arrived at Camp Crystal Lake. Annie is still on her way, but she has come across the anonymous killer, who had killed the two others 22 years ago. Poor Annie didn't have a chance to live the rest of her life.

Steve Christy goes off on an errands, while the other six continue to get the place in shape for the little kids. But Ned, Jack, Marcie, Brenda, and Bill meet the same fate as Annie, where they are killed by the same anonymous killer, until Alice is the only one left alive. She finds Bill's dead body and runs back to the main cabin, barricading the door. But as she locks all the doors in the cabin, Brenda's dead body is thrown through the kitchen window. Alice runs into the living and sees a jeep pull up. She runs out to meet the driver in the jeep. The driver in the jeep is a woman named Pamela Voorhees. She reveals her true identity as the brutal killer of this whole ordeal. Her motive: the death of her son, Jason Voorhees. She claims the two counselors she murdered in 1958 were the ones that allowed Jason to drown, while they were sleeping together. After a long battle with Mrs. Voorhees, Alice grabs a machete and decapitates Mrs. Voorhees.
Alice, relieved that she has finally stopped the madness, climbs into a canoe and drifts off into the lake. She awakes the next morning to the sound of a police calling out to her. But as she looks up, Jason's rotting corpse jumps up out of the water and pulls Alice underneath the water, but Alice finds herself in the hospital. The sheriff of Crystal Lake asks if Alice remembers anything. She remembers everything, including her dream of Jason pulling her into the water. The sheriff brings to Alice's attention that there was no boy.

Advice from me to you: Camping does not seem like a good idea right now. But cheer up. Grab your copy of Friday The 13th and enjoy it, until everything dies down at Camp Crystal Lake.
