HBO drops the (alan) ball

What does HBO think its doing?!
After blowing our minds with an impressive dvd set, HBO has seen fit to follow it up with...
a coffee table book.
Let me reiterate: a coffee table book.
A coffee table book about fictional characters containing their fictional journal entries, fictional artwork, and I presume, some fictional e-mails and such.
Look, I love the Fishers as much as the next guy, but a collectors book is something you whip out when the series is a long-cancelled and wistful bit of neo-nostalgia and you have literally NOTHING ELSE UP YOUR SLEEVE!
Get season 2 out on DVD already! And for that matter, when will we be seeing season 4? HBO is so busy whipping up cool lifestyle accessories that it doesn't seem to notice that people are starting to forget all about it.
Is SFU falling victim to contract negotiations and boardroom-concept cool? That'd be sad, because the quickest way to ruin something cool is to try too hard to make it cool.
Hey, HBO! Lay off the baseball hats and the desk clocks and get back to the matter at hand. The show, remember?

Underrated Powerhouse of a movie - DO NOT MISS !

this movie is riveting, to say the least. But it became even more so when I realized I was living in the same town that it happened in, and not only that, that I was about a mile away from where the actual murder took place. of course, the atrocity occured way before I was even a concious being, thank god. Keep the memory of the girl who lost her life alive, and see this movie.

The Vampire Who Came In From The Cold

When I first encountered Ultraviolet I was afraid it was going to be another shoot-em-up vampire-killer flick, but was pleasantly surprised to see that the vampire premise was just an excuse to pump some blood into the dead genre of the Cold War drama. I couldn't help but notice parallels between UV and the great BBC Cold War epics like Jean LeCarre's 'Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy' and 'Smiley's People' (ESPECIALLY the bridge scene at the end).
You probably will not like Ultraviolet if you are not a fan of sci-fi, horror or British programming. Some viewers may find the episodes involving pedophilia and abortion to be in poor taste.
Interesting plot, great score, good (British) acting

Change of pace in time for Elvis!

"Frankie and Johnny" is based on the old song about two lovers where Johnny is on a losing streak and decides he can change his luck with Nellie Bly. A jealous Frankie shoots her man because "he was doin' her wrong". This movie is sort of based on the song. Everything is true except the shooting part in the end, but it comes very close to actually happening. "Frankie and Johnny" is quite enjoyable no matter how "obscure" you people might find it. It's a real top-notch and every Elvis fan must see it. By the way, we need more reviews on Elvis' movies and music please.

Star Trek Entrerprise - Personal Log

I would like to begin this review by stating that I own every Star Trek DVD including TOS, TNG, DS9, and Voyager (and have watched them all multiple times), so I feel I am a somewhat informed reviewer. Before purchasing this DVD set, I had never before seen a single episode of Enterprise (since I did not have UPN during the first two seasons, and didn't wish to begin the series mid-run, I chose to wait for the DVD release). I was very disappointed to hear of the series cancellation, and as a result was somewhat skeptical about the series prior to the DVD release. Now, after having watched the first season, here is my opinion to this newest addition to the Star Trek universe.

First of all, this series had the best pilot episode so far in the franchise. I was very impressed with Broken Bow, and after watching, much of my initial skepticism was quickly dismissed. Secondly, it has been my experience that all modern Star Trek takes around 3 seasons to hit its stride, and subsequently improves. Having only seen the first season of Enterprise to date, I can only say that this series' first season is quite good. Next, it is notable that the character development, casting, set design, and writing are all really good in this series. I was very happy with all these aspects of the first season.

My ONLY complaint about this show is the opening theme song. The Enterprise theme song is HORRIBLE. If it wasn't for the fast forward button on my DVD remote, I believe I might go mad (once I didn't make it to the remote in time, and I actually blacked out as a result of overexposure to the bad music). I loved the music in all of the original series, and have no idea what possessed the makers of star trek to have theme music that sounds like contemporary gospel music (yes, it's really that bad).

All in all, just fast forward through the bad theme music, and you will have the opportunity to truly wonderful addition to the star trek franchise. Also, as a side-note in case anyone from UPN reads this, after the cancellation of Enterprise, I have made it a point to never to watch anything on UPN (not that it's really that hard considering Star Trek was their only good programming).

Top ten list

Dont miss it! Superbly cast and sensitively directed, this moving adaptation of the Booth Tarkington novel of the same name is splendid. It is unfortunate that the director and star were forced by studio heads to tack on the "happy ending" in the film. We don't quite know what happens to our heroine at the end of the book, which is in keeping with how she needfully undergoes change and realizes her character flaws. Surely, Miss Hepburn must have loved making this one. It is a human odyssey that is heart-breaking and honest. Hats off to Mr. Tarkington for a marvelous story. Do not miss it. It is early film-making at its best.

Dillon is bad to the bone

loved this movie with a fire. Im a huge fan of Matt Dillon's work and he gives probably the best performance of his career and he hasnt topped it yet. he plays a druggy and he has a girlfriend played wonderfully by Kelly Lynch and he has two friends, James LeGros and Heather Graham and he also has a cop on his ass played nicely by James Remar. later a stealing of drugs goes bad and Graham kills herself so Dillon wants to rehabilitate and start over with his life and he checks in and he finds out one of his former teachers is going there. Max Perlich also stars as a dimwitted drug dealer. powerful anf funny. the bet scene is where that guy comes out of his house and shoots the cop on the ladder

Best if you've lived in Africa

This movie is funniest if you've lived in Africa! The situations are so close to reality that you can't help falling off your chair... I've seen it more than ten times and never tire of it. Even funnier is it doesn't pull any "funny business" -- they could all be true!

Amazing...

If your reading this review and thinking of viewing this film for the first time don't take the easy road and not see it becasue some people diden't like it. If your going to make an opinion on this movie adleast see it, hey you might like it. The basic plot of this movie is a vision of the future from the 70's by the great (but late) mr. Kubrick in which violence runs wild through the slums of the world. Clans of yong men seeking "ultra violence" reak havok on random prey for fun and than sit back and enjoy a "moloko plus" at the moloko milk bar. If you take a good look at this movie (not the somewhat tacky 70's take on the future) this movie does not stray to far from what our society is somewhat falling into. Gangs, violence, victims, drugs(moloko), all things that are part of gang violence today. This movie dosen't glorify anything it just tells it from a neutral position, the viewers choose there favored side as the movie progresses. Either way, love it or hate it, this is infact a classic movie and should be viewed by anyone and everyone.
