Hilarious Show

This is probably one of the most over looked and hilarious television shows of the 1990s - if you find yourself questioning what the rest of America finds so funny about Full House, when shows like the Ben Stiller Show and Get a Life get cancelled, than do yourself a favor and buy this dvd! Commentaries for each episode are almost as hilarious as the episodes themselves -I guarantee more laughs on one episode than on the entire run of Suddenly Susan. Buy this DVD now!!!

Small Time Crooks has big-time laughs

Woody Allen plays an inept ex-con who has a scheme for breaking into a bank. He plans to buy a store which is adjacent to the bank and then to make an underground tunnel to the bank vault. When he asks his wife, played by Tracey Ullman, to help finance the project, she balks. Eventually she gives in and becomes his "front man" by baking cookies in the store they buy. The cookies become unbelievably successful and suddenly they are richer than in their wildest dreams. Tracey decides that she must become more cultured to fit into their new social set and she asks an art dealer, played by Hugh Grant, to tutor her in the social graces. This he does willingly with an eye to cashing in on her fortune. This movie is well-written and well-acted. The lines are witty and there is even a moral here with regard to love and loyalty. No Woody Allen darkness here--just a delightful 90-minute romp!

Excellent and Superb Performance!

I saw this concert on PBS for the first time last month and it totally blew me away! It rocked and the intensity of the band was awesome! They have certainly gotten better and better with time. They certainly know how to touch a person's heart and soul. The Moody Blues were awesome at "RED ROCKS", but they're performance at "ROYAL ALBERT HALL" was better then awesome simply EXCELLENT! I'd give them 10 stars if I could. ~~Moody Blues Fan Forever!~~

Frankenstein - movie DVD cover picture
It's alive!

James Whale's dark, thrilling 1931 masterpiece of Classic Horror, and the film that catapulted Boris Karloff to stardom. FRANKENSTEIN has for years been the Cream of the Crop of Classic Horror, next to the Bela Lugosi production of DRACULA, also made in 1931. I very much enjoyed the Documentary Supplement hosted by David J. Skal, which gives brief but worthwhile mention to the 1910 Edison's Frankenstein, and fascinating history on how "Hollywood Made a Monster". Don't be fooled by the use of the words "The Restored Version" on this DVD, because every single cut that was left out of the film for many years is now back. Most prolifically the infamous "In the name of God - now I know what it feels like to be God!" can now be heard. The Feature Commentary by Rudy Behlmer is also fascinating. Also check out the "BOO" short on the main menu, you'll be sure to enjoy it.

True Art

It is very rare these days to have a movie that is a massive hit at the theater and is also an artistic accomplishment of the first order. Even better is when the subject matter happens to be one of the best stories ever written.
Although I am a huge fan of all three Lord of the Rings movies, The Return of the King stands head and shoulders above the rest. The Fellowship of the Ring was amazing, and introduced us to Peter Jackson's vision of Middle Earth (which was eerily similar to mine and thousands of other fans mental images). The Two Towers showed us how impressive the battle scenes could be, and was an incredible film adaptation of a difficult book. These first two movies set up the scene and action for the third movie to become a true work of art.
Peter Jackson's true achievement with this film is being able to move effortlessly between grand vistas of action and intimate dialogue and character interaction. While it is essentially a war movie on a scale never seen before, it contains the most touching scenes of any of the three movies. Some scenes that stand out in my mind, and that aren't mentioned all that often:
Gandalf driving the Nazgul away from Faramir and the riders returning from Osgiliath - This is the only scene I have ever seen in a movie that truly moved me. The scene is directly from the book. When the light comes forth from Gandalf's staff, the music changes to a simple choral piece, the Nazgul retreat, and the shot changes to a horse following Gandalf and Pippin as they ride a wide arc to meet Faramir and the riders, the effect is spellbinding. It's something that anyone else would probably have deleted from the movie, but I can't imagine this movie without it. Without a doubt, it is my favorite scene from all three movies.
Gandalf and Pippin talking about death while waiting for the trolls to break the gate - Gandalf's description of death to Pippin is very tender and touching, and is accurate to the books.
The battle at the Black Gates of Mordor - When Aragorn turns his head and tells Gandalf, "For Frodo", you are transfixed. The concept of freedom from evil or death is nowhere more clearly displayed in the movies, and there is no explanation needed. The director's true genius is displayed through, when the company charges Sauron's army, Merry and Pippin being the first to start running. The entire company appears inspired by their courage, and the audience is, also.
The reactions by the Fellowship when they see Sauron's reign ending - Gandalf's facial expressions are absolute perfection, as are Aragorn's. Jackson's decision to just let the music play with no audible dialogue is masterful. The images of Merry and Pippin yelling "FRODO!" make your spine tingle, and Aragorn's and Merry's faces when Mount Doom explodes are heartbreaking.
The four hobbits back at the Green Dragon - Anyone who has been away from home and accomplished anything, and then returned to somewhere where nobody knew or cared should really get this scene. You really sympathize with the Hobbits, who are renowned as heroes throughout Middle Earth, but regarded as kooks at home.
Frodo's last look at Sam, Merry, and Pippin - Classic, and a perfect ending.
In all respects this movie is art of the highest order. It is visually beautiful, it tells a story, it is emotionally touching, and it is inspiring. These are all characteristics that cinema, and the art world at large, has absolutely forgotten. I am thankful that when my favorite piece of literature outside of the Bible was put to film, that the people responsible had the intelligence and wherewithal to do it correctly, even arguably perfectly. Well Done!

Frank Herbert's Children of Dune (TV Miniseries) - movie DVD cover picture

I found this mini series to be VERY well done and enjoyable! I thought that the characters were done well and the acting was good also. The effects were also very well done! I wish they would do ALL of Herbert's books this way....without cutting stuff out as the David Lynch film has had done to it..
Very well done and a MUST buy for any Dune fan!
