Just Brilliant!

Peter Davison forever cements his place in the Doctor Who Canon. A brilliantly written story, with above the norm production values (for Who, its strength always being its heart, the story), this is a vastly significant testimony to why Doctor Who endures. The performances are extraordinary. This is prime Doctor Who, and a must have for all true fans.

A Once in a Lifetime Action Film

Many movies deal with the immoral world we are living in, and the importance of values such as love, loyalty and friendship in such a world. Ninja Scroll is one of those films. However, despite the fact it is but one of a long line of films, it is extremely unique.
For a start, numerous scenes of blood and gore, and other scenes of extreme sexual nature, serve to differentiate this film from the films we usually watch. Then there are the awe inspiring animation that totally annihilates Disney, and the DVD's technical prowess that helps with a fine picture quality and aggressive 5.1 sound.
But overall what distinguishes this film more than others is the fact it is totally different than western films. The cultural difference is expressed in the plot, in character development, and in the general way the film progresses.
The bottom line is that Ninja Scroll is a uniquely interesting action film, the kind you never saw before.

Historically inaccurate, but still very good, great extras

The movie itself rates 4 to 4-1/2 stars. The extras push it over 5 stars. It has some of the best extras of any DVD I have seen.

This is a very good biography. It takes Howard Hughes from 1933 (when he was making his first movie) to 1947 (when he became a billionaire aviation tycoon).

The movie is called the "The Aviator" and it focuses on Hughes growth in the aviation industry. Besides his obsessive compulsive disorder, most other incidences in his life are dealt with in a superficial manner.

It is a shame that that the movie doesn't explore other aspects on Hughes's very rich life. But then, the movie would have been 8 hours, instead of 3. But, I still would have liked to have seen more on Hughes's Hollywood side.

The style of the movie is very much like Citizen Kane (voted the best movie of all time). Both handle the life of a troubled, but brilliant billioniare. Just like Citizen Kane, the Aviator shows incidences in childhood that shaped the adult. I think that some of the scenes in this movie look like they were copied right out of Citizen Kane.

This movie is historically inaccurate, and the timelines are off. In some incidences, the timelines are off by decades. The events were moved around for dramatic effect.

It is interesting that the bonus features in this DVD set highlight the historic inaccuracies of the movie. There are very good extras. There is are two biographies, a "making of" feature, and discusssions on Hughes's obsessive compulsion disorder. They are all great.

I rarely give 5 stars, but this is one CD set that deserves it. I usually own rent DVD's but I wouldn't want to see them more than once. This is one that is worth owning.

Family Favorite

Milo and Otis is an enduring favorite in my family. I still love it and sometimes watch it even when none of the children are around. Last month I introduced Milo and Otis to my 2-year old nephew, and he absolutely loved it. Forget cartoons, forget Disney, all he wants to watch is "the cat and the dog movie", as he calls it.

Potty Time

My son absolutely loves these them all! He's 21 months and has been watching them since he was a yr old. He sings the songs in the car with us and remembers the names of some of the characters. The videos are very educational and very entertaining. I have sat down with my son to watch them and I'll find him laughing as well as myself. A++++

Quintessential Fritz ... Absolute Noir

Scarlet Street is better than The Woman in the Window. The nightmare vision is darker, more grotesquely detailed, more mean-spirited. And it doesn't have a compromised ending as does Woman.
Lang focuses his attention on every hideous little detail of quiet desperation that compels the characters to their tragic and inevitable fates. Thus, Robinson, a humble small-time bookkeeper (who paints lurid streetscapes in the kitchen (after he's done the dinner dishes) is trapped in a claustrophobic marriage to a hulking harriden who thinks art is a waste of time and money. He dreams of an escape through his art and the deceptively dishy Bennett. Bennett and her fancy man, Duryea, both scheming sociopaths, have a very different set of dreams. Everyone loses.

Realism, with a splash of finess!

If you are anything like me, you find yourself lying awake in bed pondering where the Cash Money Millionares get the chops that make them such street hits. Well then my friend, look no further than this video. It chronicals the real life escapades of tha Hot Boyz and tha Big Tymers in their pre-rap persuit of wealth through less than legitamate means. Don't misunderstand dear reader, I do not condone such behavior, but I am sheltered in my glass house, far from the mean streets. Infact I don't know how I would survive in tha 'Nolia. And it is that fact more than any other that makes 'Baller Blockin' a tape that you would view many many times. Can you honestly say that you would think of hiding in an ice cream freezer when the cops are after you, simply because you are involved in large narcotics and arms smuggling ring? This is true, gritty, street life punctuated by the all to familiar (to someone from the PJ's at least) image of exlpoding cop cars and thumping beats. If you are like me and don't have the occasion to take a field trip to the ghetto, do the next best thing and buy this tape!

This is where the show really takes off!

A number of good episodes on this set. Water, Water Everywhere involves "The Highhanded Law of 1912" and wells going dry everytime a new well is dug up. You Ought to Be in Pictures has a priceless bit in which the citizens of Hooterville think Jimmy Stewart & Melvin Douglas are coming to town & shooting a movie. The Square Eggs episode is good. Other good ones are the Beverly Hillbillies episode(they do a stage version of the Beverly Hillbillies) & the final episode of the season in which Eleanor the cow swallows Eb's radio as Eb is trying to win a "Guess that song" contest. I can't wait for this set.
