Keep 'em coming Leslie!

I just have to ask myself what planet I've been living on all these years Leslie has been cranking out her walk aerobic workouts because I never knew such a great fitness program existed - until this year. In January, I purchased several of Leslie's "Walk Away The Pounds" DVDs in an effort to do something about the extra weight I'd been complacent about losing. I didn't want to fail with programs that were too intense or demanding and walk aerobics sounded like someting I could do. Smartest choice I could have made.
I think what is so satisfying about WATP is that it really is doable for anyone at any fitness level. Leslie encourages you all along the way and provides modifications to all the movements for those who don't have full range of motion or whose muscles may not be up to strenuous activity.
Because the motions and steps are easy to perform, bystanders may get the impression that these programs can't possibly deliver a good cardio workout - but nothing could be further than the truth! The cumulative affect of all those knee lifts, kicks and side steps not only gets your heart pumping but within only a few weeks you will see visible slimming and toning of your body. I've only been doing the workouts since the middle of January, and already I am very encouraged with the results.
All of Leslie's workouts are fun, challenging and addictive. I am currently doing this WATP Express 4-mile workout followed by the WATP 3-mile with weights on a daily basis - and I'm just a beginner! If you can move, you can enjoy these workout and reap the benefits of a healthier happier life and a cute new shape.
PS: Leslie, I may not know you in person, but you are my new best friend! Thanks for changing my life!

Lost Universe!

Lost Universe, a Slayers spin off, is incredibubly funny! The Characters are very funny and well developed right from the start. Between Kane talking about his grandmother and Winign about his cape getting dirty, Milly talking about being the "Best In The Universe" and Cannal wining that she's letting idiots run her (She's actual a holographic projection of a human form of the ship, Swordbreaker's computer) you'll be rolling on the floor laughing so heard it will hurt.
Many of the voices in the Japanese version are the same as those from Slayers including the all-famous Midorikawa Hikaru! The music is also great from this seriese and it's opening theme, Infinity, is great to listen to even it you don't know Japanese.
This is a great Anime, well dubbed int eh English version. the only problem might be if you don't like Animes that have the character's mouths move to the side of their face when they're facing certain ways. If you can get past this though I't very entertaining!

Brilliant documentary!!!

I have read all the books of Joseph Campbell, and none of them match the interview made by Bill Moyers with Joseph Campbell. Seeing Joseph answering questions of the human imagination, made me realize that he's a better speaker than writer. It made me see the real man behind extraordinary books. If you are after a visual explanation of what a Myth might be, then this 6 tape documentary is a must for your collection.

Tour de Force

My absolute favorite film of 1999 and one of the best ever. Unlike many of the more "profound" films out there, this movie does not condescend to you with obscure, "too-cool-for-thou" plots or epithets. Instead, the relatable, ironic, and funny plot unfolds with the flawless performances of Kevin Spacey, Annette Bening, and most notably (in my opinion) a white-hot newcomer Wes Bentley who gives a mind-blowing performance as the "hero" of Kevin Spacey. This movie says everything you have ever thought about but never ventured to say aloud, eloquently and beautifully. I recommend it wholeheartedly and would be disagreeably surprised if any other film won the Oscar for Best Picture.

Original and deeply moving

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is one of the weirdest movies that I've ever seen. It's also one of the most moving. The basic plot of the movie is this: A shy Joel (Carrey) meets the outgoing Clementine (Winslet), and the two fall in love. After a horrible fight/break up, Clementine undergoes a procedure that erases Joel from her memory. In the heat of anger, Joel himself signs up for a similar procedure. However, mid-way through the erasure, he changes his mind. The viewer is granted an opportunity to inhabit Joel's mind as he tries to hold on to the final shreds of his love with Clementine.

The movie interestingly explores themes relating to love. When you really love someone, and the realtionship ends badly, you ARE tempted to wish the whole mess had never happened. This movie shows us what a tragedy it would be if our wishes were granted.

I thought Jim Carrey did a fabulous job in this film; I don't think I've seen him turn in such a layered performance in anything else he's ever done. It's just such an original concept - the thought that you could erase people, places, things, from your memory. But if you erase things that bring you pain, you also erase some of the joy out of your life. And you erase part of who you are. If you erase your mistakes, you don't learn from them. And you don't grow stronger because of them.

Should be on a Top-100 List to see

I was stunned by Simple Men: simply one of my top ten favorite movies. The last scene ranks up there with Sean Penn's Indian Runner, the Cohen Brother's Miller's Crossing, and, of course, La Femme Nikita. There ARE contemporary films that transcend the genre--like those I've just listed, and including Fresh, The Last Emporer, and Raise the Red Lantern. Simple Men is among the top.

Frankenstein - movie DVD cover picture
still amazing

I was incredibly dubious when I decided to watch this movie. I had heard rumors of cheesy acting, stupid looking monster and such. Boy, were they wrong. This movie blew me away.
Colin Clive is terrific. He paints a terrifying picture of his character. Frankenstein understands too late what it means to be like God. God has quite the job description and no mere mortal can hold it together for long. When is a creation not a creation any more? When it lives. Now it would be murder to kill it (him). That is only one of the many moral issues brought up in this movie. ....
This really doesn't resemble Shelley's work at all but that's OK since the movie is so good. It was especially ground breaking in it's day and is still amazing. Dark and frightening describe this movie.
The sidekick (Fritz, not Igor!) is also well portrayed. And of course no one can forget Karloff's performance. The best moment in the whole movie would have to be when Frankenstein and his creation lock eyes through the spinning wheel in the windmill. Powerful moment. In short watch it.

Harrison Ford at His Best

Harrison Ford is better known for his roles as Han Solo or Indiana Jones, but he does an excellent job as Dr. Richard Kimble in this exciting movie based on the 1960s television series by the same name. Richard returns home from a fund-raiser to find that his wife has been brutally murdered, and a man is still in his house. Richard, who soon discovers that the assailant has a mechanical arm, struggle, but the man escapes. Meanwhile, as she lay dying, Helen Kimble (Sela Ward) makes a 911 phone call that appears to implicate Richard.

Richard is tried and convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to death by lethal injection. Richard is to be transferred to a maximum security prison along with three other inmates. Once on the prison bus, one inmate fakes a seizure and stabs a security guard. Another guard begins randomly firing a shotgun and hits the bus driver by mistake. The bus careens off the road, falls down a hill, and comes to rest on a set of railroad tracks. Battered and shaken, Richard tries to free the wounded guard, but an ominous noise makes him stop; a train is approaching!!

The next scenes are some of the best movie footage I've seen as Richard barely escapes before the train slams into the bus. The engine comes uncoupled from the train and hurtles out of control, while Richard can barely move in his leg shakles. He manages to get out of the way as the train flys past.

U.S. Marshall Sam Gerard, played superbly by Tommy Lee Jones, soon has his men hunting for Richard. aided by his sidekick Cosmo Renfro (Joe Pantoliano), Sam is determined to find Richard and bring him to justice.

Richard eludes the Marshalls for the time being, but Sam soon catches up to him on a dam of all places. Cornered, Richard does the only thing he can think of; he jumps. Dumbfounded, Sam can only watch as Richard plummets over the side of the dam. Sam doesn't believe that Richard died during the fall, so he sets out on his chase again.

This is one of the best action/thrillers that I've seen. Tommy Lee Jones and Harrison Ford give Oscar-caliber performances, and the supporting cast of Sela Ward, Joe Pantoliano, and Jereen Krabbe turn in fine performances as well. The special effects, including the eye-popping train scene and Ford's plunge from the dam are excellent as well.

I highly recommend this film. The acting is first rate, and the twists and turns will keep you guessing throughout. Watch and see Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones at their absolute best.
