Kevin James is the 'King of Hitch'

First off, this movie is just great. My wife and I watched this for the second time last night (first was in the theater) and we had forgotten how great this movie really was. The chemestry between all the charactors is perfect. Will and Kevin have real presence together, but the scene stealer is always Kevin James. He just has a way of making you laugh at EVERYTHING. He's the reason 'King of Queens' is one of my favorite shows (next to 'Yes, Dear') Anyways, 'Hitch' revolves around Alex 'Hitch' Hitchens (Smith) who is a dating consultant for men who want to sweep the woman of their dreams off their feet. His next job is poor Albert (James) who is in love with Alegra Cole, some rich high society sociallite, kinda like a soffisticated Paris Hilton. So he enlists Hitch to help him get the girl. And it works. Now the real story here lies with Hitch falling in love with Sarah (Mendez) who is a gossip collumist who believes that the 'Date Doctor' is just an urban myth. The problem with Hitch is that his own medicine doesn't seem to work on him and he just seems to screw everything up with the girl. The great thing about this movie is that no matter who your watching your going to be laughing. The movie as a whole is just really entertaining and very well put together. Will Smith is always a good actor, very funny and he has that charm that makes you watch him. But, as good as Smith is here he lacks that 'everyman' quality that makes Kevin the highlight of the film. Watch this movie with that special someone, it's the perfect date movie and is a movie you can recommend to pretty much EVERYONE.

It's more than just a story about drugs!!!

Johnny Depp stars in a biopic about George Jung and the rise and fall of one man's life, there is an 85 percent chance if you were doing cocaine in the 70's and early 80's you probably want to thank him because he was the force of your nickel a day drug habit. I have to give credit to Nick Cassavetes the co-writer whose father is the great "John Cassavetes" Nick is on his way with this film who i thouht should have directed this film even though it is solid directing, Nick Cassavetes has a gift for bringing out the humanity in to his characters with relationships the main one that got me was George and his daughter which made the drugs and the money not real, not worth what ever the price was not to have what he lost (his heart) bottom line depp is one of the best actors of all time he has "Buster Keaton's" soul.Blow is not a great film but it is very good and worth watching if your sick of watching cookie cutter films ,watch blow with a open mind.

Still my favorite sci-fi series on television

Okay, yes this series is showing a little age and there were some obvious problems with some of the later episodes. But you know what? So what. I grew up with Battlestar Galactica. Couldn't wait for another episode when I was seven years-old. Collected the models of the Viper and Cylon Raider, and even had a kid in my class who was an extra in "Gun on Ice Planet Zero."

People often forget that this series was done in 1978. You can't compare that to today's television standards. It also had one of the largest budgets for a television program. Were certain special effects shots re-used? Yes. They used what they could.

John Dykstra still did a masterful job with the special effects, showing some incredible space-battles scenes of Vipers engaging Cylon fighters.

Some may also complain that the Vipers always destroyed the Cylon Raiders. Again, think back to television of yesterday when you couldn't be killing people off so easily on television at a time when children watched the show. Obviously, today's Battlestar Galactica doesn't have many of the "issues" that the original show had.

Still, you can't deny the true comradery of Apollo, Starbuck, and Boomer (something that I feel is missing in today's television); the sage-like wisdom of Commander Adama (greatly portrayed by Lorne Greene). Dirk Benedict will forever be remembered as Starbuck, the wise-cracking, womanizing, hotshot pilot who always lightened the mood with a well-placed "frack!" or "felgercarb!" Even though Apollo could get on one's nerves at times with his "boy scout" approach to life, he is still a favorite character whom Richard Hatch made his own.

Favorite episodes for me are: War of the Gods, Hand of God, Lost Planet of the Gods, and Living Legend.

As I kid, I was heart-broken when this show went off the air. But, I was ecstatic when I found out that they were finally releasing all the episodes, UNCUT, on DVD. I'm currently serving as Peace Corps volunteer in Kazakhstan. And one of the DVD series that I requested my family to send over was Battlestar Galactica.

Be sure to listen to the commentary of "Saga of a Star World" by Richard Hatch, Dirk Benedict, and Herbert Jefferson Jr. It's great to hear them reminice and talk about their experiences on Battlestar Galactica. Dirk is hilarious!

Great film but not a comedy

As the Amazon blurb predicted (or reacted?) opinions about this film are polarised. For me it gets the thumbs up although it was not what I had expected from the reviews on the cover: I had expected a comedy but it was anything but. This is a film about big events in a real, ordinary life: bereavement, children growing up and living their own lives, life after retirement. The key to why reactions are polarised is one word in the above: "ordinary". Some people are interested in real people and the real world; others seek distraction in various ways, and one way is through watching films. The seekers of distraction won't like this one. I did.

Boys Don't Cry - movie DVD cover picture

Kimberly Peirce's debut film BOYS DON'T CRY put Hilary Swank on the map with its brilliant and horrifying, heartbreaking and beautiful, romantic and sad story of Brandon Teena, a young man in Nebraska who found the wrong friends, hung out with them long enough, and rubbed them the wrong way. His story is so important and beautiful and wonderful that it needs to be taught in classrooms. It may be hard for mainstream America to hear, but it's a heartland story that should be known. Beautiful and sad, Brandon's love for Lana is the purest thing in the world and one moment of this movie is so heartbreakingly forshadowing and so beautifully pure, I wanted to freeze frame and just end on that note. It didn't...but the ending brings hope to a world of muck and filth and maybe, just maybe, that hope is as pure as the duo's love.

Wolf's Rain - Paradise and Poison (Vol 6) - movie DVD cover picture

The wolf fur is definately hitting the fan in Volume 6 of the impressive series Wolf's Rain. Cheza is being held captive along with Hubb by Lady Jaguara, the mysterious noble who enlisted a special military unit to hunt down all wolves, and who is also the ruthless woman who is responsible for the murder of Lord Darcia's true love. She intends to open the gates of Paradise not to wolves, but to the Nobles! Meanwhile, Kiba, Tsume, Toboe, and Hige are trying to figure out a way into Jaguara's heavily guarded keep. The city seems so familiar to Hige, almost as if he has been there before. Quent, the fanatical wolf hunter who believes his family was killed by wolves has also sneaked into the city, and seperately, Blue and Cher as well. As you can tell, all the elements and characters of the past 5 volumes are coming together in a final endgame. Who will win out, the wolves or the Nobles, and just where does the fate of the world fit into all this?

The end of this volume kind of leaves you hanging, but don't worry, there's one more volume left. I think that Wolf's Rain has some of the most elegant animation and storytelling ever put on television. There are just scenes that stick out in your mind, such as a sequence when Blue and Cher are being assaulted by two boy thugs, and there's a close-up shot of Blue's face with her hair blown in the wind, and then the camera backs up and you see she's looking upside down, balancing on a wall before launching herself at her attackers. You really care about all these characters, even though you might not understand every single detail of the plot. All of them, even the evil Jaguara, are searching for happiness. The problem is that sometimes you have to suffer to get to your dreams.

Highly recommended. The only pathetic extra is some variant textless endings. Whippee. Also available in a two-volume manga.

One of the best war movies ever.....

Excellent and believeable. It has received poor reviews by people who do not know the era or the famous Mosquito twin engine bombers. The most thrilling thing is that this is a true story. The Nazi's were working on hard water as part of the process to construct an Atomic Bomb. This is a real life version of Luke destroying the Death Star in Star Wars with one impossible shot. If you like good war movies, with real acting and great flying scenes then "633" is a must. Great musical score and several performances turned in.

Chinese Odyssey Part One: Pandora's Box - movie DVD cover picture
reiterate: it is a cult classic

It is the best of best among Stephen Chow's movies. (Both Part One and Part Two)

It's not only the slapstick style of humor which is sort of typical in his movies, the conversations in the movie are funny and brilliant too.

Again no English subtitle version can do justice to its full wit and flavor, which, I guess, a Chinese version of Woody Allen's movie would be terrible in this respect too.

Like the effect of some childhood rhyme that everyone remembers, to break the ice among a group of Chinese college students, just recite some words from this movie or sing the "Only you" song from it, you can bring the joy that will immediately spread and light up everyone. Guaranteed! It is a cult.

Ultraman Tiga:Starter Set

This isn't really a reveiw, but to let people know what this DVD is and share my exictement about this set. This is the first of a four volume set of the original Japanese version of Ultraman Tiga(with subtitles). This is NOT the 4Kids Ent. FOX BOX version shown last year. This is what Ultraman fans in the U.S. have been waiting for! The "Starter Set" will have the first 13 episodes in a collecters box and a T-shirt! The "prophesy" set will be just the episodes. I hope Ultraman Tiga will set the stage for other Ultraman incarnations, like Ultraman Dyna, Ultraman Gaia, or even the older ones would be welcome! I can't wait...Shoo watt!!
