Jackie Chan is Awesome

Nope, this is not one of those funny Jackie Chan movies, but the movie has lots of wild non-stop action. You may find yourself gripping the chair, too. It is intense and pretty much on the brutal side. But, boy, Jackie is fantastic. Nothing lighthearted about this movie. Lots of chases, fights, car races and explosions.

Nancy Allen Runs Off with 1983 Classic, 'Strange Invaders'

For so fine an actress as Nancy Allen, not one of her best roles, but just another "twice told tale". Better than the last version of Strange Invaders and protrays better special effects than the orginal film {too many re-makes these days} with more belivable aliens this time. Still, it rates as a fare movie for sci-fi fans that like alien style tales. I added it to my library because I like Nancy Allen movies.

The Best Season of Them All!

The worst of "Buffy" still dwarfs the best that most other series have to offer. This season is dark, erotic, funny, intelligent, and literate. Most series believe that all their viewers want is for characters to stay the same. What Joss Wheadon understands is that between Grade 10 and your mid-twenties you change. You grow, you suffer, you make mistakes with men, women, your career, your family. You sleep with the wrong guy and regret or the right guy and don't realize it. You fall too fast. You make choices that haunt you and as some friends disappear others come closer to you.
This amazing season allowed Buffy's characters to struggle with the self destructive elements that everyone has to go though in the real world, but few tv characters are allowed the luxury of being that human. It's a crime that this show was never lauded with all the Emmys and Golden Globes it deserved. If any one season of television deserved it... this one did.

Great finale

Out of all the people I've talked to, they all agree that this is a great ending to the Jay and Silent Bob series. A shame that it had to come to an end!

Bin Ladin Gets His South Park style

I like the episode where Bin Ladin and Cartman go at it like Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd.Good thing the real Bin Ladin didn't see that. I hope they don't do anything funny about Hurricane Katrina.Too tragic,Don't you think? all those people dying in the convention center[tons of dead bodies, from what I don't know?] The Astrodome and Superdome. Cartmanland is funny too. What I like about the Bin Ladin one is Towlie, Cartman says,Oh no not Towlie. Towlie says,You don't want Towlie around, you wanna get high! Cartman yells NO! We don't wanna get high!

Formulaically masterful

After numerous movies have been described though the viewpoint of a split-personality psychotic murderer, David Koepp appears to have mastered this technique. Koepp, who has himself experimented with thrillers such as "The Trigger Effect" and "Stir of Echoes," bases this film on a very recognizable Stephen King story: a man faced with writer's block, living in a removed location, and suffering from domestic discomfort tumbles into murderous insanity. Unlike "The Shining," however, the work this film is based upon is only a short story, with relatively few details to alone flesh out a feature-lenth movie. Though material is low, this void is filled by much-needed charactization. Here is where the acclaimed acting talent of Johnny Depp becomes indispensible. Without Depp's essential role as Mort Rainey, the picture would be lost.
The trick to successfully describing a split personality, as many remember from such films as "Fight Club" or "Identity," lies in creating two strikingly contrastive characters and placing them in situations where they are always alone or unnoticed, though they might not seem to be. In "Secret Window," there is thankfully no trouble in avoiding such incongruency, since John Shooter only appears around Rainey's secluded cabin. John Turturro does a supurb job as Depp's murderous personality, who's name predictably hides the secret message "shoot her." Bearing all this in mind, however, it is not tension or confusion within the movie which makes it successful - all of these clues are fresh in the minds of thriller fans, whether or not they are transparent in the film. Why "Secret Window" wins out is due to stylistic enjoyability and a feeling of comfortable familiarity with the film before ever seeing it. Now that the precursors have been established, Koepp is able to perfect the niche of simplistic psychological murder thrillers and weave an optimized plot. Instead of feeling concern for the characters, viewers find themselves most worried about symmetry within plot development and thematic cinematography.
All in all a great triumph. Supporting roles should not be overlooked, but credit here goes primarily to Koepp and Depp.

Doctor Who - The Robots of Death - movie DVD cover picture
Thanks to WB for providing the best quality DVD transfer!

I was originally concerned when FOX gave up distribution rights of Dr Who (and other BBC programmes) to WB. However, my fears were unjustified.
Not only are these new DVD transfers crisp and clear, there is no sign whatsoevever of the PAL-to-NTSC translation that you videophiles could readily see in the older VHS releases. Watching "Dr Who" is now effectively a new experience as you've NEVER seen it before quite as crisp and clear as this!
"The Robots of Death" is one of the 4th Doctor's more acclaimed stories - with great plot, acting, and brilliant set design - let alone the wealth of extras, this disc is worth the price. A great choice for initial release in the US, let's hope several more will follow.

Spirited Away is like a cup of tea!

I really enjoyed this movie. I won't go into the story or plot as others here have done it so well.
With the exception of Princess Mononoke this is the best animated movie I've ever seen. Aside from the most beautifully drawn animation and a great imagination, this movie is free of the schmaltz, sentimentality and ram down your throat morality that most US animated movies have. The morality is there in buckets but it's so subtle that it sneaks up on you from behind. There are no good or evil characters in this movie. Most have a good and bad side to them. To me this is a far better way of explaining to kids the real world out there than the black & white mentality that most US movies portray. Most kids' movies I've seen talk down to kids. Miyazaki's movies tell stories that kids understand at their own level, whether they're 10, 15, 25 or 80.
Whilst I'm in total praise of the Japanese movie, the US DVD does have its faults. The American dubbing is truly awful to my English ears and I can only watch it in its Japanese/English subtitled version. They tried far too hard to make it sound 'natural' to American kids but everything about the movie screams 'Japanese' so why bother to go to all that effort! Another minus was that I had two copies of the DVD version seriously skip on two different players.
If I were giving stars for the original Japanese movie, I have to give it 5. The DVD however could have been a lot better. The US dubbed version knocks at least a star off it and two dodgy DVD's out of three isn't good for the physical media.
