Hauntingly beautiful

With so many reviews given before me, I will then go straight to the point about this movie.
For me, I admit that I am bias when movies are concern, bias in a sense that, no matter if the movie is from USA, China, Japan or Russia, aside from good script, good story line ,good characterization and free of unwanted prejudices and bashings, it must have GREAT CINEMATOGRAPHY! And to me,at least, Dances with the Wolves can be consider a buffet. Pick of your choice, its all there and eat all you can. It is this sumptuous.
Another thing, me personally at least, as an Asian viewer, who not only love and live along with different ethnicities, horse herders, nomads , farmers and aborigines along with modern cities and ancient villages, the main interesting point in watching Dances with the wolve is like watching a beautiful live documentary about the history of various Indian tribes and the Western Frontier period drama. Historical figures. Also,it is like putting me with its various people on the other side of the planet in the historical past.
Then , this movie to me , is very special in that sense.
I realized that the story of the movie may be fictatious, but the scenery and panoramas of the great frontier, the prairie , the buffalo hunts are visually stunning and the lifestyle and the costume of the Indians are amazingly beautiful, complicated and yet very very human,
I dont know how accurate this movie is in term of costumes and language and all, perhaps my American counterparts can tell me. But knowing Spielberg, the highly acclaimed director and his reputation, I can safely said I believe the authenticities he put into his movies.
Some of my most favourite scenes are vista and the surrounding, so peaceful and quiet, when Kevin Costner in that long bouts of silent comtemplation, the Indians on the horizon line on horses, the stray lonely wolf that followed the lone soldier everywhere and the frustration and barrier of communication as well as the exchanging of gifts are inspiring, comical as well as touching.

I absolutely loved it

i was pretty excited when i found out that Romeo and Juliet was a required reading for my English 9 class. i knew bits and peices of the story, but wanted to know all of it. I instatenly fell in LOVE with the story and was very excited to watch the movie. i like how the original Shakespearian language was kept in the film, along with the setting. i saw both this, and the newer version of this movie and like this one MUCH better. i highly suggest this movie to anyone who likes Shakespeare, or at least can understand it. this is such a beautiful romantic story and Olivia and Leonard did an amazing job bringing the story to life.

Chi-Ching!

Simply top-quality programming! We've just had this in the UK on satellite TV & we love it in my house! My wife & I are devastated DA3 is not on it's way, but we're still holding out that James Cameron & the all the crew will consider putting together a 3rd series of the show. There's no wooden acting in this whatsoever. Bring on DA3!

4.5stars

Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World" is like a sea journey, sailing on for 138 minutes without any particular destination in mind. You see plenty of lovely sights, and get a few snatches of swashbuckling and derring-do, but you get all that without benefit of plot or character development. This is a film that is literally all about the journey, not the destination. It is, though, a rather entertaining journey at times, and never a dull one. YES you read right, despite the length, this film is good. Not as good as Lord of the Rings mind you, but better than The Last Samaria. Plot is following Capt. Jack Aubrey, played by Russell Crowe, who must be a great actor because he's so likable in his movies even though he's a jerk in real life. The year is 1805, and Aubrey is piloting the HMS Surprise, out chasing down one of Napoleon's boats, which is said to be intent on spreading the Napoleonic Wars to South America. The Surprise is damaged in an early skirmish with the French vessel, but Aubrey does not turn back. He insists on repairing the ship at sea even as it continues its pursuit. This is folly, says the ship's surgeon, Stephen Maturin ), who is also Aubrey's best friend. Stephen suggests it's Aubrey's personal pride that's getting in the way of making a more rational decision, and that his crew's lives are at stake. Aubrey says no, that's not it, and the matter is dropped. Did you blink? Because if you did, you missed all you're going to get in the way of character arcs or personal struggles. Unlike most protagonists, Aubrey does not learn, grow or change over the course of the film. He's presented as a larger-than-life leader who doesn't make mistakes, and even his apparent mistakes turn out for the best. Sad thing is, I know people like that! The direction by Peter Weir ("The Truman Show," "Dead Poets Society") is praiseworthy indeed, as nearly the entire film takes place on the open sea, and the guy actually had a real ship built for that reason. It is far more exhilarating to see actual people on an actual boat on the actual ocean than it is to see them computer-generated, or to have scenes shot in water tanks on studio lots. Where trickery has been used, it's been integrated seamlessly with the real thing. As a viewer, it's a little thrilling to be part of a seafaring adventure, even if we're not really going anywhere. All in all I say that this is time at the cinema well spent and you should definately go and see it.

Listen to What is Said......

One of my all-time favorite films, I first believed I was watching a one-off "adventure" movie. This movie is actually about the adventure of "life" and our attitude toward adversity, and the choice of whether to take the high road when that choice is presented. Watch it twice, and listen closely to what is said..... ...Baldwin and Hopkins are superb.

Twelve Kingdoms - Chapter 1 - Shoku - movie DVD cover picture
12 Kokuki -- An Impressive Epic Story

The Twelve Kingdoms is a very complex and at the same time very intriguing story about a high school girl, Youko, being transported to another world where she finds mysterious wild beasts, strange customs, and unfriendly people. The places in the alternate world look like ancient China (500-800 B.C.) 12 Kokuki has all the air of a Fushigi Yuugi (FY) but it is darker and more realistic than FY. It is more logical and reasonable than FY. The characters are more matured because they have to face the harsh reality from furious political fights to basic personal survival.
There are many volumes to the Twelve Kingdoms series. The first set of books is called "Tsuki no Kage - Kage no Umi" or "Sea of Shadow, Shadow of the Moon." There are 14 animated episodes devoted to this set with episode 14 as a recap. "Sea of Shadow, Shadow of the Moon" starts off by introducing us to Youko, the perfectly nice, considerate class prefect of a typical high school in Japan. She has been having nightmares lately. One day, a man called Keiki showed up in her classroom and asked her to be his master. After getting rid of some troubles, Keiki took her to an alternate world and over there Youko had to face a master plan of assassination against her. No one came to her rescue and no one came to give her shelter. No one fell in love with Youko but she became a fugitive herself being hunted by the local authorities and giant wild beasts. Feeling betrayed, Youko became very aggressive, wild, a little bit of cunning, and suspicious of people.
The story starts off with a good pace but slows down toward the middle. It picks up again from episode 8 on. I literally glued myself to the screen from episode 10 on. Scenery is stunningly beautiful and the animation is pristine. The opening scene of the opening overture, the Twelve Kingdoms Fantasia, is breathtaking. The music corresponds with the scenery by the use of Chinese fiddle. The Twelve Kingdoms Fantasia reflects the gallantry, the strength, and the courage of a warrior and the outro theme song, "Getsumei Tuuei" or "The Mystic Moon in the Shadow of the Wind," reveals the lonely heart of a warrior. The end credit song is particularly romantic, displaying the soft side of our hero.
The subsequent sets of the Twelve Kingdoms series are: Ep. 15 - 21: "Kaze no Banri - Reimei no Sora" or "Breeze of Sea, the Coast of the Mystic Palace"Ep. 22: The BookEp. 23 - 39: "Wind of a Thousand Miles, the Sky of Dawn"Ep. 40: "Riding along with the Moon"Ep. 41 - still going : "The Eastern Sea God, the Western Vast Ocean" - the phrase "vast ocean" is associated with sadness and unhappy feelings.
I originally requested Studio Perriot to have Pioneer distribute the American version of the Twelve Kingdoms because Pioneer did such a great job with FY. Well, I just hope that Media Blasters would do a good job with translation and English dubbing with this beautiful anime. For more information about the series, check out 12Kokuki's Japanese official website. It's got pictures, character descriptions, synopsis of each episode, plus all the latest news and products. Unfortunately, the website is in Japanese but at least you can take a look at the pictures. ^_^

A most inspirational movie, a must see!

I first saw this movie years ago, it kind of reminds me of that movie "dangerous minds",Except on a lighter note. I have to say this movie was quite inspirational though. It shows just how important hard work of any kind can be when wanting to achieve ones best. I personally felt a sense of victory as well as the people in the movie did. I must say that this movie is a must see for those of us who did see dangerous minds.

DVD Collection review

Over the years, Britney Spears has released several DVDs, most containing just a small, small portion of her video collections, finally this set brings her entire video catalog to one disc, with more than you could ask for!

The first portion of the DVD Contains all of her music video's in original form, uncut, in descending order in terms of age (Newest to oldest).
The video's on this section include (As well as a brief description and person rating of the videos):

1) My Prerogative (Which features Britney Spears at a party, other than that it is hard to describe though, I'd give this about a 4/5)
2) Outrageous (Which features Britney and Snoop dogg playing basketball, This video runs for roughly 1 minute (I'd rate this a 2.5/5, I just didnt care for it))
3) Everytime (Which has Britney spears and dealing with the problems of fame, never being able to go anywhere without being attacked by a mob of paparazzi, 4.5/5)
4) Toxic (A real fun video of britney traveling through various locations in a bright flashy Charlies Angels style, this is probably my favorite video, 5/5)
5) Me against the Music (Madonna and Britney performing throughout a club, 4/5)
6) Boys (Britney singing and performing in a tropical island/castle paradise, 4/5)
7) I love rock N roll (a flashy grunge style video of britney performing this cover song, 4/5)
8) Not a girl, not yet a woman (Britney performing on a desert cliff, a slower paced video compared to her others, 3.5/5)
9) Overprotected (another flashy, 'fun' video of britney and her friends traveling through a hotel and a night on the town, 4.5/5)
10) overprotected - international version (a solo video of her performing in various locations, not as entertaining as the other version, 4/5)
11) Slave 4 u (Britney and others performing in a hot steam-room club, 4/5)
12) Dont let me be the last to know (Britney on an island spending time with a guy, another slower-paced video of hers, 3.5/5)
13) Stronger (A darker video of her performing in a room with quite a few special effects going on around her, 5/5)
14) Lucky (Britney spears telling a story about the luckiest girl, A nice colorful video, 4/5)
15) Oops I did it again (Britney on Mars singing to a spaceman, 4.5/5)
16) from the bottom of my broken heart (Britney spears by her house and in a field, another slow-paced song and video, 3/5)
17) Born to make you happy (Another solo video of britney performing in colorful rooms, 4/5)
18) Crazy (Britney and Melissa Joan Hart performing as 50's waitresses in a futuristic bright setting, 5/5)
19) Sometimes (ANOTHER slower paced video of britney on the beach (Is anyone noticing a trend here? ;) , 3.5/5)
20) Baby one more time (Britney as a catholic school girl in.. a school! performing, 5/5)

Overall, I'd say Baby one more Time, Crazy, Stronger, Oops, Overprotected, and Toxic are by far my favorite videos, and this collection would be worth it for them alone.

Onto the next section of the DVD, the Alternate video footage.

1) My Prerogative (This video lets you view the short video clips and digital images taken in the actual video)
2) Outrageous (Outtakes of Snoop Dogg and Britney on the set of the video)
3) Everytime (an alternate angle of britney spears (The whole video is her in a white outfi singing to the camera)
4) Toxic (Karaoke version - Britney spears in her 'nude' suit (only wearing the glitter from the toxic video) performing Toxic in front of a green screen. The instrumental version of the song plays while strategically placed lyrics cover britney spears so you can sing along)
5) Slave 4 U (3 alternate angles to the video, including an acapella (no music) version)
6) Dont let me be the last to know (Outtakes and additional footage, invluding a big collage of her videos put together which is real interesting)
7) Stronger (Outtakes)
8) Oops I did it again (Uncut version)
9) Crazy (Remix video)
10) Baby one more time (Uncut version)

The video's themselves look great, and the sound is as well. Unfortunately though, the sound is just Stereo (And not digital sound), for music video's its not a big deal though.

Overall, it's got hours of footage on the disc itself.

The disc comes in a 3-fold Cardboard case with Britney on the front (With a shiny foil background and embossed design), the track listing on the back, and a 3rd side with images of all her albums/singles.

The inside of it contains a slot on the left to hold the booklet (also a 3-fold, double sided one, with 2 of the panels showing a collage of pictures and memorabilia of her, the 3rd panel having another track-listing. The back of the 3-fold booklet is a poster of her (Same as the cover).

Back to the case, the center panel of it features a black and white picture of britney (On the same reflective material) with a disc holder in the center.

Finally, the right section is another black and white picture of her, on the silver foil, which has her singing.

Overall, even for a 'casual fan' like myself who has never bought her CDs but has enjoyed her videos, this is a great collection and for a lot price. I highly recommend it.
