It's About Time!

Steven Seagal flicks are among my guilty pleasures. I had not seen this film until the DVD release came out, and was curious about the mixed reviews. After the abysmal 'The Patriot', and the nearly as bad 'Fire Down Below', I was eager for another good butt kicker like 'Above the Law' and 'Out for Justice'. 'Exit Wounds' delivers. As mentioned by others, there are lots (and I mean lots!) of car chases, crashes and gunplay. As well-staged as these are, Seagal's moves are what fans want, and he serves up the goods during several scenes, much more effectively done than the fight scenes in 'The Glimmer Man'.It seems a little amusing to read reviews praising the acting in this film. No one confuses Seagal with Laurence Olivier, but this is not Hamlet. DMX tried to act, and was serviceable. The other actors were okay, but let's face it...all of this is window dressing for Seagal's martial arts anyway. By the way, while Seagal is not as trim as in his early flicks, he looked in far better shape than he was in 'Glimmer Man'.A couple of criticisms: There were several audio drop-outs on my DVD, each for only a second or two, but long enought to miss the dialogue (if that's any real loss). Finally, do yourself a big favor and stop the movie as the end credits begin. There is an atrociously bad, very un-funny ersatz 'talk show' routine featuring Tom Arnold and Anthony Anderson tacked on while the screen credits role. It is incredibly bad.Bottom line: No need to pull out 'Under Seige' for the 9th time; check this one out!

Great Series For The Family to Watch

My purchase of Little House on the Prarie Seasons 1 to 3 on DVD made for great viewing, considering the show is over 30 years old the video transfer was very good on the DVDs. I have really
enjoyed watching how the Ingalls Family lived in Pioneer days with my youger cousins and my own family. I highly recommend these DVDs.

The Knack... and How to Get It - movie DVD cover picture
Experimental, groundbreaking, outrageous

This film, from Richard (A Hard Day's Night) Lester, is a black and white, darkly hilarious comedy about sexuality and relationships in 1960s England. The filmmaking is anarchic and brilliantly edited; it looks modern compared to films of today, even thought its influence is not widely known. Lester is working at the height of his ability here, and "The Knack...and how to get it" stands as his greastest achievement in a long and varied career. It's fun and the performances, though all comically exaggerated, are top-notch.
I bought the video on a whim, and I consider it a great investment in any video collection of experimental, obscure films.

Stunning film.

If you love words, this film is for you. A heart-breakingly honest look at the life of a young man in Washington DC. The film reveals the potential he has and the obstacles he faces as he tries to combat the gangs and stereotypes of black DC with his spontaneous and incredible poetry. Most people should see this film; it's not suitable for younger kids though.

A Classic Thriller.

The Parallax View (1974) came out before Hollywood began to produce slicker, more over-rated political thrillers. In this film, a senator is shot and killed but no one saw the killer. Warren Beatty plays a journalist who goes undercover to find out who killed the senator and a number of other witnesses to the crime. Pakula's directing is excellent with many memorable scenes. This was a different role for Beatty and he does well in a political thriller. The story is interesting and original with a thought provoking ending. This is a must have for any film collector.

I obessed over this movie as a child

As a child I obessed over this film. I remember loving the imagery and everything about the animation of the characters to even the title. I loved every little thing about this movie. Back in my kindergarten days, a cup of apple juice and this movie were all I needed. This is a good kids flick, period. Classic.

Great For Any Basie or Big Band Fan

hi-

this is an edition of the basie band that was stellar for so many reasons-great soloists-Kenny Hing and Eric Dixson on tenors as well as Booty Wood and Dennis Wilson on trombones. A sax section that had been together for 5 years at that point-a great bassist in Cleveland Eaton.

the show has a great segment showing vintage basie from the 30's thru the 80's-as well as a talent line up to go gaga over.

someone had asked for the personnel of this band so here goes:
saxes- bobby platter-lead alto and danny turner
kenny hing and eric dixon tenor saxes
johnny williams baritone
trombones-grover mitchell lead
booty wood
dennis wilson
bill hughes bass trombone
trumpets-willie cook lead
dale carley
sonny cohn
bob summers
rhythm section- basie-piano cleveland eaton bass- gregg fields drums.
a must for any basie fan!!

mark
noticably missing from the line up was freddie green on guitar.

Actors:
Sarah Vaughan
Tony Bennett

DVD? Really!? Wow, people must love this unheard of movie.

So I was reading through the reviews and noticed that almost everyone has stumbled onto this movie by accident. Lol. I remember I saw this on The Movie Channel- I think, on June 16th. The only reason why I remember that date was because that's when Jesse and Celine were suppose to meet in six months...or it was the date they met....whatever the case is, I remember the date because of the friggin movie and this movie is really really good for a romantic comedy. It was well written! This is one of my favorite movies along with Shawshank Redemption, Seven Samurai, and Chasing Amy. It's a shame that this movie never made it big and still remains a sleeper hit. Since I'm suppose to tell how great or sucky this movie is, I'd like to say that you should buy it. I'm waiting for November 6th so I can buy the DVD. If you haven't seen this movie, you must. This is the first Five I've given out of 5 reviews, so I hope that helps someone. If not then.....GO GET THIS MOVIE STILL.
