Mandy Moore's proformance in this film was incredible! Her music talent is outstanding & this showed that her acting ability is off the chart. Mandy Moore should be in many more films in the future. If I was a director/producer I would DEMAND that Mandy Moore was in my film!

deeper than on the Surface

I rented Orginial Sin thinking it would be a terrible cheesecake movie, like Madonna's Body of Evidence or Kathleen Turner's Body Heat. But it was actually a very good movie, a modern Hitchcock film almost as good as the Talented Mr. Ripley. Sure, there's sex in it. You see a lot of Angelina Jolie and Antonio Banderas, as well as other people. But there's a story beneath all of it, and it's an intriguing movie even without the sex scenes. Jolie plays Jane Russell, who marries a Cuban coffee plantation owner named Luis Vargas through mail order--except only when they finally meet does he learn that she's beautiful and she learns that he is rich. However, Luis begins to discover that his bride has lied about more than her beauty, though he cannot stop loving her even as she deceives him.
The movie would still be good even without the sex scenes. That's really what amazed me about it. Banderas and Jolie are very good actors, and are very convincing together. The sets and scenery of colonial Cuba are elegantly done, and the music is both accurate and sultry. The film editing is horrible, though--some scenes appear almost intentionally choppy, though I don't know why--and the ending is improbable, though satisfying. But it's really not a bad film overall, which is the biggest shock of all. If you liked The Talented Mr. Ripley, or especially Hitchcock's Notorious, you would enjoy this movie.

Black and White Wins!!!!!!

I am a student in my 14th year at Nagoya International School. To conclude the study of Macbeth, we watched four film versions of the play: Polanski, Royal Shakespeare, English Shakespeare Company, and Kurosawa's Throne of Blood. Of all these Kurosawa's movie, "Throne of Blood" had the most impact. Although the film was in black and white and it didn't send me to sleep but provided me with lots of excitement. This is significant because even in the world filled with color, a boy living in the 21st century still felt excitement while watching a black and white movie. We could feel and see the tragedy that occurred at the castle where Lord Tsuzuki was murdered. Kurosawa used his brilliant camera techniques to show the room smeared with blood. Kurosawa also effectively created an eerie atmosphere as the fog and the mist rolled in and out of the scenes. The story also made a successful transition from Scotland to Feudal Japan and it worked so well that the movie has a place alongside the other version of Macbeth. I fully recommend this movie to anyone who wants to watch Macbeth from another perspective. SUGOI!!

Excellent Sequel to Original Classic

This is a fine follow-up.Some carp about this one. What some people don't understand is that this shows those same lovable characters in a different time(they are older, more tumultous events have transpired in America since 1962 such as assassination of JFK, Vietnam starts for real, psychedelic drugs take off, polarization of American society due to the escalation of Vietnam War, changing styles, values, attitudes, perceptions, etc.), and so naturally the film is not going to be the "same" as the first one.It was a perfect way to capture the transition of the characters to the latter part of the 60s. The soundtrack kicks too! Basically, everyone(except for Dreyfuss) is back for this one including Harrison Ford who is now Officer Bob Falfa. I liked the Vietnam scenes the best with Terry "Toad" Fields and Joe the Pharoh. I don't think there was any other way to pull a believable and successful sequel off than to do it the way Lucas and Co did(you will have to watch it to understand what I mean---be advised this is very different from the first one).Excellent film all the way.

Virgin Suicides is the Best Movie Ever!!!

This movie is a combination of both a documentary and a movie in one. It shows you how it really is when you're spoiled but dont have anything emotionally. People think others have it all but just becausethey have it all doesnt mean they have it all mentally. This movie is great and Josh Hartnett is HOTT!!!

The Manchurian Candidate (Special Edition) - movie DVD cover picture
A Classic Film

Movies date very quickly. After twenty years, the acting, the clothes, the topical references oftern seem hopelessly out of date. The Manchurian Candidate is different. People who have no memory of the Korean War and McCarthyism will find this to be an engrossing film. It makes the fantastic, the bizarre and the grotesque completely plausible. I think that the reason why the film succeeds is that it provides an emotional correlative to the nightmare politics of the Cold War. And for those old enough to remember the Kennedy assassination, the ending will be a real shocker. Was this an example of life imitating art?

The Grand Finale

Before I saw this movie I've heard a lot of good things about it, so I must say that my expectations were high. Usually, when I feel like that the actual thing turns out to be worse than I expected. But ROTK didn't let me down. It was merely awesome! The cast was so well-picked, that there wasn't a slightest doubt in my mind that nobody else could've done a better job. Especially to me stood out Sam and Pippin. Billy Boyd just blew me away with his performance and how he showed the arc that Pipin's character had overgone.Elijah Wood has done his job well also. He managed to capture both the evilness of his ring-possessed self and the pure innocence of his old self. Visually the movie was captivating, the scenery and battles were grand and beautiful. And as bored as I usually get while watching the battle scenes, the ones here had nothing extra that would make, me at least, go to sleep. The plotline was very intruiging, but rather sad at the middle. I cried at least 5 times during the movie, and that tops all other movie I've watched. So, now I can only add, that this is a great movie, definatly one of the best movies made so far!

Saving Private Ryan - movie DVD cover picture
The best war movie ever, if not the best movie ever!

Saving Private Ryan is a tremendous film. I forces the viewer to see World War II as it truely was. The battle sequences is the film are amazing; and the use of hand held, low camera angles make you the viewer feel that you are in the action. The begining D-day sequence was directed and filmed to perfection by Spielberg. However, the ending battle sequence is harder to watch because of what happens to some of the characters that we followed through the film. The story of Private Ryan was done just as well as the battle sequences in the film, questioning what the value of human life is. Private Ryan really makes you see how terrible war, as it is a well constructed anti-war movie. Hanks, Sizemore, Burns, and the rest of the cast give great performances. Private Ryan should have won the Oscar for best picture.

Twin Peaks - The First Season (Special Edition) - movie DVD cover picture

I rushed to buy this four disc set as soon as I saw it online. I was a huge fan of the show and after watching it recently, it has lost none of its magic. This set plays beautifully in Dobly Digital, DTS, and Dolby Surround. It has been completely remastered and looks gorgeous! One conflict to dispel, though. The original pilot episode was never included in any offering of the series. It is a separate show althogether. I don't know if this has to do with licensing or just an attempt to make more money. I, in no way, feel cheated by this. I did gladly purchase the pilot edisode on DVD, but I must submit that it is a foriegn release of lesser quality as if copied from a laser disc, but still plays in Dolby Digital. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who was a fan of the show in the 90's, but don't forget to order the pilot!
