The Crow - Salvation (Dimension Collector's Series) - movie DVD cover picture
The Best Of The Crow Sequels

"The Crow: Salvation", the third film in the successful Crow franchise, was pretty much doomed to Direct-to-DVD damnation by the studio that produced it. Instead of marketing the film properly with commercials and trailers trying to hype the movie as a different type of Crow movie to bring in new viewers and fans of the franchise, the movie was screen tested in one city with little, to no advertising. So it was no surprise that this movie went all the way to DVD, bypassing theaters completely. Although in the studio's defense, there were plenty of fans and critics that hated the second installment "The Crow: City of Angels", so I can see why they were uneasy about another big screen release of the dark hero, but this was a totally different story and genre presented in the familiar Crow package. That is, it centered on a character that had died wrongfully and returns to life for revenge; however, the difference this time is that instead of the flashbacks presenting the audience with the knowledge of who exactly was involved in the crime, we are instead presented with only part of the puzzle and are left to discover the entire truth along with the hero.

The story for "The Crow: Salvation" is this, Alex Corvis (played by newcomer Eric Mabius) is wrongfully executed for the murder of his girlfriend (Jodi Lyn O'Keefe). Condemned by his girlfriend's father and sister (Kirsten Dunst), and crooked cops trying to cover up the fact that they are responsible for the death of Eric's girlfriend, Eric is sentenced to death. Eric isn't helped by the fact that no one believes that there was a man with scars on his arm that placed the murder weapon in his vehicle. Now, Eric returns to life seeking vengeance on those that wronged him, to discover who the man with the scars truly is, and to prove to his girlfriend's family that he is innocent.

The twists in this film are truly well done, and the mystery surrounding the man with the scars is executed wonderfully, and not everyone is what they seem except for Eric and the sister of his dead girlfriend. Another unique change to this Crow is that instead of face paint being used to create the look of the Crow, his scars form the familiar Crow appearance. Wonderfully crafted film, with very realistic characters, and an intriguing murder mystery mixed with the familiar Crow elements, makes for another great installment in this engaging film franchise.

"The Crow: Salvation" is rated R for violence, language, and sexuality/nudity.

Todd McFarlane's Spawn - The Ultimate Collection (Animated Series) - movie DVD cover picture
The best animated series adapted from a comic book PERIOD!

Not since the Batman Animated Series has an animated series as good as, or better than, the comic its adapted from been this good until now. Yes, we all know the live action movie was horrible, but the animated Spawn saga is a different story. We all know the storyline by now, so I will say this, Keith David is absolutely haunting as the voice of Spawn, and there are guest voices that pop up on different segments like Eric Roberts and Jennifer Jason Leigh. The animation itself is top notch above anything else seen of recent memory, and the characters are portrayed better here than in the movie. The movie's main problem was it didn't have that internal conflict Spawn went through that the comic portrayed, but its here in all its glory. If you are a Spawn fanatic by any means, snatch this up immediately.

Tron - movie DVD cover picture

If I could choose one word to describe "Tron", I would have to say "awesome". This movie has it all: exceptional special effects (particularly for its time), an excellent musical score by composer Wendy Carlos and 2 very cool songs by Journey ("Only Solutions" & "1990's Theme"), above average acting by a very likeable cast including Jeff Bridges, Bruce Boxleitner & David Warner, as well as a very well-written & interesting storyline.
If you're a fan of the old Atari video games from the late '70s and early '80s, as I am, you're in for a real treat. You'll feel as though you're actually living inside one of those old games as you follow Tron, Flynn & and the rest of their "computerized" companions on their mission to overthrow the evil leader, Sark, and the power-hungry Master Control Program.
Again, I must say that this truly is one of the best films I've ever seen. As far as sci-fi/fantasy films go, I'd have to rank this one right up there with "Star Wars" and any other fine film of the genre.
As with any fine wine, "Tron" is one of those increasingly rare films that only improves with age. If you haven't seen this one yet, make it a point to do so in the near future. You really are missing out if you don't. I'd also like to recommend that you see "The Black Hole" (1979) & "Condorman" (1981), also great sci-fi/fantasy films made by Disney. And don't forget Disney's epic fantasy adventure "20,000 Leagues Under the sea" (1954).
As for the long term fans of "Tron", it might interest you to know that a sequel is currently in the pre-planning stages, with Steven Lisberger to again write and direct. If anybody has any up-to-date info on the subject of the sequel, please e-mail me (my address is listed here). Thanks.

Please remaster the music and release the film on DVD!!!

To the recording and retail/distribution industry, an open letter: Please remaster the music and release the original film on DVD!!! Also, as bonus add more footage of all the concerts that were shot. If the record companies do this, we will buy! Also, please have Eddie Kramer remaster the music and release it on at least 180 gram vinyl as well as on CD and SACD, DVDA etc. Do it all, there is no fiscally irresponsible reason not to do so! Sadly, George is now gone and this film is a treasure for us all to enjoy.

Star Wars - Episode II, Attack of the Clones (Full Screen Edition) - movie DVD cover picture
Star Wars: Attack of the Clones

After the somewhat dissapointing The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones is a much more exciting instalment in the STAR WARS saga. Set about 10 years after the events in TPM, Attack of the Clones is a more action-orientated entry, with incredible battle set pieces. Hayden Christensen is Anakin Skywalker, the troubled Padawan to Ewan McGregor's Obi Wan Kenobi. McGregor's performance as the great Jedi is much improved, and Christensen's journey from envious apprentice to the echoes of the future Darth Vader is impressive, creating more believable characters. And thankfully, Jar Jar is a much more subdued character than in Menace (phew!).
Boasting a strong supporting cast including Christopher Lee (Count Dooku), Ian McDiarmid as Supreme Chancellor Palpatine and Temuera Morrison as Jango Fett, the action, this time around is bolstered by strong presences. And even if Lee is simply reprising his role as the dark Saruman the White from Lord of the Rings, he's a great character, helped with a surprisingly good quality script. In addition, Morrison makes a good impact as the father of Boba Fett.
Moving away from the plodding politics of the first film, events in this one are all about action, with lightsaber fights aplenty. Stunning combinations of CGI and live action at once make for some incredible action scenes. The romantic sub-plot involving Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman is sometimes stilted, but the main plot line makes for a truly incredible action-fest.
John William's score is brilliant, echoing his works for Superman, Hook and Jurassic Park. The CG in this film is even better, and the astonishing cities and vistas are fully realised with some incredible FX creations. Lucas' vision of the many planets and cities are explored extensively, in particular in one scene, where we are greeted with a neon light- drenched metropolis not unlike the Rouge City in Spielberg's A.I Artificial Intelligence. Indeed, many influences have found their way into the film, including an amazing battle arena sequence reminiscent of Gladiator, albeit with lightsabers, echoes of Lord of the Rings and The Matrix-fuelled battle scenes. The action, characters, creatures and FX all combine to create an involving experience that will leave you breathless. Star Wars fans will not be disappointed. The DVD extras are even more impressive than the special features on the Ep.1 Disc, with a terrific Commentary, "Making Of"s, deleted scenes, trailers, T.V spots and tons of production info. This is must-have material.

Seeing more

For either the fact that local stations have to cut episodes down for time or there are deleted scenes on the DVD episodes. I love watching episodes I have seen again and again and finding scenes I had never seen before. They most of the time are very funny but can give away a suprise joke. The only complaint I have about these DVD's is that there is no strait episode play though but still they are great to have in pristine condition. They will last a lot longer than my tapes.

A Masterwork!

The Untouchables is a complete masterpiece. It is beautifully acted, photographed, written and directed. This is the kind of movie that benefits the most from the widescreen format. I am very happy that widescreen editions are more available that they used to be. Watch this film in its original form. It is stunning.

Fight Club (Single Disc Edition) - movie DVD cover picture
I Am Jack's Review

Brad Pitt and Edward Norton star in this modern age morbid tale of discontent directed by David Fincher. "Fight Club" is an orginization that collects all the anger and discontentment of society into one large street fighting gang. Pitt (Tyler Durgin) is a sleezy projectionist/waiter that entrances Norton who is a low scale desk jockey working for some car company into joining his masquerade in the streets. The two become enthralled by their creation and soon fight club becomes a weekly ritual, and then, a daily one. Fight clubs begin to spring up across the country, and soon Durgin is a celebrity within the underworld. An uncanny relationship with a doped up drug adict teen aged girl tear the bonds between Norton in Pitt. The movie ends in a strange, apocalyptic and not very satisfying manner.
