Just Want To Go Home.

Set in the early days of WWII in the Pacific, the film follows a unit of Marines as they battle everything from disease and treacherous terrain to just being tired of not being at home. The Marines go from one battle to another, fighting to stay alive and keep there hopes up. There is a rogue Sgt. (Lloyd Nolan), a simple cab driver from Brooklyn (William Bendix), and a troubled Marine (Anthony Quinn)! With well done battle's and a outstanding script, this film is considered to be one of the best films done during WWII! If you can put aside that it was made in 1943, and it is not as realistic as it would be today. It is sure to get the message across and deliver the goods. One of the best war films of all time!Grade:A

Star Wars - Episode I, The Phantom Menace (Widescreen Edition) - movie DVD cover picture

I have been a fan of star wars since I was young and I have seen every movie at least 100 times, and I've read some where in the neighborhood of 30 star wars books and I believe, except for a few flaws that this movie stays true the star wars universe.

One of the best animated films EVER

Very inventive, hilarious (albeit sometimes quite gross) and extremely clever. A shame it was marketed so poorly, where are the toys?
BUY IT if you love animation. If you don't love animation, there is always Monsters INC.

Refreshing to watch a movie with such emotion and honesty

The little boy will steal your heart in bantering with and outwitting the old man. The young lover will break your heart. You'll laugh out loud at the priest ringing his bell to censor the "kissing parts" and the fervant Italian responses of the audience. You'll weep for the grown up who now understands all the life lessons the old man tried to teach him. I loved this movie beyond words! Buy it!

Hard Core Comedy! #3 Cult film!

So how do I review a movie that everyone has seen??? After all, this film is third to "Rock Horror" and "Buckaroo Banzai" in the cult film count-down.
This film is a parody of medieval fairy tales/romances much like "Shrek" or "Don Quixote." We all grew up on these stories so we understand the playfulness, the jokes, and the mock of conventions. Rob Reiner is a master in translation Goldman's book to the screen. It is not a perfect transliteration, but a transposition to the idiosyncracies of film. I have read the book and was not disturbed in any way--Reiner got the spirit of the book right!
This is a hard-core film popular among the college crowd. So that tells you something about the appeal of this film. A fun film, with only two objectionable words it, which, by the way, is fewer than the four found in "Star Wars: Episode IV A NEW HOPE." You can use the mute. Plus some children might be disturbed by the blood in the sword
This film has great one-liners, and is perfect for quoting:
"You say it's impossible because no one has done it before.""Life is pain. Anyone who says differently is selling something..""Mawage."&quo t;You fell victim to one of the classic blunders. The most famous is never get involved in a land war in Asia [!]; and only slightly less well known is this: Never go in against a Sicilian, whendeath is on the line!""Anyone want a peanut?""Inconceivable."
As a comedy, I won't spoil any of the jokes, but as a testimonial, I have enjoyed the movie many times over and it still has not lost its luster. And that is the mark of a good film!

Fabulous Film

After moving away from home, I found myself without a job. With the last few dollars I had, I went to the dollar theater. "Harold and Maude" was playing. I had heard it was good. After that first scene, I stopped worrying about my sorry situation and realized life was much bigger than I had allowed. That is why this has forever been my favorite movie. Now, does anyone know where I can pick up te soundtrack???

who knew joan chen was a director?

What an excellent piece of work to make your first directorial effort. This movie really hit home for me because many of my relatives were "sent down" during the Cultural Revolution and I've asked them many times what it was like and I couldn't imagine myself leaving everything I know and going to the Chinese countryside for god knows how long. The one answer I didn't get was why Mao Zedong thought this was a good idea. Although there are countless good things I can say about this movie, the things that stick in my mind the most are the grotesque sex (for lack of a better word) scenes. They just made me sick. I literally felt like throwing up. I'm surprised I haven't had nightmares. In response to the person who said s/he didn't understand why this movie got an R rating, I totally understand! If I had seen it a few years ago, I would have been scarred for life and I would never want to have sex, ever.

The best TV series ever

The Rockford Files in my opinion was the best TV series ever, and without a doubt was definitely the best TV detective series. From his trailer office to his home made business card printer, Rockford was truly unconventional. That is what set him apart from his other 70's detective peers. The best part about Rockford was that he was human. He was frequently wrong in his assumptions, he got beat up a lot, and unlike other macho types, he didn't always get "the girl." Angel played by Stuart Margolin added hilarity to the show, and Rockford's dad, played by Noah Beery, gave it a nice family feeling as well. Overall, this was simply an outstanding show, and compared to some of the shows from the 1970's that are already out on DVD, it really makes no sense that this show is not yet out on DVD, and I look forward to the day when The Rockford Files is finally out in DVD format in all 6 of its wonderful seasons.

Hey, myself? Right here in front of everybody?

Home Movies is a gem that has been kicked down the block so many times it simply gains more character and value with each booting.
Originally aired on UPN it lasted all of six episodes. Way to go, UPN.
This is one of the few animated shows that somehow missed mass appeal for Comedy Central's animation block years ago.
Bob & Margaret and several other feeble shows kept Dr. Katz at bay and Home Movies didn't make the cut (thank you Comedy Central Network Programmers for putting such garbage on the air so I can get back to my life and turn off the TV...on occasion).
Luckily, HM found a home on the Cartoon Network next to Futurama reruns. The episodes were continued in Flash rather than the Dr. Katz trademark Squigglevision.
For some reason, Home Movies was banished to once a week Sunday viewings on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim. Possibly due to the DVD release. Why let them see it for free if they can pay?
From 'Get Away from My Mom' (episode 101) to 'Focus Grill' (episode 413) Home Movies is a 22 minute therapy session without having to pay for the whole hour.
Who didn't love that analogy?
The extras on the DVD are worth the retail cost even without the episodes.
