Hard To Find Classic 70's Made For TV Movie

This is your movie if you liked watching Kolchak:The Night Stalker back in the mid-70's. It is produced and directed by the same creative force behind that one, Dan Curtis. This movie relies much on atmosphere and great spooky music that keeps you on the edge of your seat until the very end. SCREAM includes great acting by its stars Peter Graves and Clint Walker(who also delivers some of the most classic lines of a hunter gone mad). So, if you want to return back to the 70's and see a classic made for tv movie, I highly suggest you check this one out. Five out of five stars.

Three wise guys.

Did you ever wonder if Humphrey Bogart could play something other than a tough guy? In this film he plays a delightful con man who with his three friends has just escaped from the prison on Devil's Island. He and his friends get the opportunity to see what the real world is like when they meet the family that runs the general store on Christmas Eve. They discover that everyone in prison isn't necessarily bad, and that some of the worst villians never see the inside of a prison. This is one of those films that you can watch again and again.

You can't stop watching...

Blue Gender intrigued me when I caught a few episodes on Adult Swim, enough to buy the set. And it's quite an adventure. The animation ranges from stunning to just okay, but the story arc is riveting and very powerful. The box set is the way to go, because if you miss an episode, you miss a major part of the plot. And there are some wonderfully enexpected twists. Yuji Kaido, awoken from an illness-induced cryogenic sleep to a world gone mad, and Marlene Angel, the seemingly emotionless perfect soldier, are the central characters. Over the course of the series they undergo remarkable growth, discovering their own strengths and limitations, and of course learning to care about each other. It is a harsh, bitter environment these people inhabit. Other characters come and go. Many die shocking, horrible deaths. But Marlene and Yuji are the heart, soul and emotional core in this story of giant mutated insects and armored mech suits. The English dub is quite good, although Yuji's helpless whining when he is first awoken does get irritating. The orchestral score is terrific, perfectly capturing the suspense and drama playing out on screen. At times the music and sound effects are positively chilling. The DVDs do contain some sexual situations and graphic gore that was cut from the Cartoon Network broadcast. Overall, Blue Gender is a strong series. But be forewarned, once you are caught up in the story, you may not be able to stop watching.

No Controversy, Just Terrific Television

I never saw "Taxi" until Nick@Nite was showing them and I fell in love with it. I managed to get most of them on VHS but all the episodes were out of order and the tapes took up so much room. I want them to release all the other episodes too so I can finally junk these worn out tapes! The best part of these discs is being able to see scenes that I never saw before. If you ask me, these have to be the full shows because the versions that Nick was rerunning didn't have so many lines and moments that I now get to see. And I don't know which tape I have it on, but there is probably an episode from later on where Jim does something notable with a hat but it can't be the one where he joins the garage because that doesn't make any sense. Oh, and I watched the episode again and the reason the audience laughs is because of the punchline he delivers as he puts the hat on. When he crashes the cab with Alex in the back seat I still LOL! And don't get me started on that drivers ed test routine. Whoever thought that up is a genius!!

Come on, guys, get seasons three to five out soon!!! I'm dying to see the episodes where Simka marries Latka and then goes crazy with PMS ("PEEL ME LIKE A GRAPE!").

HILARIOUS

It's episodes like these that made season 6 one of my favorites. The first episode has the cast up to their usual antics, as what was going to be a date between Dr. Tofu(yep, he's still in the anime) and Kasumi goes into chaos when the rest of the gang heads along with them to the amusement park. Seems as if Tofu has far from improved from his, er, "Kasumi Condition," since we last saw him. In the English dub, this was Ian Corlett's final episode as Dr. Tofu. In future episodes he was voiced by Kirby Morrow(X-Men Evolution, Escaflowne) The second episode has Ranma once again matching wits(if that's what you can call them) with the witless Hikaru Gosunkugi. Hikaru has yet another incompetent plan to destroy Ranma, or at least his credibility. Will he ever learn? I doubt it. The third episode takes the cake though, as Kuno gets amnesia, and seems stronger than ever. But he's STILL chasing after Ranma's female side. You'd have to see it for yourself! I strongly recommend this volume!

Still scary!

The great thing about this movie is the fact that there is an extreme sense of paranoia. John Carpenter does a fantastic job of making it frightening but not resorting to a bunch of teen slashers. Kurt Russell does an awesome job and the film doesn't rely on the top stars in the world to get the big bucks. It is done masterfully from start to finish. Yea, it's that good.
Basically a lone outpost discovers a terrifying "virus". This virus is interesting in that the make-up department does a really great job with it. They make it look scary and make the sense of dread even cooler. This movie is great, but "the fog" is still a little scarier.

Great work of Fiction...

This is a great film, and has about as much connection to reality as "Shakespeare in Love" also starring Joseph Fiennes. However embellished, the story line is compelling, the action thrilling, and the scenery -- English. The cinematography is lucious. The cast is superb.
The thing I find unforgiveable about this film is the rewriting of role of the Earl of Leicester (Fiennes). Leicester was Elizabeth's close friend, and maybe even her lover. Their relationship did not end until he died. He was her most loyal subject. The truth is more compelling than the fiction in his case.
Elizabeth relied on Leicester all of his life. She made him 'Master of the Horse' and he was her closest confidente. Many believe his early death was partly owing to her overworking her good friend. He never betrayed her, he only wanted to marry her. But Elizabeth did not trust marriage, and why should she. Her own mother (Anne) and her cousin (Catherine Howard), were both executed by a jealous husband --Elizabeth's father, Henry the VIII.
Much of the story line in this film is drawn from real events surrounding Elizabeth's accendancy to the throne. As a protestant in a catholic world, Elizabeth had many enemies. Some of the extreme dangers she faced are chillingly shown in this film, although I do believe Mary of Guise, so wonderfully played by the French actress Fanny Ardant lived a bit before Elizbeth's time.
Cate Blanchett deserved every accolade she received for her portrayal of the young Elizabeth. As nearly as I can tell from the historical material I have read, Elizabeth was a great deal like Blanchett's screen portrayal.
Elizabeth became the "Virgin Queen" to her subjects, not so much because of her celibacy (which may or may not have been a fiction) but because her people were "Mary Worshippers" and needed a diversion away from their affinity for the Blessed Virgin Mary of the Roman Catholic church (who some historians believe was used to divert "pagans" from The Goddess of the Celtic religion.)
The most visually stunning scenes in the film take place near the end when Elizabeth dons the white face paint and jewels seen in the Armada portrait. It is clear this queen has become a Goddess.

The Best Movie of the Year!

This movie had enough love to make boys' skin crawl, enjoy fighting to make girls' turn their head and enough to make adults fall out of their chair. There were quite a few jokes that would go over a kid's head, aside puns or poking fun at another movie scene. Even though it has some mush it's great for all audiences and it does make a good point that I think will miss too many people.

Apes Rule!

I really enjoyed this "remake" of the classic movie-Planet of the Apes! I thought that Bruce Willis and Demi Moore gave a truly remarkable performance. The roles they portrayed as the infamous Dr. Zeus and Zira were extremely refreshing. I was quite impressed with the way they "trained" all the apes. Their speech sounded so authenic. Isn't it amazing how they taught the apes to speak like humans? Wow! The only time I've seen apes speak that well...was in the movie-"CONGO"! I love all flicks with monkeys, apes and gorillas. They are such deicious creatures. Mel Gibson & Richard Burton out did themselves on this "awesome" masterpiece!!

Fantastic Movie, but the extras are lacking

If you love this movie like I do you'd probably want to see a whole lot of cool extras and scenes that they took out of the movie. Well, the movie still rocks, but the extras are lacking. The deleted scenes are alright, but you can see why they were pulled out of the movie. If you're just looking at this for the movie itself, go for it. This is easily one of my favorite movies. Kevin Spacey is fantastic and everyone else adds a unique humor to an otherwise serious movie. So buy it for the movie, not the extras.
