Hilarious and Unpredictable

This movie is like several movies in one. It is very Pulp Fiction-esque with unattached thoughts and wandering conversations. I believe the last "skit" is even written by Quentin Terrintino. Madonna,Antonio Banderras, and Bruce Willis all make guest appearances. You will be happy you saw this when you are through.

Marilyn Manson - Guns, God and Government World Tour - movie DVD cover picture

I've bought VHS of Marilyn Manson: God is in the TV two years ago and it was great. 1 hour of Music clips, plus additional 1 hour live from tour. It was the coolest VHS I've ever seen.... Until now. 2 days ago, I find out in the shop long awaited DVD GGG. I came home and insert it into my DVD Rom. I only check out, if DD 5.1 is active and immediately press play button. The show, which was waiting for me, was indescribable. I have seen Marilyn Manson in Prague,Czech Republic, but this DVD offers much, much more. It includes records from Japan to Europe and (of course) scenes, I've never could see (anywhere). I love this band!! They're like no other I'm listening to or even I know. Every MM fan MUST have it and see it on his own eyes!!!!

Great dialogues

This movies deserves it's great reviews. The story, I found, is somewhat difficult to follow at times and you have to watch it several times to appreciate all that goes on. And I did watch it three times in a row. Katherine Hepburn is inimitable as the queen. She delivers her lines with such acuteness. The pacing of the dialogues is really faultless and what the movie 'lacks' for in live action, it more than makes up in dialogue and humour. And who needs swordfights anyway if there is so much action to be found in a well written dialogue? There are not enough movies made this way nowadays. Very much recommended.

Scapegoats of War: Is Patriotic Always Political?

This film addresses (and won the Australian "Oscar" for best film over 20 years ago) a vexing, eternal question in the history of humankind and human conflict. Military discipline is invoked to control what would otherwise become a savage horde. Men (and now women) are taught to kill in the name of some identity (national, religious, subversive, for example).
When to the combatants go "too far" in engaging their minds to the task before them? Protecting their own, perhaps putting the enemy at some risk (psychological or physical) doing so? Saving lives. Is war never acceptable as a form of handling conflict, and what should be the consequences of going "out of bounds?" Where is the rulebook? Who does it apply to? This question is as fresh today as at the near-end of the Boer War, a hundred years ago and on the other side of the world, but not further from the questions it raises than nightly news reports on NBC, CBS, ABC, and other media that "report."
I chance upon this film during a late night (or should I say early morning) showing about five years after its release, and have considered it one of my top ten films of all time. It is engaging, the script is excellent, the portrayals of these actual soldiers and their superiors (including Lord Kitchener) during what no one knew then were the waning days of the British Empire, the soundtrack, all would be worthy of "Oscar" nominations even in the Politically Correct climate today.
We see south African blacks treated as nonexistent, the pride of "colonials" as part of the Empire, the arrogance of "true Britons"--all with counterparts in every conflict.
A highly political "court martial" is held for three Australians serving in the Bushveldt Carbineers--a unit using recently developed "commando" techniques. It is a new word applied to war, and something quite different from the Napoleonic tactics seen not only at the entrance of the 19th century, but repeated again and again in armed conflicts throughout.
These three men applied their intelligence and their compassion (for the death of their commanding officer) to the reduction of casualties, and psychological (propaganda) techniques aimed at the Boers, Dutch colonials living in South Africa.
It was a highly political occurence...after all, the Kaiser (Emperor) of Germany, recently united and no doubt ready to enter a "real" conflict, was the late Queen Victoria's grandson!!! If three Australian "colonials" were to be sacrificed in that pursuit, what of it? With stiff upper lips (camouflaged with mustaches for the most part), we see this tragedy laid out in the most "civilized manner" possible. You will have strong feelings for and about the men involved.
The United States of America appears to be the last land-occupying miltary superpower (does the sun set on the "American Empire"?). Given the paradoxes and tactical problems encountered in dozens of "humanitarian" and "military" conflicts following the first Gulf War, the lessons of "Breaker Morant" are no less compelling than in any other time in the history of warfare. In fact, this drama makes draws one to surmise that many "military tribunal" concoctions--in legal language, "off point." Thankfully, the DVD edition of this classic is crisp, compelling, and produced to the highest standards. I recommend purchasing it--you will watch it more than once!

If you're a Clueless fan, you'll LOVE this movie!

"Legally Blonde" is lighthearted froth, a fun movie that carries you along so effortlessly that you may not realize the strong performance by Reese Witherspoon. She hits and maintains just the right note in her portrayal of a California blonde who heads east to follow her boyfriend to, of all places, Harvard Law School. As the plot unfolds, she leaves her legacy-prep love interest far behind as she discovers intellectual acuity and strength of her own. This movie is escapist-entertainment with a heart and with grit. Highly recommended.

True Romance

I know, I know, you're thinking, "We've seen it all before. Typical anime where the guy ends up living with a ton of girls and can't make up his mind which one he loves."Wrong.Ai Yori Aoshi is a refreshing look at the romantic comedy genre. While it is true that there are more girls added to the series, they don't even begin to show up until the fifth episode, by which time, we already know that Aoi and Kaouru are made for each other. Unlike most romantic comedies, Kaouru doesn't suffer from the typical indecisiveness of the standard anime male. In fact, he shows strong resolve. He's a Junior in college, he has his own apartment, and he knows he definitely wants nothing to do with the Hanabishi clan whose patriarch so horribly abused him when he was younger. A man used to lonliness and pain, he remains in good spirits, and Aoi, with her unassuming gentleness, is just the person to be at his side for all time. There's a bizarre sort of sincerity that comes from this series that I've never seen before in other romantic comedy type anime. Also, for those familiar with anime, the series seems to be a condemnation of the Japanese caste system that some still cling to even to this very day.

Field of Dreams = Perfection!!!

Ray Kinsella ( Kevin Costner) loves baseball, and lives on a farm in Iowa. One day while he is working out in the cornfield, he hears the words "If you build it, they will come." This inspires Ray to build a baseball field in the middle of his cornfield. His wife Annie ( Amy Madigan) supports him. But the mission does not stop with building the field. Ray is given more signs that tell him to seek out reclusive novelist ( James Earl Jones), and a player that sacrificed his dream of playing baseball, to be a doctor (Burt Lanchaster). However his persistance is rewarded, when spirits from baseball's past, which include the legendary Shoeless Joe Jackson ( Ray Liotta), start to appear on the field and play games amonsgt themselves.
"Field of Dreams" is one of my favorite movies. The film succeeds on so many levels. The script is absolutely flawless. It features a wonderful mix of baseball, the relationship between father and son, determination, and the undying power of love. The cast is first rate. Kevin Costner, James Earl Jones, Amy Madigan, Burt Lancaster, Ray Liotta, and Timothy Busfield are all spectacular in their roles and really bring the story to life. In all of the films I have seen, the score to "Field of Dreams" is one of the most beautiful and powerful scores I have ever heard. The baseball action in this film is extremely fun to watch. I love how spirits from baseball's past are used, which symbolizes that the magic of baseball will never die. That was a stroke of genius! Director Phil Alden Robinson managed to actually stay historically accurate to all of the players as well. The way Ray Liotta is able to immitate Shoeless Joe Jackson down to the last detail of his playing style is amazing. One of the best features is that the film is set in Iowa. This provided for the corn field which adds a sense of magic to the film. Watching the players dissapear as they walk into the cornfield is breathtaking. But the most memorable thing about the movie without a doubt is the ending. It has to be one of the most touching and memorable endings ever captured on film.
The DVD is a treat on its own. You get commentary by director Phil Alden Robinson and cinematographer John Lindley, a "Field of Dreams" video scrapbook featuring new interviews with cast and crew, behind-the-scenes footage, and MORE! This is definately a must own film for anyone's DVD collection.
