High Fidelity to the Ideals of Greatness

"High Fidelity" is a brilliant movie. Brilliant and moving. John Cusack is the best he's ever been since his breakout performance in "Say Anything..." as Rob Gordon, the depressed, dissatisfied owner of an unfrequented record store in Chicago. The films tone, the same tragicomic, personal, fourth-wall-breaking style perfected in Woody Allen's landmark "Annie Hall," is set beautifully at the very beginning, when Rob, sitting alone, sadly listening to music, says to the audience,
"Which came first, the music or the misery? Everyone worries about kids growing up with guns, as if some culture of violence will take them over, but nobody worries about kids listening to literally thousands of songs about heartbreak, rejection, pain, misery, and loss. Did I listen to pop music because I was miserable? Or was I miserable because I listened to pop music?"
Wow.
After that glance into Rob's soul, he doesn't let up, describing in detail his Top Five Worst Breakups. These flashbacks are both clever and poignant and justify his feeling that he is always left by women. The script gives Cusack a lot to work with, and he handles it beautifully, telling the camera everything. He's especially profound when he reveals that his #5 Worst Breakup actually meant nothing too him and was in fact merely a way to bump his current ex-esque-girlfriend out of the top five. With "Say Anything...", "The Sure Thing", "Grosse Point Blanke", "Being John Malkovitch" and now "High Fidelity", I think it's fair to call John Cusack the best actor of his generation. What do you say?

It's is the best thing you will ever buy.

Twin Peaks is the most intellectually stimulating television series in the history of mankind. Every single episode was perfect in every way. Kyle MacLaughlan played his role perfecly. It had a twisted David Lynch feel to it. Each episode has a perfect balance of suspence, comedy, mystery, drama, and just plain wierdness. I generally can't sit still for more than ten minutes at a time but when I rented the Twin Peaks series I watched five to six episodes in one sitting and I still wanted more. Trust me if you like david Lynch's style then you will never regret buying this video set. David Stolte END

a sequal is really necessay to do Tag Purvis justice.

...a really quiet, (this is sometimes the only way it can be in our life today) existence "BE" for those who love same sex fellow human beings. Not all love is consumated - ever. Not all love is "what we would like". I wish that Tag Purvis would consider a sequal that would be titled" COME HOME ...please come home.Story Line (?): Lee and Griffith DO write to each other. Lee is killed in an oil-rig accident (he never made it to the West). His brother, Seth , closes the estate - which consists of: truck, $1,089.56 in cash and Griffith's letters. Seth reads the letters and thinks about them for months. (Griffith and Lee do send letters to each other about every four months. Seth "sees" their love for each other, and starts answering as if he were Lee. When Griffith ask Lee to "Come Home...please come home. Seth starts driving to Missippi to meet Griffith. He arrives in Pine Apple. Griffith has become a doctor with his practice is in Lilly May's cottage. Seth parks the truck (as the cottage is crowded) and starts walking and finally finds the river, the swiming hole, and the bridge - then the cematary. He reads and then goes to sleep on Lilly May's tombstone. Griffith finds the truck, and finally finds Seth asleep. Griffith puts a blanket unders Seths head and lays down beside him...Tag Purvis knows how to carry this story line forward....Griffith and Seth adopt Emily's twins, after she dies in child-birth, Summer has died and Griffith is living in the "big house" alone. Lives continue. (Tag Purvis, if you accept this challenge, Please let them have a good life togeather.) Thanks.

Why Does Herr R. Run Amok? - movie DVD cover picture
mesmerizing

This is a film that should not be too thouroughly explained prior to watching. Mostly it is a series of the every day happenings in the life of Herr R, a reticent underachiever. He is the child of a certain spiritless bourgeois existence. We watch him at his job, not quite making points with the boss, not quite winning the favour of his coworkers. We watch him try to teach his average, but slightly dreamy, son to pronounce properly. We watch his wife hosting the self-absord and catty neighbors to tea. In short, we watch an unextraordinary bit of an unextraordinary life, which is somehow familiar and for some reason completely entrancing. As one watches it can't helped but be asked why wouldn't Herr R run amok?

The Color Green- a good band

Such a wonderfully romantisized groupie movie. Everyone played the parts wonderfully in this flick, especially Tara Reid. Although she never becomes a "complete" groupie, she does learn much about them and thier motives. She learns about passion, love, and self respect. I just loved how it began with her being so inoccent and her wanting to be someone else. It's kind of an artistic movie and you really can't explain it. So just watch it. Being a Groupie is not a bad thing, it means loving something about someone else (whether it's music or sex).

Pure comedic blast!

When I'm watching a comedy, I expect it to make me laugh, and if it's a good comedy, then I come out with tears in my eyes and pains in my stomach from laughing at the way it tickles me. "Scary Movie" is one such movie, and is, by far, one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. It made me laugh in ways I never thought possible, and yes, it is overly gross and nasty, but that's just part of its good fun. The laughs keep coming, the cast knows just how to work the material, and the material itself is fall-down funny.
The plot is a mix-and-match of the teenage horror franchises that have dominated the big screen in the latter years of the last decade. It combines comedic send-ups of storylines from the "I Know What You Did Last Summer" movies, the "Scream" trilogy, and "The Blair Witch Project." But to try and summarize it without giving it all away, a girl in the beginning gets killed while getting ready to watch a video, and the kids who knew her at school think it has something to do with the guy that they killed exactly one year ago in their car. As the bodies begin to pile up, the laughs come aplenty, and you'll find yourself laughing at every minute of it.
The plot uses a lot of gross-out jokes and toilet humor to bring out the laughs of the parodical situations, which brings the audience to a cross-roads of sorts. Either you laugh at it and enjoy it, or be grossed out by it and dislike the whole thing; with a movie like this, there's really no in between. I found myself laughing my way the entire way through, at pretty much every joke there is to laugh at. Whether it was Shannon Elizabeth incorporating her vanity and wanna-be intellectual attitudes into her role, or comic genius Cheri Oteri's hilarious portrayal of Gail Hailstorm, our favorite reporter who stops at nothing to get her story, the movie kept me entertained in a fashion and style I never thought possible.
The parodies pretty much everything you've seen and heard from the popular teen horror movies mentioned above. One scene even pokes fun at the way in which the ages of the characters of these movies do not match the ages of the actors cast for the roles. Another takes place in a movie theater, reminiscent of the opening sequence in "Scream 2," only this time the girl deserves what she gets. Telling more will only ruin what has become a very popular and outrageous parody.
The cast knows what they are doing right from the get-go; they know how to work the material, and they look like they're having fun doing it, too. With the talents of John Abrahams, Carmen Electra, Shannon Elizabeth, Cheri Oteri and so many more, there is never a dull moment here; it is simply that funny!
The reason for such a short review: too many surprises to be given away if it were any longer! The movie has so many funny moments that sometimes blinking will result in something missed out on. The jokes are laugh-out-loud funny, the cast is bright and peppy, the plot is tremendously entertaining and engaging, and it just plain rocks.

My favorite all-time movie.

I found Gregory Peck's portrayal to be very faithful to the character of Atticus Finch. The whole cast was effectively convincing of Macon, GA in the 1930's. I have watched this film about 20 times, but I keep going back for more.

One of my Favorite Movies

Im 17 years old, and have watched this movie as a little kid millions of times. My dad LOVES this movie. I got so sick of it that each time we watched it, i was always "daydreaming" of other things.

I wanted to give him a good gift and get him his favorite movie. I automatically thought of this movie and bought it instantly.

Well, I decided to watch it. (now that im older, able to understand what all the "kids" are going through.) It really hits home for a teenager to be graduating because all your friends truely are leaving and going seperate ways.

Now that i understand the lines and plot, it has become my favorite movie. The DVD makes the movie easier to follow, it doesnt have a near black scene unlike the VHS where it is amazingly grainy and dark. They even put in a new sky for the opening scene. Go check it out.

This movie is a best buy for any car racing person. The story/plot hits home to just about everyone. If you had friends in highschool, this movie is for you.
