Intelligent,Smart,But the DVD is kind of confusing.

This is a great film period OK. Christopher Nolan managed to direct and write a vert smart film. The movie is about Leonard Shelby(Guy Pearce,The Count of Monte Cristo) who is looking for the man who raped and murdered his wife and caused him to have short term memory loss.
Joe Pantoliano(The Matrix,Daredevil) plays Teddy, the man who may or may not be helping him.And then we have Natalie(Carrie-Anne Moss,The Matrix Revolutions) another person who may or may not be helping him. Now on the disc there is a cheat code like thing that will play the movie in chronological order, you can find this at After watching the horribly edited chronological version I realized that this movie works better going backwards. Moving from the end to the beggining and so forth. This is truly one of the great films that is already a classic really and probably will become a must for aspiring film makers. The character development moves slowly which makes it work even better and the characters are extremely likeable. Any fan of movies should see this, this is truly a great film. Carrie-Anne Moss, Joe Pantoliano, and Guy Pearce all give spectacular performances.A-.

What CAN be

I've had this movie for a couple of years now and I can still watch it over and over again. The soundtrack is incredible (i've been searching for it and still no luck). It's a delightful story of two teenagers in love. I'm in my twenties and still struggle with my sexuality and society in which I am surrounded by. This little tale is a great coming out movie for teenagers that have to with the cruelty of their peers in high school. I've never had the nerve....It's also a great first date movie. I highly recommend.

Genius Stifled

Orson Welles' 1937 "Julius Caesar" is the longest running Broadway production of the play. Welles played Brutus. In 1938, Welles' On-the-Air Mercury Theatre broadcast "War of the Worlds". It was a hoax. But it caused a nationwide panic. Listeners were convinced that the Earth was being invaded by Mars. RKO Studios signed Welles to direct "Citizen Kane" in 1941. It is regarded by many as the Best Film ever made. Welles had conquered stage, radio, and the cinema. Criterion has just released the flawless, two-disc DVD, "F For Fake", an anamorphic, digitally-restored transfer(1.66:1). Disc One is Welles' 1976 essay/documentary; a non-linear, freeze-frame interview of art forger Elmyr De Hory, culled from 35mm and blown-up 16mm. Elmyr's biographer, Clifford Irving, is later exposed as the fraudulent chronicler of Howard Hughes. "F For Fake" features Joseph Cotten, Laurence Harvey, and Welles' mistress, Oja Kodar. Filmed in France, Rome, and southern California, "F For Fake" includes shots of Howard Hughes' bungalow at the Beverly Hills Hotel. It was the last film Welles ever directed. Extras include a Peter Bogdanovich introduction, a nine-minute trailer(curiously un-restored), and a commentary track. Disc Two contains the elusive 88-minute documentary, "One-Man Band". It has never been available before on film, video, or DVD( I saw it once 2 years ago on late-night cable). The 1995 "One-Man Band" examines Welles' lost/unfinished movies. This treasure trove includes scenes from "The Other Side of the Wind", "The Deep", and, reportedly, his mysterious "Don Quixote(A work in progress, on-and-off, for 15 years)". Welles stares into the camera, pauses, and recites Herman Melville in fragments of his "Moby Dick". He is electrifying. The process is staggering; and finally heart-breaking. So much talent, and finally, a sense of loss. Disc Two has another stunning documentary, an essay, a 60 Minutes excerpt, and a Howard Hughes press conference. Director, actor, writer, painter, magician. Orson Welles was, perhaps, the greatest auteur of the 20th Century. Big words. Big man. Big cigar. Welles once said that we are all really 2 or 3 different people inside. Or none of these at all. Was Orson Welles a fake? Welles' classic 1958 "Touch of Evil" ended in these last lines: Tanya: Isn't somebody gonna come and take him away? Schwartz: Yeah, in just a few minutes. You really liked him, didn't you? Tanya: The cop did..the one who killed him...he loved him. Schwartz: Is that all you have to say for him? Tanya: He was some kind of a man...What does it matter what you say about people?

Take command of a misfortune situation

This was a great movie about being at the wrong place at the wrong time. I'm not saying Tom Selleck's character was unlucky,I'm saying the two cops were stupid when they found out they had the wrong guy. The movie was good because it showed how an innocent man must take command of a situation and solve the problem. I like the performance of Tom Selleck, he really showed that there is justice for ex-con (even though he was innocent to begin with). Buy it, you'll love it.

The Fog of War - Eleven Lessons from the Life of Robert S. McNamara - movie DVD cover picture
McNamara comes clean in `The Fog of War'

Director Errol Morris' latest triumph, "The Fog of War," is a retrospective glance at some of America's toughest times, including World War II, the Cold War and the Vietnam War. These haunting moments are revisited through the view of Robert McNamara, secretary of defense under John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson.

McNamara stares right into the eyes of the viewer as he recounts his past, from his time as an Army Air Force lieutenant colonel to his stint as Ford Motor Company president to his work as defense secretary. We see McNamara as a faultless chap at the University of California at Berkeley in 1937. We discover McNamara's part in the development of seat belts, an invention that would reduce the incalculable number of injuries caused by automobile collisions.

We also learn of a botched firebombing over Japan that resulted in about 100,000 civilian casualties, a raid for which McNamara was partly responsible. Making this scene even more mortifying is McNamara's unflinching expression as he relays the event with hardly a grain of remorse. McNamara speaks of the avoidance of total nuclear war as sheer luck.

"Take it from me, we were literally this close to mutually allied destruction," McNamara barks, as he narrows the gap between his thumb and index finger to nearly a pinch.

During a recorded telephone conversation in 1965 with President Johnson, we hear McNamara's voice wither into nonexistence in protest to the commander-in-chief's vow to escalate the conflict in Vietnam.

In the film, McNamara outlines 11 lessons he has learned during his turbulent life. Below are three that come to mind:

Empathize with your enemy: McNamara said that had the United States attempted to empathize with North Vietnam, the conflict may have subsided with little loss of life. McNamara said that while the United States' purpose in southeast Asia was to prevent the further spread of communism, North Vietnam saw the conflict as a civil war between two radically different governing factions.

Seeing and believing can both be wrong: McNamara places emphasis on the incident at the Gulf of Tonkin. Was there or wasn't there a second attack? Was President Johnson's full-fledged bombing strike premature?

Proportionality should be a guideline in war: It's shocking how many Japanese civilians were killed or wounded during World War II before the United States dropped the atomic bombs.

Overall, the viewer gains a humanistic understanding of McNamara through this film. But even at 85, McNamara still won't elaborate on the more scintillating pieces of information, such as whether he thinks LBJ was mistaken in his efforts to accelerate the "crusade" in Vietnam.

An incredible venture into dancing, acting, and feeling good

Recently became a fan of Adam Garcia after seeing him in Riding in Cars with Boys and Coyote Ugly. So I looked this video up. This is really the best. He's the lead obviously and the viewers get a chance to see him do his thing and dance like crazy. My sons watched it and now they are going to take tap this fall. Something I wanted to do. I thought it was great. The critics probably hated it. They hate his newest release the 1st 20 million is always the easiest, but they shouldn't forget that the writing plays a significant part in the success of the movie. For his part Adam is a total success.

Humane and rational Pilates

I like physical activity, but I never thought Pilates was for me -- a 50-something who prefers free-style dancing to precise exercises. BUT -- I found the teaching on this DVD to be enjoyable, calming, and nurturing. It's just right for those of us who want an effective workout, but aren't exactly the over-achievers of the yoga mat, and need encouragement. You finish the workout feeling physically stronger and emotionally nurtured under the steady, patient and positive teaching of Lynn Robinson.

A Must See Film - Keaton & Nicholson Are A Real Treat!

Boy did I love this film!! I needed a good laugh...and I found myself with a stitch in my side from laughter. I also found a few unexpected tears in my eyes. There are definitely poignant moments here. But then, I happen to be a woman "of a certain age" so perhaps I really related. Diane Keaton, Jack Nicholson, a superb supporting cast and writer-director Nancy Meyers have provided entertainment at its best with "Something's Gotta Give." (I hate the movie's title, though. Surely someone could have come up with something more apt and original).
Harry Sanborn, (Nicholson), a 63 year-old music industry mogul, is a renowned bachelor who prefers his women under 30 and gorgeous. He is allergic to commitment - the word is not even in his vocabulary. Erica Barry is a 50-something divorcee and a super successful playwright. Her daughter, 20-something Marin, (lovely Amanda Peet), brings her latest lover (Sanborn), to their Hamptons summer home for the weekend and - Surprise(!) - finds Mommy home too. The interaction and verbal sparring between the 4, (including Aunt Zoe, played by Frances McDormand as Keaton's feminist sister), is a riot. Unfortunately Harry's hard living catches up with him during this, of all weekends, and he has a heart attack. Keaton saves him with mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. And hunky Dr. Julian Mercer (Keanu Reeves) forces him to remain at the Barry home to recuperate. Then the fun really begins.
The combination of Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson is an absolute joyous one. Two great actors, with plenty of chemistry between them, are at their best - they sizzle! As do Keanu Reeves and Keaton. She gets all the great guys...deservedly so. The script is witty, the dialogue is acerbic...and tender at times. The characters have depth and room to grow - which they certainly do. There may be some weak moments - the ending is slightly schmaltzy, but I loved it anyway and wouldn't have wanted it any other way.
So, if you're in the mood for a good flick that will make you laugh and touch your heart - this is the one. Highly recommended!JANA
