Kicks "Beautiful Minds"

Yeah, this movie is the best I've seen in a long time. Harry Potter was good, but LOTR rocked! For someone who hadn't read the books before seeing the movie (where have I been living?!) I thought it ruled. Seen it twice and gonna see it again this weekend. First off, Peter Jackson is brilliant. Mad props to him. No one could have pulled this project off more perfectly. Also, Elijah Wood was fantastic (not just in looks but in acting as well!) Perfect as Frodo. The rest of the cast rocked to. It was good to see John Rhys- Davies in another monster movie (Indiana Jones rocked too). Mckellen, Astin, Morteson, Lee, Tyler, Blanchett, everyone was great. A visually stunning film, its gonna kill at the Oscars. 13 nominations- its just incredible. It is everything that anyone could hope for in a movie. It's groundbreaking. Not as groundbreaking as Star Wars was when it first was released, but its high up there. It was good to see Christopher Lee as Saruman, someone who is also in Star Wars E2- bridging the divide. Anywho, I shouldn't give this film a 5 star rating- it truly deserves a perfect 10- perfectly executed, great acting, amazing effects, beautiful to watch- bottom line- SEE IT! When its released on VHS and DVD go get it! But after myself of course- I'll be the first in line to buy it. LOTR rocks!!!!

One of Arnie's and Cameron's best films!

Meet Arnold Swarzennegar - amazing James Bond type spy who's absolutely clueless as a husband and father. He starts out as impeccable as 007, who he is obviously spoofing, but then loses it and goes crazy when he suspects his wife (Jamie Lee Curtis) is cheating on him.
his best buddy, Tom Arnold from "Roseanne" fame, is the perfect comic foil. It's really Tom that makes this act/adv stand out from the crowd. The dialogue is fast, funny, and Tom takes it to the limit. Also up for a laugh is Bill Paxton, another Cameron regular (Aliens), who plays a seedy used-car salesman posing as a spy in order to seduce women. He really goes all the way, completely unafraid of playing a true idiot!
It's just so great to watch an act/adv with great action that isn't limited to the usual, off-hand quips from stoneyfaced he-men. This movie is one of my favorites because it's a great popcorn movie that delivers on many levels. It's not just an excuse to blow things up and no one takes themselves too seriously. Everyone obviously had a great time making this film and it shows. I hope they make the sequel soon.

This movie is basically a gritty drama about four black teens trying to make it in America.Though the movie is packed with violents and stereotypical cliches' it clearly shows how talented Tupac really was.Not to zero out any of the other actors,I really feel that all these men that played in the movie should be seen more, to be able to shine aside from the likes of Denzel,Gooding Jr. and other overbaring black male actors. If you ever get a chance to see anything by these other actors try:Higher Learning(Omar Epps) Lean on Me("the fat kid-can't remember name)and the charecter who was shot by 2pac is Khalil Khane, and he's just fine,as well as talented!

Moby Dick revisited, by way of Dr. Strangelove

This is quite a movie. It is story of cold war paranoia, and the personal ambition and fanaticism of a modern-day Ahab, without the black humor of Stanley Kubrick's masterpiece. The captain of a U.S. Navy destroyer relentlessly pursues his leviathan, a Soviet submarine, while pushing his own crew beyond human endurance. His fanaticism and rage toward the Soviet sub increases in parallel with the restrictions imposed on him by cautious higher-ranking officers -- the same officers who denied him a promotion into the general ranks. A German former U-boat commander serves as an adviser on the U.S. Navy vessel, but sympathizes with the increasingly desperate men trapped in the submarine below. Compassion for the enemy? The mature ambivalence of an older man, coming to terms with the world war that defined HIS life? Several members of the destroyer's crew, including the medical officer, illustrate the mirroring desperation of the men aboard the U.S.S. Bedford. Portier -- the only civilian present, and less subject to the captain's arbitrary and absolute authority -- serves as the audience's eyes into this little world. This is a dark film; the photography and tension are excellent, reflecting noir influences from 15 years earlier. And the end of the story reflects the growing fear on both sides of the iron curtain after the missiles of October.

One of the greatest SCI-FI series of all time.

TNG was one of the best additions to the Star Trek Universe. Although some of the early episodes lacked the action of TOS, it seemed to pick up mid first season. A must for anyone who has enjoyed this genre.

Sean Astin ROCKS!

This is a terrific movie that I would recommend to anyone, unless you're offended by tons of cursing and graphic violence. Sean Astin does not seem the type to be a bad guy, but he is SO amazing in this movie. I was afraid I wouldn't like this movie, but I watched it because Sean Astin is my favorite actor. And I'm super glad I did! You will not regret watching this movie! :)

JEFF Blitz's astonishing documentary follows eight children in their early teens as they prepare for, and take part in the National Spelling Bee. As they progress from their regional competitions to the televised finals in D.C., they are shown researching and testing themselves, romping through well-thumbed dictionaries and running the spellcheck gauntlet.Had this been the sum of it, this would have made a mildly interesting film about competitive children. But Spellbound explores the family background of each child, stealthily revealing the roots of their obsession. The result is a powerful, moving and often very funny exploration of what it is to be an American.Widely differing in social class, ethnic origin and levels of wealth, the families show support for their children in many different ways. Angela's story is particularly extraordinary. A pale teenage girl with a mouthful of braces and a ready smile, she is the daughter of Mexican illegal immigrants, neither of whom speaks a word of English. Her self-taught English is impeccable and she devises methods of word-association with graphs and maps that would credit an etymology scholar. Watching her pore over her handmade charts while her ranch-hand father rounds up the cows is unbearably moving.Equally touching is the story of Ashley, the oldest daughter of a black single mother living in the projects. With two uncles " incarcerated", Ashley calmly reveals that she prays to God to assist her in overcoming the many obstacles of her underprivileged position. Then there is the hyperactive Harry and the hulking Ted, an isolated giant with a near-genius IQ and serial killer's eyes, who lives in a trailer with his parents and a brother who "loves guns".Blitz chances upon several moments that serious documentary-makers would die for. A sign put up by the community to cheer on their local champion, a young Asian girl, reads "Congradulations Nupur". During the tense finals, the heavily pressurised Neil, a serious East Indian boy whose parents are the nightmare aspect of the American Dream, has to spell "Darjeeling" - a word entirely unknown to him.

Excellent film to watch first, then read the reviews

The biggest problem with reviewing this movie is that it is nearly/entirely impossible to discuss it without giving away the magical turn in the plot. The flip side of this is that nearly any review (including this one) will ruin any surprises that the film holds. Therefore - PLEASE just watch it and don't read too much first. Truly, the beauty of this film is its ability to turn the viewer into a liar. Two contradictory positions seem equally valid, and it is only the last word that leaves the viewer with a sense of which is accurate. If you enjoy a bit of psycho-drama, dark humor, and the inimitable Ms. Tautou, then this is a must-see. Any information past that only does the reader/viewer a disservice.

Watch it first, read the reviews later.
