The Lost Boys - movie DVD cover picture

This movie has been my favorite since I was 8 years old! I would have to say it's the best vampire movie of all time because of the coolness of all of the characters-even grandpa! The movie team couldn't have picked better songs for it. Kiefer Sutherland was the best. I've seen (and own) just about every Kiefer movie there is. I once had an autographed pic from him when I was 9 and I lost it....I'm now 20 years old and would love to meet him or find out an address where I can write to him! SEE THIS MOVIE! if you haven't you are deprived from the best movie ever!

Finding Forrester - movie DVD cover picture
Excellent movie

Sound familiar? A kid from a rough neighborhood and an old man with former ambitions meet and both their lives are completely turned around. The boy realizes that he is smarter then his former bad grades let on and the old man learns that he can still find a life past his recent failures. Good Will Hunting, right? Well, yes, but it is also the basic premise for Finding Forrester. Though the story is tweaked a bit and toned down from the R-rated Hunting, Forrester does come off as being a little too familiar, being released around three years after the Miramax feature, but can the similarities really hurt it? In actuality, not really. There have been plenty of Dead Poet Society knock-offs that have made pretty decent coin at the box office in recent years but none of them equal the quality of the original. So in essence there is both a good side as well as a bad side to this situation. Can Forrester break this trend? History is against the film but Connery is pretty select on his choice of scripts, so there is at least some hope for it.
The story is pretty much the same as Good Will Hunting minus the witty charm of Ben Affleck and Robin Williams. William Forrester, a vibrant writer from New York, wrote the great American novel nearly four decades ago but ever since then he has basically vanished from the face of the earth. Or so many people thought. A sixteen year old student named Jamal Wallace meets up with the famous author when he breaks into his apartment one night and leaves his backpack behind. Jamal is amazed to find that his writings are returned with corrections made to the documents. When Mr. Wallace is accepted to an elite Manhattan prep school, he returns to the old recluse seeking help and inspiration for writing. After some time Mr. Forrester agrees but on two conditions: Jamal can not tell anyone about the whereabouts of William Forrester and no questions on why he only wrote one book. As time goes on they begin to look beyond the stereotypes they once believed and teach each other something about life. The story for Finding Forrester is quite well done despite borrowing several influences from the previously mentioned Good Will Hunting. If you are literature buff then you will greatly enjoy some of mentioned works in the film. If you're not then you will find the several scenes a bit confusing but your overall experience shouldn't be greatly affected.
Though the cast is a relative bunch of no names, the leading roles, for the most part, perform exceedingly well. Sean Connery shows that he can still act off much younger co-stars amazingly well as he does with Rob Brown. Connery really showcases a former writer who had enough of what society thought his book was about and sunk into a deep depression especially after the loss of the several members of his family. The most enchanting scenes with the veteran actor have to be him riding his bicycle through the streets of New York. It seems so awkward that it becomes quite charming and heart-warming to witness in this feature. Rob Brown, as ill experienced as he may be, does a wonderful job considering he is performing opposite one of the prominent veteran actors of our time. One of the few flaws in the film has to be the character played by Anna Paquin, who recently appeared in the summer hit, X-Men. It has nothing to do with the performance, Paquin did an excellent job with the material that was given to her, but has rather to do with the character itself. The film suggests a growing romantic relationship between her and Brown's character but once the main premise of the feature rises to its climax, the whole romantic side story disappears completely.
Overall, Finding Forrester managed to do what many of its predecessors couldn't by actually being entertaining despite borrowing several elements from critically-acclaimed Good Will Hunting. One those borrowed elements would have to be the talented actor Matt Damon, who cameos as Mr. Forrester's lawyer near the end of the feature. The timing and way the scene was handled made the cameo quite a delight considering thoughts of Hunting had to be on the minds of many movie-goers. The few problems with feature would have to include the longer then needed time length and some side stories including the romantic relationship between two characters that aren't explored fully in the film. Outside of those small complaints, Finding Forrester succeeds at being quite an entertaining romp despite feeling all too familiar to movie-goers. Not as entertaining as Good Will Hunting but it can be said that filmmakers never intended that to happen.

cant get much better

This movie is great, i shouldnt have to say anymore, but i will.start of the seventh grade, new assignment, "what would you do to change the world, and put it into action"this is what Trevor McKinney is faced with on his first day in seventh grade.he comes up with the idea of PAY IT FORWARDdo a big favor for 3 people who in turn pay it forward to 3 others and so on.but there is so much more to this movie than this. all the actors are perfect. Helen Hunt plays his mother, and Kevin Spacey his teacher that gave the assignment, also co-starring James Caviezel and Angie Dickenson.but what i liked about this movie is that every character has their own story to tell, and Director Mimi Leder has captured it in such a way that you feel what everyone has gone through. this is the only film i can remember feeling this way about every character. so if you can watch this movie, with the lights down low and have total concentration then this is a movie that you can get lost in and will definetly stick with you for a long time.the DVD is a great buy (f you are interested).

Forget Contact and Gump, this is Zemeckis at his best!

Zany, irreverent, and smart! Along with the Back to the Future Trilogy and Death Becomes Her, this stands as one of the greatest films by director Robert Zemeckis. Roger Rabbit has more depth of character than expected. Christopher Lloyd offers a chilling portrait of cold-blooded justice gone insane, while Bob Hoskins offers a great straight-(hu)man performance opposite Roger. A pure joy to watch. Dump Gump and cut off Contact, this is Zemeckis at top form.

Great films...but not on DVD

These three masterpieces should be on DVD, but I heard a rumor that Lucas did not want them released on DVD till all 6 episodes were out on video. That way, all 6 would be released as a box set with an enormous price tag. Just a rumor though, so take it with a grain of salt. Anyhow, these movies deserve nothing less than 5 stars. They're clear classics that will forever be adored by many fans.

Gilmore Girls- The Complete Third Season

Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel are the two best actors on the planet! They work together so well showing a relationship between a mother and daughter. They warm your heart up with their jokes and their wacky humor. I personally think this is one of those great shows you can easily get hooked on. This show is unlike any other show out there. It's for every age. It's so easy to watch. The third season is great! I bought the second seaon a few weeks ago and I just had to buy this seaon after the last episode in the second season. This will make you laugh, cry, and feel good.

Incredible to eyes, ears and heart

Finally the legend of those shows comes to us in high quality, beautifully done packaging, and artful handling of all the material is extremely well done. This is an absolute must own DVD and anyone who knows anything about Stevie will want this in their collection. Considering when these shows were originally video taped and recorded, the restored audio mixing and the brightened video color correction and editing are top notch. You can see the care and quality Epic and Legacy put into restoring and releasing these two concerts. The documentary feature that's added as a bonus element rounds out the content by letting the viewer hear about those days straight from those that were there and witnessed it. There are wonderful stories and reflections from Tommy and Chris, and Jackson Browne adds his reflections. Adding John Mayer to the show was also a nice touch, and he speaks so well and the sound quotes that director Michael B. Borofsky uses really tells the story of a how SRV's influence and impact to this day remains remarkable. The stills that are used in the documentary make you think that someone new that history was being made on those nights, and director and editor used them brilliantly. The only bad part cant be blamed on Epic or Borofsky, but apparently when the original show in 1985 was videotaped, the cameramen went off duty or something and only one camera captures the performance of the encore and even that camera inexplicably turned off for a couple minutes during Couldn't Stand the Weather. But the audio recording captured it all. Luckily for us, Borofsky and John Jackson who co-produced the DVD had the sense not to cut the audio out when the video goes to black, and allows us through a created montage of images, to continue to hear the music as it was originally performed on that historic day. What a great DVD to own, I highly recommend it. I got it last Wednesday, and have watched it at least three times already.

(Almost)The best DVD

Great acting(even Arni), great sound and a great movie. Cameron seems to be only good 'sequal' director. The 'Almost' in the title is because of; I think the best picture quality is "The perfect storm'. The sound is great, only the same day I watched this DVD, I also watched 'The Rock: The criterion edition'. And that DTS soundtrack will make your neighbours move........ But really. It is absolutely a great DVD. I rate it five stars, because 4,5 is not possible and 4 is not enough
