Kewl

This is abnout a young boy who finds a horible couple who are brother and sister who kidnapped a baby and raised it. The house is almost hollow because someone is living in the walls. The brother ans sister kidnapped a lot of children who are slightly deformed. This is not a good movie for kids under the age of 10 or who aren't very mature. bye. sorry this is so long.

Ya gotta know when to hold 'em....

..know when ta fold 'em, know when to execute a backflip and shoot a guy in the neck in a parking garage! (Apologies to Kenny Rogers)
Outstanding! Unique in its premise, humble with its humour, and ripping with its action, this one stands as one of Fat's more bizarre (read: good action sans Woo) films. You know the story from reading the other bits here, but just in case you need further proof, I had to throw in my two cents.
Plus, this film also features (God, why can't I remember his name?!)as the arse-kickin' Mr Dragon. Well worth seeing just to see him take out a gang of would-be assailants in a passenger train!
Buy it! Learn how to yell "Chocolate" in Cantonese! See two-fisted action in gambling parlors! I've run out of exclamation points!

Better than expected.

I will have to completely agree with the review from "father of a two year old from Atlanta Georgia". This is an excellent movie,I enjoyed this one far better than Prince of Egypt, my children (ages eleven and twelve) have claimed this to be one of their favorites. There are many lessons to be learned from this story about pride, jealousy, division, and restoration just to name a few, but the most important thing is that it reminds us that only God can complete and restore the mistakes we have made in life.

FABULOUS FILM NOIR

This is the kind of movie i didn't expect to find on DVD and very happy i did.If there is a word for Technicolor ladies Rhonda Fleming and Arlene Dahl are it.The plot is okay and the acting pretty good especially by Arlene Dahl. This is a film noir but works fine in color.I hope more movies with these gorgeous actresses are released on DVD.I didnt know VCI and was a littlesceptical to buy this at first but it looks great and is anamorphic when some much better known and more recent movies aren't.

A great movie. A classic for anyone who is a true romantic at heart. Don't think of it as a glorification of prostitution, think of it as a modern rags to riches story. Julia goes from bottom of the barrel to top of the world in this good for your soul classic

This is how lovers ought to feel

I love "An Affair to Remember" for many reasons. Most of all, I rate it right after "Casablanca" on my list of favorite films because it too deals honestly and in a heart-felt way about people and what they often feel for each other: simple yet passionate love. Nicky Ferrante and Terry McKay cannot really live without each other---now, that's how people who say that they're in love ought to feel, not in the mediocre or middling manner that one often sees in couples in the present. And Cary Grant, he's definitely "da man"---all we fellas out here can only hope to be so gracious, cool, and yet humbly self-aware as this guy. I have always watched Cary Grant for clues about personal deportment, appearance and dress, and how to treat those with whom I cross paths. Not that Deborah Kerr is a slouch---she is as feminine as I like (i.e., Audrey Hepburn), not to mention lively, lovely, and strong. "An Affair to Remember" has the kind of chemistry that all of our romances should have (if only we guys could all be like Cary Grant, we'd have it made)!

Humanizing Crime

A subversive movie in a conformist decade. Asphalt Jungle stands the conventional business enterprise on its head. Instead of portraying law-abiding people acting cooperatively and intelligently to advance a profit-making venture, John Huston & Co. show professional criminals acting intelligently and cooperatively for ill-gotten gains. Not that this is so unusual. Other gangster films going as far back as Cagney's Public Enemy have made similar points. Jungle, however, goes two steps further. First, unlike other crime films from that era, it thoroughly humanizes the culprits. Each gang member, including double-crosser Louis Calhern, acts on recognizably human motives, and though each has a fatal weakness, all are treated in subtly sympathetic fashion by director-co-writer Huston. The evolving bond between Sterling Hayden's muscle and Sam Jaffe's brain is especially affecting -- ditto, Louis Calhern's genuine regard for both wife and mistress. Moreover, the bank heist develops from a raw criminal undertaking into an model of professional expertise, encouraging viewers at the same time to root for its success. On the other hand, law enforcement is treated in unusually cynical fashion. The one overtly brutal character, Barry Kelley's corrupt cop, is clearly dislikable, while John McIntyre's voice of official rectitude is so harshly self-righteous that viewers are likely repelled. As a result, the respectable overworld becomes not so much an opponent of the underworld as its grim and unfeeling seed bed.

The movie has many fine touches. Except for attorney Calhern's plush surroundings, the sets are appropriately seedy. The cast is outstanding, as Calhern again shows his capacity for tragic dimensions, while Monroe again proves her flair for kittenish seduction, even as Marc Lawrence (Cobby) faces sudden unemployment as a victim of the Hollywood blacklist. Two scenes are especially worth savoring. Seldom has culture clash been more tantalizingly displayed than in Sam Jaffe's ogling of teenage jitterbug Helene Stanley, his old world intellectualism lost amidst the sensual gyrations of her new world exuberance. The fit is perfect, and the impression is that he gladly gives up his freedom for one tawdry glimpse of earthly delight. The final scene is an oddly moving mixture of pathos and misogyny. Across the horsey fields of Kentntucky, the love-lorn Jean Hagen chases after a dying Hayden as he chases after the dreams of his lost youth, oblivious to her emotional train-wreck. Rarely has a movie treated such a vulnerable victim with such casual indifference. In fact, her punishment may be the most painful of all. Everybody, of course, ends up a loser as the production code of the time dictated and Huston agreeably underscores.

This caper film set the style for those to follow, most notably Kubrick's The Killing. Amidst the de-politicized 1950's, this genre comes about as close to a political statement as can be found. Daring people are shown organizing themselves outside the law for collective gain, their emotions and motives thoroughly humanized. And if their goals never get beyond the basely mercenary, they at least establish eye-opening bonds beyond the conventional hypocricy of the day. As a result, their combined skills demonstrate the powerful potential of collective action among ordinary and not so ordinary people, and therein lies the subtle message of a darn good movie.

Reality Check

The first time I saw this video,I had brought it and it colllected some dust from not being opend or viewed yet. The opening credit were hilarious! We next cut to Kelsey Grammar in front of a milary board of some kind. Grammar then recalls the testing the miltary did on the Bradley,a machine that has been tested for over 20 years! Cary Elwes come on to help test the Bradley. Elwes eventually gets a real life testing of the Bradley. This movie is so funny it can be taken as serious action/drama movie , yet it's a comedy too! It's amazing the stuff our government does to waste the taxpayers money! The movie at the end mentions what happened to the real life people the movie showed! Also because of Elwes character in the movie , Gulf War injuries were lesser than our government though! This fact is shown at the end of the movie! This movie is a must for watchdogs of the government or former miltary people! I love it and I never served in the miltary! It 's a great movie with a "Penatagon Wars Kicks Brass " attitude!

On my top 10 list

Went out to get a movie one Friday night and they didn't have my 1st, 2nd, or 3rd choices... so I went into "walk the rows of new releases and look for something interesting" mode.
I rented this movie based on Gene Hackman, Gwyneth Paltro, and Ben Stiller. Even got excited when I realized that they guy that played in the Jackie Chan western was in it. Then saw that Bill Murray and Angelic Huston were also involved and thought this should be great.
Wrong.
Save your money.
I just don't get it.
