Sailor Moon SuperS - Pegasus Collection I - movie DVD cover picture
Hard to place

It's so easy to kick the SuperS season around. For starters, it centers around Chibiusa, Usagi's future daughter, better known to those who hate her as "the Pink Spore." It also stars a winged unicorn named Pegasus (how he transformed from his original Greek version into an alicorn is beyond me) who spends most of the series popping up in Chibiusa's room after dark. Furthermore, the first set of villains, known as the Amazon Trio, use what is arguably the lamest method of "sneaking up" on their victims that you'll ever see. Finally, it's missing the Outer Senshi, which is blasphemy for the fans of the Haruka/Michiru (a.k.a. Uranus/Neptune) couple.
However, somewhere beneath that oh-so-sugary crust is a very good series which manages to be very entertaining in spite of itself. SuperS features some hilarious Usagi/Mamoru/Chibiusa interaction, taking the future King, Queen, and Princess into situations which make you wonder if they're going to be able to keep from killing each other before they even get started as a family. Also, as lame as their attacks may be, the Amazon Trio is a lot of fun to watch, especially when they're lounging around before picking their weekly victim. The "monster of the week" and "evil organization" concepts that run through the entire Sailor Moon series get new twists this time around, making for some very interesting mischief. The evil organization in the SuperS season is called the Dead Moon Circus, and as a result both the major villains and weekly monsters are based on twisted versions of bizarre circus characters. If you've always thought of clowns as being evil, just wait until you meet Mr. Magic Pierrot.
SuperS also features some of the best background music of the series, with the Dead Moon Circus themes being the highlight. If memory serves, Naoko Takeuchi (the author of the original manga) once said that the end credits theme used in the later episodes was her favorite music to date when the series aired. Your mileage may vary, but even if you don't like it, there are more than enough good musical moments elsewhere in the series to make up for it.
An important note: one member of the Amazon Trio (Fish Eye) was a big problem for the folks who dubbed this series into English. They didn't dare try to present a gay transvestite character to the afternoon Cartoon Network kiddie crowd, so they wound up making some serious changes to the script as a result. If you are the least bit homophobic, you won't like the first half of this series at all if you watch the original Japanese version. Still, if you're offended to this degree, the Haruka/Michiru lesbian pair from the S season probably chased you off before you even got this far. Haruka and Michiru are missing from SuperS, but the gender twists are back with a vengance. You can avoid dealing with this altogether by watching only the English dub, but the Japanese version is so superior in both acting and storyline that it merits watching even if you're not 100% comfortable with the ideas that it presents.
All in all, the SuperS series is classic Sailor Moon, even if it does spend too much time on the Pink Spore. It's still a major part of one of the best anime series ever created, and a must for anyone who wants to really experience the full scope of Japanese animation.

very smart AND very funny!

While many people view this series as sort of a "Friends" knockoff, it really isn't. There are similarities, but the humor isn't as forced, and it is also more sophisticated on one hand, but more low-brow on the other hand. The result is a wonderful British comedy, that hits any 30-something who's been single or dating quite close to home. The characters don't get more fully fleshed out until the second and third seasons (which probably won't be out on DVD for another few years), but the writing is top-notch and the humor will not only cause giggles of amusement, but also full-out belly laughs. This is one of the smartest and funniest shows on TV today!

Vampire Hunter D - Bloodlust - movie DVD cover picture
One of the best 10 movies I have seen. Period.

I cannot say why. It is, after all, animated. There are few animated full-length films on my best-100 list. Nevertheless, Vampire Hunter D is on my of-all-movies, top-10 list.
I am not knowledgeable enough to rate the animation. Maybe the most important thing is it is not evident after the first few viewing minutes; the movie just becomes an engrossing story. Animation only comes to mind afterwards; when something is obviously better done through animation than special effects (somewhat as black and white goes away after a few minutes of Young Frankenstein or Casablanca and comes to mind only when you think back on the film and realize color would not have been an asset).
Bloodlust has fabulous characters and a story complex enough and good enough to draw you in completely. It is much better than the first film.

Best Movie Of 2001 And The Best Movie Of The Decade

Marc Forster's Monster's Ball Is A unique A challenging film. Halle Berry Performance is the best I have seen since Marlon Brando in LAST TANGO IN PARIS and James Spader In CRASH. Billy Bob Thornton performance is simply amazing. As for the rest of the cast Peter Boyle, Hieth Ledger, and Sean Combs there perfomance's where also brillent. But Halle Berry's is the one which stick's out the most she desevred that oscer way more than anybody else did. This film is very good and is one of my personel favorit's its by far the best film of the decade the only film that I liked about the same was The War Zone. This film is not a film for childern this is a very adult movie and contains explist sex scenes, nudity, violence, language, and strong adult themes. One word somes up this film WOW.

You'll Laugh, You'll Cry, You'll Bust a Gut!

This is a good compiolation of classic episodes, there isn't really any dull moments, except if you're only paying attention to the movie, instead of Tom, Crow, Joel, or Mike, then yes, it will be very boring. This collection features 4 DVDs, with B movies mostly from the 80's.

Movie 1. ANGELS REVENGE: I never quite understood the plot of the movie, but it seems like its mainly about a group of female spies, a cheesy Bond like re-make, or if you're into the really horrible Cartoon network show Totaly Spies, it will be equivalent to that as well.

Movie 2. CAVE DWELLERS: Now this is a classic....seems to be about a Hercules like hero named Ator, who's trying to help this one girl save (don't know her name) to save her father from his captor. "So, lets recap the action so far..." which appears to be about "ummmm...none so far" which about sums it up for the movie. At the end, they are more then upset with the movie "You know, we had it the worst, we had to watch you watching the movie" says Forrester. Crow shows Dr. Forrester the mistakes they found in the movie. "What do you want from us? We're evil....evil"!!

Movie 3. POD PEOPLE: No....this has nothing to do with Pods, and it has nothing to do with People, it has everything to do with HURTING. It's a foreign film that is dubbed over, sometimes the voices are a little off at times, and it seems like it tries to be an ET rip off mixed in with a horror film. It's about a comet that crashes on earth, in a forrest that has alien eggs on it. 3 poachers see are in the movie periodically who first see the comet, Tom Servo shows us his Yoda impression "Luke..use the force Luke". A high-pitch annoying little kid comes and brings an egg home which hatches revealing the "Pod Person" who later in the movie starts killing everyone for no reason. There is even a really bad pop band that plays on the movie as well, and they travel to where the cabin, a drive that seems to take at least an hour of the film "we bought the van so we're gonna film it" cracks up Crow. They end up setting camp near that the kid and the family cabin. "okay, is this movie C or D"? Asks the lost Servo. This is a funny movie thats probably one of the best in this collection.

Movie 4. SHORTS VOL. 1: A great collection of shorts, some appear in previous DVDs from MST3k box set 1, but still a great laugh. Probably the best ones on here are CHEATING, about a boy who cheats on his math exam and then gets kicked out of the student council. "You've made some powerfull enemies son". The second one is A DATE WITH YOUR FAMILY, an old film that is now knows as "The Woody Allen Story," a hillarious 50's or 60's show about how a modern family should do before, and during a dinner with your family, remember, it's always accustomed to say grace before eating, what could be going through this families head? "Please God take me now". Finally last but not least, WHY STUDY INDUSTRIAL ARTS? About a highschool student who seems to be obsessed with being a carpender "I keep a magazine of Popular Mechanics under my mattress". Which the gang seems to have some of the best comments on here.

This is a great collection over all, and I suggest that you get it.

A Little Princess: Not a masterpeice, but worth a watch!

This movie is worth seeing at least once! If you've read the book, I'm not sure if you'll like it as much... However it stays truer to the book then does the Shirley Temple version. It conveys Sarah's strong imagination and hope for her father. Although she is not portrayed as much of a strong girl as she is in the book its okay. Movies for a book are always different. Sometimes its a good thing. Not as good as the book, and the ending is not the same as the book either. So if you are reading the book this movie wont spoil to much.
At fails at many points in the movie, it does portray the chief teacher right nor her sister. But it has good acting, and since it is based on the book, a solid story. Much better then the Shirley Temple version. The Shirley Temple version just has her hoping her daddy is alive, crying, dancing, and searching hospitals for her father. This is alot different then that version. The Shirly Temple version is almost like it was based on the same book.
So check this out, its worth at least one watch! *HOPE* it was helpfull!
God Bless ~Amy

Watch This Movie, Be Scared, Question Reality.

This movie takes the concept of horror to a differnt level. The story centers on an insurance investigator who goes looking for the famous author Sutter Cane after he mysteriously vanishes before giving his latest manuscript, "In the Mouth of Madness," to his publisher. The plot concept in this movie is mind-bending, beyond what any other movie I can think of has been able to reproduce. Definately a good addition to your DVD collection...that is, if you can handle it.

The Princess and the Warrior

The Princess and the Warrior was intoxicating! Franka and Benno's performances were brilliant with talent. I fell in love with both of them. More passion and physical contact (just a little) between the two would have taken this movie to a higher level, but, none-the-less, I could watch this movie over and over again.
