Killer Klowns Kick As-k Anyone

Killer Klowns is Hysterical. Kampy, Klunky, and Kustard-filled. This is the kind of movie only young maniacs like the Chiodos could dream up. You'll never look at a balloon animal the same way again. Popcorn sticking to your sweater will seem ominous... Now I can get the creeps just by walking in my front door. Get the DVD. This movie is a kult klassic.

A Must Have

I first saw this movie in my high school French class and I have searched for 5 years for a copy of it. Finally, I found it and it still captures my heart. It's somewhat a romantic movie for women-not the gore usually associated with the Phantom. The second half is the best part. Comments have been made about the brief fades but the movie was prepared for television and I was just grateful to have the dvd that I barely noticed. Dance does a wonderful job as the phantom and I am sure I am not the only female to wish I were Christine. I think the movie does a good job at letting the audience like both Eric and Phillipe. We can see why she loves them both, but I think I would have chosen to stay with Eric in his enchanted realm. And I think Dance has the most wonderful voice. I just enjoyed hearing him talk. Buy this movie and enjoy. You'll watch it again and again.

Mussorgsky - Khovanshchina / Abbado, Ghiaurov, Atlantov, Vienna State Opera - movie DVD cover picture
A really great Opera.

Khovanshchina considered by many to be Mussorgsky's greatest work is grand opera in the greatest sense. There is ballet, huge choruses, and even a on-stage brass band (which sounded really good too).
The Vienna Opera Orchestra/Vienna Philharmonic is one of the best orchestra's around. Claudio Abbado does a really good job balancing this score out, but still letting it go foreword with a lot of energy.
Overall I would recommend trying to watch this DVD or even getting it. It is a really good production. The DVD has good sound and picture quality. The camera work is pretty good considering how large the stage is. The staging of the opera is not as conducive to the camera as it is actually being in the theater. This doesn't bother the visual element to much though.

The Winslow Boy - movie DVD cover picture
Let Right Be Done

One of the most interesting films of '99, The Winslow Boy may not be for everyone. No cars careen around corners and explode, no guns are fired. Instead David Mamet (House of Games, The Spanish Prisoner, Glengarry Glen Ross) in his movie adaption of Terrance Rattigan's ever popular British play, based on a true story, creates an English world of 1910 on the eve of WWI, women's sufferage and the rest of the modern age. With dramatic, precisely crafted dialogue he raises such questions as: the standing of the least before the highest, justice vs. moral truth, the costs of the pursuit of truth and the difficulty seperating truth from lies. Featuring Jeremy Northam (Emma, The Net), Nigel Hawthorne (Madness of King George), Rebecca Pigeon (Spanish Prisoner, and also David Mamet's wife), her brother Matthew Pigeon, Gemma Jones (Sense & Sensibility), Colin Stinton, and thirteen year old Guy Edwards as Ronnie Winslow, the accused. They all do fine job, but particularly outstanding are Northam as Sir Robert Morton, Hawthorne as the father Arthur Winslow, Jones as Grace Winslow and Edwards. Benoit Delhomme's John Singer Sargeant like cinema photography brings to life end of Victorian England. As Mamet wrote in Three Uses of the Knife: "During the O.J. Simpson case..it occurred to me that a legal battle consisted not in a search for truth but in jockeying for the right to pick the central issue."

Almost Perfect

It is amazing that after releasing all 72 bootlegs from their Binaural Tour, Pearl Jam also decided to release this DVD, whis is absolutely imperative to have for all the jamheads out there. And it is a great DVD, with the performances and the European footage and the instrumental songs. My main complaint about it is the setlist. Where is Black?? It is just a staple song played at most of PJ concerts, but they didn't include a version here. I think the Vegas version is just beautiful. And I think they should also have included Baba, and Yellow Ledbetter, which were regular appearances towards the end of the North American shows. And what about Elderly Woman..., it is also a great live PJ song that should've been included. Anyway, I guess whatever the setlist was, PJ would never be able to please all their fans. It would take to release all 72 videos as well to do so. But this is still a great video and a great gift to their fans from one of the best rock n roll bands ever.

Baby Einstein - Baby Beethoven - Symphony of Fun - movie DVD cover picture
it's great

My daughter absolutely LOVES Baby Beethoven. She's been watching the Einstein series since she was about 8 - 10 weeks old. When she gets tired and fussy, I put her in her bouncer and turn on the Baby Beethoven DVD - she instantly stops fussing, relaxes (the arms and legs actually stop flailing around!), and is completely mesmerized by the toys and music. Although she likes The Book of Pooh and Rolie Polie Olie, neither of those have the same hypnotic effect on her! It's good to know that if she's watching TV, at least it is educational! Oh, and do yourself a HUGE favor and buy the DVD instead of the VHS. It has a Repeat Play option that when the show ends, it automatically starts at the beginning again (and it completely bypasses the advertisements at the beginning). We also have Baby Einstein: Language (I find this tape very annoying, so we don't watch it anymore), Baby Bach, Baby Mozart, Baby VanGogh and Baby Shakespeare on VHS, and she fusses like CRAZY when I have to rewind the tape, so we learned that DVD is the way to go! Hope your little one enjoys the Baby Einstein series as much as mine does!!!!

Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed - movie DVD cover picture
"If u don't like this movie--u need your head examined!

"Don't listen to the last reviewer, It's quit obvious that some people don't know what films are about sometimes--sometimes they amount to more than just simple plain entertainment. Just like Martin Scorcees's "Taxie Driver" the film mirrors the nilihism, cynicism of soecity, here being-- of the late 1960's. Reflecting Fisher's parinoia take and look on society. This time The Baron is not the anti-hero, he is the monster, who is simply alienated in a soceity that refuses the ethics of science. He has tried many time, countless experiments, countless failures, he has become sick and embittered with soceity, and downright misanthorpic. There's alot that this film offers, but if you merely decide to dissmiss the film as just another Frankestein film, or if your one of those people who prefer the Universal Frankenstein series---then ur lost. At least Hammer came up with something new everytime, it kept the whole Frankenstein myth fresh, and if anything Hammer's Frankenstein series is vastly superior to there often Overrated Dracula films (excluding "Horror", Prince of Darkness" and "Taste") And like the movie "Taxie Driver"-which was Scorsess's masterpiece, Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed" is Terence Fisher's Masterpiece.

The Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs of Clay Animation.

Just when the media thought that quirky director, Tim Burton, couldn't get more imaginative and more different, he did. This film is unlike any film I have ever seen. What I find stunning is that the audience finds passion and feeling coming from two characters made of clay. It is really a feast for the eyes, and even the ears being that it is a musical. One of Burton's greatest acheivments, this film I feel is more for the adults than it is for the children. I highly reccomend this film for any Tim Burton fan.

FINAL FLASH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh man, the action in this boxset is incredible! After a year of grueling training in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, Vegeta has ascended to a level far beyond the Super Saiyan. And he's ready to whoop Cell's @$$ bigtime. The look on Cell's face after Vegeta shows him his ascended form is priceless. It's really great to finally see Vegeta back on top again. Vegeta absolutely decimates Cell. In the end however, Vegeta lets his pride rob him of his judgment, and he actually HELPS CELL ABSORB ANDROID 18!!! As Dave Chappelle would say, "Man, Vegeta's f*****g up!" But despite Vegeta's idiotic move, this is still a great saga. Make sure to pick this one up before watching the Cell Games Saga. And I've just gotta say, the Final Flash is one of the COOLEST moves ever seen in DBZ. I can still hear Vegeta laughing his @$$ off. HA HA HAAAAA!!!! HAAA HAAA HAAAAA!!!!
