Chuck Norris' Private Lesson - movie DVD cover picture
A+ instruction , A+ exercise, A+ overall!

This DVD can be broken into three segments:
I. Demonstration
Brilliantly demonstrated by six-time world champion Chuck Norris.
His students are three able students of varying experience. All three help the viewer learn the technigues.
The instructions include basic self-defense and disabling moves that every PERSON, not just women, should know. (Sadly, the idea that this DVD is for women is prevalent).
Each of the moves is understood quickly, then you practice them.
II. Cardio-Karate Workout.
Frankly, don't think of this as your cardio training. Just add this to whatever you do. Because this portion is shown still incorporating some instruction, it moves a little slow. But in practice, you could extend the workout for your practice. Obviously, as with any activity, you must practice the moves.
III. Martial Arts Demonstration
This section features advanced moves from Mr. Norris. It is very interesting.
This DVD should be required viewing for EVERYONE! Every parent should require their children to not just watch this but to practice the moves. Also, for many children this could become a gateway to the martial arts.
Mr.Norris should get involved with the White House, and use this DVD for instruction in schools as part of gym class.
Please purchase it.

And All That Jazz!

This is the heartwarming story of schemers who get away with murder. Set in 1920s Chicago, the film is populated with some of the most despicable characters you will ever see on screen. Richard Gere, playing shyster Billy Flynn, steals the film. He sings, he dances, he smirks, he connives. Gere looks like he was having a lot of fun with the part. Queen Latifah, playing prison matron Mama Morton, is surprisingly good. Catherine Zeta-Jones and Renee Zelweger were amazing as singer/dancer Velma Kelly and celebrity wannbe Roxie Hart.
The music, the singing, the lights are hypnotic. I could not take my eyes off the screen. Unlike a lot of musicals, the singing and dancing blend right into the plot and show us what the characters are thinking.
On one level the story is a cynical, satirical look at the criminal justice system. On another level it is fun. Go see it.

The Lord of the Rings - The Motion Picture Trilogy (Special Extended DVD Edition) - movie DVD cover picture
Peter Jackson's Magnum Opus

When I was a young lad growing up in a poverty stricken suburb of Melbourne Australia, rather than fall prey to the ravages of poverty, I sought escape and solace in books. The first books I read cover to cover were J.R.R Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings trilogy and since that day, and a few thousand books later, I find myself once again lost in Tolkien's magical world of Middle Earth.

I was, at first, somewhat skeptical about the possibility of transferring such an epic work of literature to film but after recently acquiring the LOTR DVD Extended version I must say that if ever a film version of a book can be considered to have done justice to a masterpiece of literature it is Peter Jackson's work on these films. It is truly Jackson's magnum opus.

Not only do the films do justice to Tolkien's books they actually manage to enhance them in a manner that almost appears predetermined or contrived. In just about every other instance where a movie has been based upon a book a travesty of the highest order has occurred. Perhaps with the possible exception of "All Quiet on the Western Front" and even here much detail and essential narration was sacrificed for the obvious time constraints and budgets of film studios. This is certainly not the case in relation to the film version of LOTR.

The many images I imagined or conjured up whilst reading the books as a naive pre-pubescent have been reproduced in an almost uncanny similarity on film. Of course the artistry of Alan Lee in the original books assisted in this process and has had an obvious influence on the film trilogy. No one is infallible of course and there are a few inconsistencies with the movie adaptation vis a vis the books. However, Jackson has more than compensated for these by embellishing such scenes as "The Lighting of the Beacons" which was an almost inconsequential part of the book but is a triumph of cinematic design, editing and musical composition in the film version.

For the younger IT savvy generation who may not have bothered to read the books, I would urge you to do so and then revisit the movies.

The extended DVD version of the LOTR movies are a must as the theatrical version was underdone to say the least. The extended footage serves to round out and deal much more comprehensively with the many characters in the stories and gives the whole trilogy a more balanced feel as well as being more consistent with Tolkien's books.

That such an outstanding adaptation of a literary piece de resistance can be so superbly recreated on film gives me great hope that other literary classics will soon be gracing our DVD players. One can only dare to dream about the film versions of Homer's The Iliad and The Odyssey. Not to mention Livy's The War with Hannibal. Were Peter Jackson to be given carte blanche from the Hollywood film studios and their enormous budgets the ubiquitous and often tedious medium of popular filmmaking would undergo an instant metamorphosis.

As I stated above, one can only dare to dream.

The Matrix~ awesome movie

In a story with a convoluted plot set in the 1990s about machines controlling peoples imaginations so they think they are in the 1990s when they are actually plugged into a huge computer programme running sometime in the 23rd century, a computer hacker called Neo wants to know "what is the matrix ?". Along comes Trinity played by the fit Carrie-Anne Moss to recruit Neo to the crew of the Nebuchadnezzar, a hover craft crewed by a resistance force of humans trying to defeat the control of the machines. Is Neo the One?, the prophesised hero who will take back control from the machines, or is he just another guy ? The first half of the film is all about setting up the sceanario for the second half, Neo taking on the machines. Full of funky views on what is reality and a fairly grim view of the future, the Matrix is a movie about the love that grows between Neo and Trinity while in their struggle with the machines.

Very Good quality DVD of early mysteries!

The Roan Group can always be counted on to bring the best quality DVDs on public domain titles.THE KENNEL MURDER CASE is sharp and clear with great contrast! The mystery is quite intricate and absorbing, I bought this for the next title but ended up thoroughly enjoying this mystery. You will want to see it again and again to find all of the clues.NANCY DREW REPORTER is also sharp and clear, but there are a few scratches in the print used (not bad). Still it is an excellent presenation. The story is a bit juvinile, but then that is what Nancy Drew was aimed at.It is a strange pairing of mysteries.

Fantastic! GREAT Music! Very sensual, sexy, and arousing!!

Volume #1 is one of my all time favorite videos, and I think that it is a real classic. It is exceptional. Volumes 2-4 are good too, but do not stand out like Vol 1. As far as the music goes, the music for Volume 1 is fantastic!!! All original compositions, and I think it adds A LOT to the mood of the women who are dancing to it. Much better than your average disco garbage! Unfortunately, David John's original music is not as good for Volumes 2-3. Why!?!! Volume 1 was so above average! Perhaps he was too rushed after the success of the first. As far as the women go, they are ALL hot! In volume 1 the mood of the women is outstandingly sexy. A little less so in the others. Not your average boring "perfect" type of playboy bunnies. These are what real women being sexy look like!!! Great "one on one" style of video! I have not found much better. I give it a high rating for Volume 1 alone. :-)

Delicious Melodrama!

D.W. Griffith's wonderful historical melodrama can keep viewers on the edge of their seats just as masterfully as it did nearly a century ago. The Gish sisters are spectacular, as are the supporting players, sets and costumes. Too bad the DVD version offers no additional features, but at least the movie itself will provide 2 hours of delicious melodrama.
