Stealing Beauty - movie DVD cover picture
Interesting and beautiful film

This film is really quite unique; I must admit that the plot is a little dubious and winding (kind of leaves you wondering "what's the purpose?"). However, after you get into the movie, you're not too concerned with the plot per se. Watching this film is like admiring a painting. It's more about emotion, atmosphere, and most of all, beauty, than it is about a particular story. Like the title suggests, this film is about beauty. Beauty is presented in many forms; it is in the rolling hills of Tuscany, and it is certainly within the sinfully seductive and heavenly Liv Tyler. I believe it was the director's meaning to portray Liv Tyler as "beauty incarnate"; the very essence of feminine perfection. No one could have played this role better than Liv Tyler. She is so breathtakingly beautiful that one feels guilty staring at her so intently. I agree with a previous reviewer that the director attempted to prove that losing one's virginity can be a beautiful thing, and I admire this refreshing point of view.

A historical record of a great band.

There are many appropriate comments and observations in the other reviews listed here. All I will add is that if you ever found yourself defending the authenticity of The Cars , this DVD will prove you correct. I've been a die-hard fan since 1978, and have seen several live concerts, but this offering from Rhino is as up close and personal as it gets.
If you are a Cars fan and have been hedging, plunk down the coin and experience this DVD. Yes, the original media limits the quality of the sound and video, but the performances are a precious bit of rock history. God bless you, Benjamin Orr!

Forever Knight - The Trilogy, Part 1 - movie DVD cover picture
Watch the Knight! & Nat, & Schanke, & LaCroix, & Janette...

Many people have never heard of the TV series Forever Knight, and that's a terrible shame. It is one of the best character-driven shows I've ever seen, ranking right up there with Buffy and the early seasons of X-Files. Everyone I've ever introduced to the series has become a loyal fan--and yet, it's been almost impossible to find it on TV! Between cancellations, network-hopping, and horrible time slots, it's a miracle anyone ever saw enough of it to develop an appreciation for the characters and the writing. Now, with its appearance on DVD, a new cadre of Forever Knight fans can understand the appeal of this quirky vampire-cop series set in Toronto. Are you one of those people who enjoyed the dark conflict/redemption arcs of Angel and Spike in the TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer? Forever Knight has that. Do you like the monster-of-the-week integrated with the ongoing character development of X-Files? Forever Knight has that. Do you like those ubiquitous cop shows wherein the characters struggle with their (metaphoric) inner demons as they try to make the world a safe place for the innocent? Forever Knight has that. Or are you a sucker for tortured, star-crossed romance that can never be? Forever Knight has that, too. What's more, Forever Knight did it first, without a huge budget for special effects, and managed to create a believable world that has endured years after its cancellation in the various fan sites scattered across the Internet. (Keep it up, Knighties and Nat-Packers and Cousins all!) As a teacher, I don't have a lot of money and I don't buy a lot of things on DVD. In fact, my entire collection consists of the Lord of the Rings movies, the Harry Potter movies, Buffy, X-Men, The Muppets Take Manhattan, and Monty Python's Quest for the Holy Grail. I will, however, CHEERFULLY shell out the bucks for all three seasons of Forever Knight. Trust me--it's worth it.

The Twilight Zone - Season 1 (The Definitive Edition) - movie DVD cover picture
The ultimate release's for an ultimate show!

I held off buying the "volume" release's as i could,as well as most, see this ultimate season by season release coming when
the seasonal dvd craze started. Now we have it,the ultimate
release's named the Definitive Edition and thats exactly what
they are.I have watched the "volume" release's borrowing from
friends and family as well as the episodes on tv and they dont
come close to the quality of these sets.If they do release the
rumored "hi def" in the future, you wont need to buy them......
this is it!I cant see how they can improve on this collection.
Most of,if not all the bad reviews here are sour grapes from
fans who bought previous release's and now are angry that they
did! They should sell what they own,try to recoup some of their
money and buy these sets, they are well worth it!They are a bit
high price wise, but the sets are beautifully done in qualtiy,
package, extras, bonus features and menu options. There are many
season release's of other shows that come in cheap packaging,
no extras, time compressed or cut episodes and are on two sided
dvd's that are selling for almost half the price of these TZ's.
You can watch the Twilight Zone shows over and over and never
tire of them!Well worth the investment people, dont hesitate to
buy this collection!

Idle Hands - movie DVD cover picture
Funny, Stupid, Gory and weird

"Idle hands are the Devil's play things."
There you have the basic concept of this film. Well, sort of. The basic idea is that a slacker wakes up one day to discover his hand is possessed and when it is not busy, it is trying to kill everyone around him-including his best friends. He does kill them actually, and they come back as zombies who mock him.
Sound weird? It gets weirder. This movie is more of a horror-spoof than an actual horror film, yet its scary moments are much better done than, say, those of Scream. Then when it turns to comedy and parody it excels! The movie is actually really funny, and it takes itself so lightly, that you get the feeling the cast and characters they play are laughing right along with you.
Idle Hands is a fun film that any horror fan should enjoy. It doesn't do what so many films unfortunately do today-take itself too seriously.

Bewitched - The Complete Second Season (B&W) - movie DVD cover picture
The biggest and most fun season is coming!

Season 2, just like Season 1 will be offered in both black and white and color. (Just a side note, Season 3 was the first season where the series was actually filmed in color, but I expect them to clean up the dust that may have been piling up on the originals for these black and white originals, so lets hope they do some cleanup work). Season 2 contains a whopping 38 episodes in all, one gigantic Season for true fans that want to enjoy some serious bewitching entertainment. Elizabeth Montgomery and Dick York's performances have easily withstood the test of time, as these episodes are as much fun as they were back in the early 60's. Alice Pearce (The best Mrs. Kravitz) and Marion Lorne reprise their roles as the nosy neighbors across the street. Alice Pearce I think sticks around until the end of Season 3. And lookout for Endora and Darrin really battling it out in this grand season with some of the most memorable episodes ever. And don't worry about Dick York (the favorite Darrin of them all)leaving the series anytime soon, will be around for several more DVD packs, specifically Season 5 and then eventually replaced by Dick Sargeant for Season's 6-8.

DVD easter eggs

hey i found some easter eggs on volume one and was wondering if anyone else found different ones other then these :

Camera testing for lighting and coloring.
On disc 1, go to the extras section and press up twice to highlight the chili. Press enter to view 3 minutes of Camera tests for lighting and coloring of the apartment once the show was picked up after the pilot with commentary by i think the show director and maybe the set director i dont know u will just ahve to check.

One on disc 3 of Volume 1, go to Extras, then click on Inside Looks and one of the Chinese crackers becomes active, click on it and you see an Inside look on a discarded episode, "The Bet"

Then on disc 4 of Volume 1, go to Set Up, a stain from George's hospital food is active, click on it and you see a comparison of Seinfeld unrestored and remastered. Haven't found any on disc 2 yet, or any in volume 3.

please tell me if u can find any other ones!

the antidote to vapid romantic comedy

When I 1st rented this, it was due entirely to Janeane Garofalo being in it ( I'd watch her read the paper ) & what seemed like an interesting, off-beat story idea. It is the only movie that has given her enough substance to really sink her teeth into on screen & a pleasant suprise for those who like their entertainment dark & complicated.

The Set-up : An average guy ( Mitch Rouse ) places a personal ad. A gal responds ( Jeanane Garofalo ) & what results is the 'blind date from hell' including a gun, a hostage & a caustic bartender ( Margaret Cho ).

What transpires feels almost like a play, sparse and character driven. There is some comedy ( low key ) and romance ( unexpected ), but what really makes this stand out is some dark, intense, emotional scenes that don't pull their punches & an ending that avoids tidy completion in favor of ambiguous thought provocation.

Kudos to Aleks Horvat who has writing / directing / producing credits - he really went out of his way to create something different without insulting anyone's intelligence, & Jeanene Garofalo, for giving what has to be one of her finest performances.

Worth every penny...

My 6-month baby has been enjoying "Baby Mozart" since she was 4-month old. When I saw this video came out, I figured it should be just as good. Haley laughs and smiles throughout the entire video; she especially likes the scenes with the puppets. The quality of the video is great; the animals footages were excellently done. There were even some clips of really interesting-looking bugs. This video also teaches some words while relating them to real animals. Occassionaly when it's hard to settle Haley down for feeding time, this video (and "Baby Mozart") was able to capture her attention so meal time can be more enjoyable. Highly recommended.
