Highly recommended !Splendid Version!

One of the most impressive DVD of a Verdi opera. The conductor chose a very good version of that opera that unfortunately has a no definitive score. Its amazing to hear Verdi in French. The Paris Orchestra sounds very well( splendid cello solo). The singers are terrific!!! Alagna is by far the best Carlos I ever heard. Mattilla , Van Dam , Meier ( excelent), Hampson and the fantastic Eric Halfvarson (as the Grand Inquisitor): a cast to remember. The sets and costumes give a special sense of modernity, and the cruelty of a violent world is even more cruel with this constant contrast of Black and White. Don't even think. By it! Now!!!

Deconstructing Harry - movie DVD cover picture
Great humor & drama, while remaining mostly humor.

I wasn't very receptive to this film when I first saw it. I was distracted by the foul-mouthed Allen character; made to feel uncomfortable. Which was the point I guess. The film opens with a vicious argument and a strange, repeated image that unsettles. If you were expecting something else, you have to adjust.
I adjusted better the second time through and enjoyed it much more, hence this edited review. There are plenty of good jokes (like the out of focus actor, played surprisingly subtly by Robin Williams) and set pieces. The scene when Harry visits his sister is particularly funny - classic Woody Allen.
On the whole, I felt the film was treading old ground perhaps a little more than usual. I don't think of it as one of my favourite Woody Allen films, but it does stand repeated viewing.

Must see for everybody

This is Moores best documentary yet, I urge everybody, democrate or republican, to see this film. Farenheit 9/11 will really opens the eyes of its viewers to what is going on in this country that we as Americans don't hear in the media. Bush must not be elected to a first term, especially after the things he has done...but you must see the film to fully understand, and you will understand once you've saw it.

One of the Most Original Movies Ever!

Rarely will you come across a movie that gives such a concept-- and that concept continues to push the movie in its storytelling where you continue to watch wondering what's going to happen next, what else can be "done" with this unique concept. Add this all with quirky characters, the unusual 7 1/2 floor, a puppeteer who displays his art in an untraditional way (in a scene that should go down as one of the classic off-beat comedy scenes in history!) And that's before we're introduced to the tunnel/portal that leads you into being inside the actor, John Malkovich-- and then that leads to exploration of love and sex between characters, it's totally off the wall and totally engrossing!
If you're looking for something different, something that does not tell Hollywood stories, something that puts art house classics to shame, this is it! Just goes to show the "fantastic," or "magical realism" of which this movie manages to sit so nicely in between is not only alive and well but maybe this is the proof that telling original stories through movies is still possible!

Will someone please stop C. Solomon from reviewing anime?

I mean, come on. He dislikes EVERYTHING. Should he really be reviewing these types of DVDs when he obviously doesn't care for the entire genre? This is one of the best US anime releases of the year, don't let Solomon's featherweight review dissuade you. What it's about (contrary to Solomon's claim that it's about nothing) is the characters--and their remarkable chemistry makes even mundane experiences entertaining. A smart and funny comedy, with characters that you will grow genuinely fond of by the time the final credits roll.

Perfect Black Humor? a must-see movie

This is absolutely my all-time favorite movie! "To Live" takes a different approach to narrate the confusing periods in Chinese history in the 20th century, to tell a store of life, and a history of a nation. Don't get me wrong! It's not a heavy movie like other portrayal movies of Chinese History such as "Farewell My Concubine", "Blue Kite" or "the Last Emperor" (they're good movies as well, but no comparison to "To Live"); quite the contrary, "To Live" is humorous, delightful, positive, and encouraging. It's not only a good comedy that makes you laugh, but also makes you laugh with tears in your eyes, sad and sore in your heart.
The main story line is how am ordinary family of Fu Gui (Ge You) and Jia Zhen (Gong Li) went through their lives in various movements, wars and revolutions in China. A careless gambler, Fu Gui, lost everything he had - money, property and family - only left with a set of puppets. It's the same set of puppets that went through all the ups and downs with Fu Gui, his family and friends. Through all the tragic and comic moments and events, through all the bitter-sweetness and irony, the characters were in such a positive spirit that they could make jokes of anything in life, but only through the body languages and their eyes, you could see the heartache.
There is an old Chinese proverb that states, "the old man lost his horse, but it turned out to be his good luck". The entire movie is based on this theory: whether you gain or lose, promote or demote, you would never know if it were good for you at the end. Life is a series of comedic dramas; if you don't face it with a positive attitude and joke back, even during the hardest struggle, you would not be able to survive.
This movie is a masterpiece if you want to find out the meaning of Life, and how meaningful it is "to live"!

Astounding!

The first Toy Story movie was absolutely amazing but the 1999 sequel however does the unthinkable by taking what was good about the first and building on it!
Here, Tim and Buzz Lightyear are back in their owner's home but things go horribly awry when they are misplaced in a box and are picked up by a saleman who aims to sell it to a public museum and put it up for permanent display and it's up to Tim and Buzz to get themselves back home before it's too late.
There are a lot of great things about this movie but they are too numerous to explain with this review. Go and get this movie as soon as possible! It's worth every penny!

Omar Al-Mukhtar The Legend

Definetly one of the best movies of all time, excellent performance from Anthony Quinn who played the role of the legendary Omar Al-Mukhtar. This movie especially I recommend to all audiences because it really reveals the sufferage of the libyan people under the cruel Italian Regime, and gives an idea of the libyan history in brief. Magnificent Movie!!!!
