The Lord of the Rings - The Two Towers (Widescreen Edition) - movie DVD cover picture

This movie is heroic in every sense of the world. It's a heroic fantasy, it's of heroic proportions, it stirs heroic feelings in the viewers... and it takes a heroic effort of will to sit through the whole thing at once, because it's just so huge.
The extended version of The Two Towers fills in many of the details that didn't translate from the book to the theatrical release. Not everything is here, of course, since not everything that works in a book would look good in a movie. Some lines have been reassigned--a speech by Tom Bombadil comes out of Treebeard's mouth, a Gandalf speech comes from Grima Wormtongue--and many narrative events have been streamlined to fit on two DVDs. But enough is here to satisfy most purists.
One problem is the increased role for Liv Tyler as Arwen. I've never been all that impressed with Tyler, and the struggle to give her more face time distracts from the actual narrative thrust. Thankfully, these additions aren't so big that they anchor this otherwise dynamic film.
The casting, direction, and location work is to die for, of course, and it more than justifies the unbelievable audience loyalty and high monetary reward the film series has earned. Like the second Star Wars film, The Empire Strikes Back, this second film of a trilogy uses its status as a bridge between stories to its best advantage. Without the sluggishness of introducing the characters or the anticlimax of conclusion, this may even be the most consistently good movie of the three.
Blessed with casting coups, heroic action, and some of the most beautiful visuals in recent memory, this DVD is easily equal to all the hype you've heard.

Simply Incredible

I just finished seeing the mini series on DVD and it was an incredible experience. I read all the dune books and I can say this is the closest you will ever get to a correct interpretation. I cannot wait for the new series if they are ever made.

Better than the Marx brothers.

Great hilarious movie based on the Marx bros "a night at the opera". It may seem tough but it's better and with far more laughs than the original movie. A must see! But beware! You may hurt yourself watching it... from the laughs!

Absolutely Fantastic!

I had the good fortune to be invited to a premiere of this movie in New York, and it was FABULOUS! The audience was packed with people of all ages, and everyone had a great time. And how could they not? The movie has something for everyone! Fun, adventure, phenomenal graphic artistry, romance, humor, and a bouyant spirit! The characters are also brilliantly brought to life by the actors. I never would have thought of Brad Pitt as Sinbad, but he gives such a goregeous rough-voiced humor to this pirate that you can't help but love him. Catherine Zeta-Jones is perfect as the fiercely passionate Marina, Joseph Fiennes gives a heroic nobility to Prince Proteus, and Michelle Pheiffer is deliciously wicked as the goddess of chaos, Eris. The crew is also fantastically lovable and deserves high praise. Go see this film! You won't be disappointed! I can't wait to see it again!

"You don't feel full, you just feel fine"

They definitely need to release these at a quicker pace, i.e. Friends. They added a lot more interesting special features on Season 2 and hope they continue. I'd love to see more bloopers from each season.

Shania Up in Chicago DVD

This DVD is a must buy for yourself and a great gift for a friend. I was at the concert and the DVD really captures the spirit and energy of a live Shania show. 2+ hours of great music by a great singer/songwriter with the best back up band in music today. Not a dull moment nor a bad song, and the DVD includes several songs that were cut to fit the concert in the time slot they had when it aired on TV.

magical; a keeper

Okay, I think all KJ fans (at least those worth their salt) have already gotten to the point where the moaning and gesticulations no longer detract from the music. There might have been like 2 or 3 days in there (before the light of divine intervention shone down upon me from musical heaven) where I thought the sounds were strange, but that's it. Bottom line, the concert is AMAZING, and if you can't get past the intermittent noises, you ain't a fan of Keith Jarrett

Shogun stands alone

For a mini series on ancient Japan, I believe this one is alone.
It will take an entire week end to watch, but it is well worth staying in and watching on a cold, icy evening when one wants to stay in and stay warm.

The performances of all of the actors are great. One little mentioned movie called TAIPAN, would make an excellent companion to this. I love any movies about ancient civilisations.

Simply Fantastic

This is a great movie for the Jackie Chan fan who loves action. In my opinion, this is Jackie Chan's best movie, because it has some of the best stunts and fight scenes ever preformed in one of his movies. So if your looking for a good Chan mmovie and your on, take a look at The Legend of Drunken Master. You won't be dissapointed.
