Keep it Real

This DVD keeps the Pilates method real. And this DVD keeps the method real the way it is supposed to be. The coaching by Bob Liekens is as clear as a high mountain stream, as he helps you understand your movement, and helps you feel what you are supposed to feel in the true tradition of Joseph H. Pilates. If you practice Pilates the right way, the method should be fun AND challenging.
This DVD is the best tribute to Joseph Pilates' original authentic method: it is straight forward, direct, and to the point, like Joseph Pilates' studio and personal approach to teaching. There's no doubt this DVD preserves the rhythm and dynamics of Joe's work; it is pretty fast.
You definitely get a workout with this DVD, yet you should take Pilates lessons regularly to gain a true understanding of the method.
This DVD will last you the rest of your life because, if the Pilates method is practiced in the right tradition (the way this DVD depicts), the Pilates method enhances everything else you do.

Although little in the way of new information or unseen footage is found in this video, I STILL enjoyed it. This was a delightful retrospective and a Magical Mystery Tour back to the Beatle Year, 1964! I especially loved the early footage from the rock clubs in 1962 to the Beatles' arrival in America in 1964. This is just a nice little video that will never fail to entertain and delight. I give it a YEAH, YEAH, YEAH and two thumbs up rating!

Herrmann's score is wonderful!

Why is Amazon placing film reviews here?

Herrmann's score for Truffaut's fine film is brilliant. Lyrical, mysterious, propulsive. Full of pathos, beauty, hope. It is, simply, a wonderful score. On this disc, we are presented with a good represenatation of the score. More would have been better. But what is here is very well conducted by McNeely. Half the disc is the 451 score. The other half, a selection from some less frequently heard Herrmann scores. Think of this disk as a Herrmann sampler. Enjoy!

Darin Live at His Very Best

This is an extraordinary LIVE view of Bobby Darin's musical versatility and showmanship that audio cd and studio recordings barely hint at. Darin, less than a year before his death, live in concert, with more sheer energy than you would expect from a performer half his age without a heart ailment. Energy, style, humor, a voice to make even Sinatra want to run for cover. It's also uninterrupted by commercials. A must for Darin fans.

Spencer Tracy stars in Fritz Lang's first American film

Director Fritz Lang's first American film is the disturbing tale of a good man, played by Spencer Tracy, turned into a haunting figure of vengeance because of the ferocity of mob rule. Joe Wilson (Tracy) is on his way to see Katherine Grant (Sylvia Sydney), the girl he wants to marry. Passing through the small town of Strand, Joe is picked up by the Sheriff (Edward Ellis) and arrested as a suspect in a kidnapping case. It seems his fondness for peanuts proves his downfall. The citizens form a lynch mob and attack the jail. When they discover Joe has been locked away where they cannot get at him, the mob burns down the jail. Katherine arrives in time to see Joe screaming for help from his cell before she faints. However, Joe has escaped but swears his brothers Tom (George Walcott) and Charlie (Frank Albertson) to secrecy, demanding that the mob be tried for his murder. As Joe sees it, the fact he did not really die does not make them any less guilty. Besides, they did kill Rainbow, the mutt that Joe had taken a shine to. The District Attorney (Walter Abel) tries twenty-two citizens of Strand for Joe's death, all of whom protest their innocence and attack the trial for besmirching the good name of their fair town right up until the moment the D.A. runs the newsreel footage of them gleefully committing the crime. Meanwhile, in trying to nail the case shut for the D.A., Joe makes an error that lets Katharine know he is still alive.
Tracy's performance as the tragic figure of Joe Wilson, a good man who did not die in the fire but who surely lost his humanity, anchors this film and balances the grotesque citizens of Strand. What is upsetting is not the fact that the mob tried to kill Joe, but that they insist on their collective innocence and gloat about being able to get away with their crime. The fact Joe was innocent only makes a couple of them feel bad, but only for a moment. Ironically, while watching the film you can get just as caught up in the idea of vengeance as Joe and perhaps the most remarkable thing about the film is that it does come down on the side of law and order rather than revenge. Then again, remember that Lang had just fled Nazi Germany. Lang and Bartlet Cormack wrote the screenplay for this 1936 film, based on a original story by Norman Krasna. "Fury" is a much more brutal film than "The Ox-Bow Incident," the other recognized classic attacking the idea of a lynch mob, and some will find the ending unsatisfying. But overall "Fury" is quite a powerful film.

Brilliant but flawed, still a kubrick movie.

An interesting kubrick war movie! Although I feel the 'Paths of Glory' earlier war classic is better because the theme there is universal this Vietnam movie is a classic and definitely worth having and seeing. The sense one gets is that kubrick is an angry director in this production. Angry at what? The U.S.? War? I cannot really put my finger on it. There is a lot of swearing with the bad taste evident at times. An excellent first half brilliantly thought out. Some brilliant war scenes in the second half probably not found in any other similar movie. There are flaws in the script however especially in the second half. The interviews are out of place. The introspection over the dead or dying again out of place. The Mickey Mouse march at the end makes too obvious a statement. Despite all this I give the movie a five because it is kubrick, because he shot all this in England and because despite the let down kubrick makes you think.

They'll give me a medal !

It's a mystery to me how over the years this work of comic genius has come to lose favor with critics and, seemingly, audiences alike. If you haven't since this movie and maybe have been passing-it-by because of lukewarm reviews, I'll urge you to see for yourself. This is perfection in comic timing. This movie has more gags than Airplane. This is Marilyn's best comic performance. Ewell is the perfect "everyman". There are terrific fantasy sequences and many hysterical character performances. Two of the best are by Oscar Homolka and Robert Strauss.

The talk of this being dated bewilders me. So many things in this story can be related to today(Please God, no remake ! !). Besides timing is ageless and it's timing that keeps this movie fresh. A lot of critics seem to find fault with Wilder having to tone-down the movie versus original play. It seems to me that the "morality play" is better served this way and still I find it exceedingly sensual.

This is an American cinema masterpiece, one of those times when the stars align just so. The perfect cast doing the perfect material(premise and screenplay) under perfect direction. With so much perfection in the principle elements it's easy to over look the other aspects like score, cinematography and so on. They're all perfect. Along with Monty Python's Meaning of Life, South Park, Bigger, Longer, Uncut, The Bank Dick and Ball of Fire, The Seven Year Itch is one of the five funniest movies ever made(English speaking talkie).

Being a the pompous ass I am, I should complain about something so I say what another reviewer already beat me to, they shouldn't have shown the photo in US Photo(I wonder if the censors MADE them put it in?) and the last line. Picayune gripes.

If it looks like old hat, that's because all to the tiniest part of this cornucopia has been done to death. See why.

Bring it back, Please!

This showed them in the top of their career, and the end of it. Their stage performance was so amazing and Axl sang each song with such spirit. They definitly need to bring the act back; because music is dying with a bunch of pop acts who 'just don't have it.'GNR Rules.
