Julia Roberts, Kirsten Dunst--Outstanding Performances

Can two actors command a film? In this creation, Julia Roberts and Kirsten Dunst prove it can be done. Strong will personalities are portrayed by these two wonderfully convincing ladies. From the beginning, we are all introduced to Julia Roberts as Katherine Watson, a woman who plans on challenging the way life is at Wellesley, an all female school. Life is about education, ettiquette, and preparing for marriage. Katherine wants to change their outlook, their frame of minds, and their goals. In her quest in this, she sees that her goals will not be easy to come by.
Then there is Kirsten Dunst as Betty who strongly believes in what she was taught in Wellesley, and overall is set against Katherine Watson. These actors' exchange is convincing and it draws you into their worlds and their two different beliefs in what women should do.
There are other plots that are connected to the other characters, but overall, Julia Roberts and Kirsten Dunst carries the film with superb acting.
The scenes are refreshing, showing campus life set amoung sweeping rivers, rustic landscape, wonderful skies and changing seasons. Even inside the buildings you were captured by the set up and some of the art.
In conclusion, Julia Roberts was excellent, and Kirsten Dunst was amazing. They were very convincing and strong. I really enjoyed it. Maybe, you will, too.
Joy.

Sailor Moon S Kicks S ;)

Season one blew me away....the uncut Japanese version made me respect the series far more than I did when it was shown by DIC. I found Season 3 through a company who sends directly from Malaysia before it was offered on Amazon, and the story line blew me away! It's a far cry from the Americanized version, definitely not a little kids show. The revelations throughout this season are astounding. This season is probably my favorite, along with Season 5, Sailor Stars. If you want the URL to order Sailor Stars, feel free to email me at kevinpeterstewart@hotmail.com. In short, Season 3 should NOT be missed and is definitely worth the cash. Ciao!

Breath Taking Cinamatography & Incredible Story

As the wealthy Verma family in India prepares for the marriage of its daughter, a variety of emotions - some expected, some rather surprising - surface from the whole family. There's the bride herself, Aditi, who feels she must level with her arranged groom-to-be about her affair with a married man. Ria, Aditi's cousin, must face a painful memory caused by an important family member, and a tragedy that may ensue if she does not take action. Lalit, Aditi's father, is forced to choose between tradition and righting a past wrong. Then there is Dubey, the goofy wedding planner who yaks on his cell phone while whimsically ordering his haphazard wedding crew around - all the while falling for the Verma's maid, Alice, in a very sweet subplot.
Many of its audience members - Indian or not - will relate to the craziness that a wedding or family gathering ensues. The dialogue - a mix of English and Indian languages, with occasional subtitles - can be a bit difficult to follow, as are the relationships between characters somewhat confusing at first, but Monsoon Wedding lives up to its recent international appeal.

This the the way barbarian movies should be!

Pounding rock music, slashing swords and bulging muscles. It's corny and fun. This film never takes itself too seriously. It may not be good film making, but it's great entertainment.

Simply Incredible

This was definitely the movie to top all movies. Every dollar it made was earned. This was truly an epic. Most of the critical comments I have read or heard are simply due to the fact that anyone, anything, etc that accomplishes greatness brings out those who would tear them or it down.

Great DVD, better if avail DD, wish tunes wd go away

I'd rented this via Netflix and watched/listened to it with the PCM track a few times. The PCM Stereo is excellent straight, or even via Prologic.
I have two complaints: 1) As good as the sound and story are, I wish I could hear it in 5.1 Dolby Digital (if this trend were to continue I will have get DTS capabilities); 2) I sent the disk back to Netflix after a full week of being unable to get the tunes or images of Hell Freezes Over out of my head. Scary.

Vertigo (Collector's Edition) - movie DVD cover picture
Hitchcock's most humane and compassionate movie

We all know the storyline: boy meets girl, boy loves girl, girl's possessed by the spirit of a dead woman. First thing I noticed was in the credits, the image of the spiral in the woman's eye. The spiral does more than simply suggest the dizziness of the vertigo, it is the foundational image of which the entire picture is based on. Look at the winding staircase of the mission, the twists and turns of the cemetery walk, the spiraling hair in the portrait of Carlotta Valdes (and in imitation of that, Madeline's and Judy's), the spiraling journey of the two cars, the rings on the sequoia tree, and the camera's encircling of Judy during the letter writing scene. All these create and sustain the condition of vertigo which our poor friend Scottie suffers. The opening scene establishes the entire premise of the film, namely the pursuit of an unknown person we never see again. Also note in that scene the flashing green and red lights. These link Madeline and Scottie; the stop/go bipolarity is vertiginous itself. This symbolism is also noted in Madeline's green stole on red walls, Scottie in a green sweater and Madeline in a green robe, and Judy's red hair and green dress. What is even more ironic is that green light in the wonderful world of theatre is used to indicate the presence of ghosts. Vertigo is unsentimental, yet compassionate, a statement of faith in what cannot be-but must be true. (Also look for Hitchcock's trademark cameo appearance as a person carrying a trumpet case boarding a train.)

Frenzy - movie DVD cover picture
An unrealized masterpiece

"Frenzy", made in 1972, marks the 54th and and second to the last film of the great Alfred Hitchcock's career. Made in an era where films were becoming increasingly violent, explicit in voyeuristic camera angles and views, language, and story themes containing sexual innuendo, Frenzy fit in perfectly and had equal or lesser effect to Hitchcock's 1960 masterpiece "Psycho." This film stars a totally unknown British cast with extraordinarily uncanny acting ability. Headed by Jon Finch, "Frenzy" moves at a much quicker pace than other Hitchcock films. I think that it was due to the subject matter and material which the film was based upon. This film features one of Hitchcock's favorite themes which places in innocent man on the run from the law because of someone else's wrongful doings. Earlier Hitchcock films that contain this theme that are highly recommended are, "Saboteur" and "North By Northwest." Jon Finch plays as Richard Blaney who happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and is accused of being the notorious necktie murderer who has been stocking and raping women and leaving their bodies to be discovered in very odd and public places, always out in the open. Finch's costars are Barry Foster, Anna Massey, Alec McCowen, and Vivien Merchant. McCowen and Merchant are fabulous together as a police inspector and his wife in some of Hitchcock's distinctive humor and themes connected to food. McCowen, coming home from a long day at work to the most inedible foods on the face of the earth. Barry Foster also creates some memorable scenes with his brilliant and hardy British acting style. The DVD contains a documentary containing interviews with, Finch, Massey, Foster, and the screenplay writer Anthony Schaffer. Along with the amusing and classic trailer to the film in which Hitchcock is seen floating on the Thames River in London. Hitchcock's best with some more of his technical genius. A real winner!!!

A comprehensive look at Air Power from WW I to present day

The above review by Robert J McNamara sums these programs up well. Other interesting points include: Interviews with Aces like Robin Olds.Air combat footage of W.W.I, Korea and Vietnam in the ULTIMATE DOGFIGHTING DVD that is narrated by Peter Thomas.
Run time is 2 1/2 hrs.

The SUPERIOR AIRPOWER DVD deals with the operations aboard
an aircraft carrier, the development and use of stealth
technology in todays F-117 fighter and B-2 bomber, and the
tactics, aircraft, and weapons used to win the Gulf War.
Many types of aircraft are looked at in these programs.

These programs are well put together and very informative
especially if you want to learn about or have an interest in aviation.
I highly recommend this 2 disc set it is well worth the price!
