Great good as the original!!!

This is the basic story: there's a mid-air collision involving a small plane and a commercial jetliner. The pilot of the small plane is killed, and the 747's copilot and engineer are also killed on impact. The surviving pilot is left too injured to fly the plane, so chief flight attendant Karen Black is tasked with flying the aircraft. The acting in this movie can be a little melodramatic, but most of the characters are well played, especially by Karen Black. The special effects are good for their day, and the storyline is well acted. All in all, this is a great sequel. Where the original was great in acting and maybe a better storyline, this movie made up for it in the special effects area and a few notable performances. good as the original!!!

If you like Hero and Crouching tiger you will find this along the same theme. Much of the directorial angle focuses on rich colour, textures and movement to project the story as much as dialogue and action. Slow sequence and microfocus are techniques Zhang likes to use much as for other films he has donw. A beautiful film about love, loss and betrayal, as usual Z-Zhang is great.

Looks great, and digital editing has improved already good effects

Apart from those who want everything to stay the same just for the sake of staying the same, everyone will appreciate the digital editing that Lucas did on these. Everything done improved the films.

Simply the best

I went to the July 11th concert in Dayton, which had to be the best rock concert I had ever been to. The raw energy of the band and the great singing of Crow made for an unforgetable night.
And what is just so cool is that now that great night is captured on DVD and I can relive the whole thing over and over. The DVD captures the energy from the concert -- so if you like Rock and Roll -- you'll like this CD!

My Favorite Movie

This was my first DVD ever...I rented the movie over a long weekend once and saw it about 100 times and It's still amazing. I never tire of watching it. Anyway, it's obvious why the deleted scenes were deleted, but they do provide some background info that isn't really given in the final movie. It's a good teen movie and while I wouldn't recommend it to really young kids, and the plot line is basically nonexistant, it's fairly hilarious. It's got a really great soundtrack, too and a great setting.I definitely recommend it!

Who Needs Big FX?

Alot of these reviews whined about how this movie only had one or two special effects-ridden scenes. so let's get something straight:a movie doesn't have to have big CGI numbers with realistic digital sound to be a good movie. I originally wanted to see this movie because I thought it was going to be a big action/sci-fi/thriller, but I was far from disappointed when I heard the sniffles coming from around the theater. I aboslutely loved this movie because it had honorable characters and some great gut-wrenching drama. And these people who say "An asteroid's gonna hit Earth and you're gonna die; get over it": how heartless are you people? If you see a four-year-old little girl playing with a LONG straw blissfully unaware that she is about to die; if you can see this and say 'big deal', how heartless are you?

Like the books, this is some awesome stuff!

They say never to judge a book (or DVD) by it's cover, but i am awfully tempted to give this thing a lower score due to the horrendous box art. geez, something better would have been a wide shot of all the characters or something. but if you look under the nastiness that dwells on the surface, you find a pretty, shiny disc inside! oh joy! your cash was not wasted! pop into your dvd player and prepare yourself for one of the greatest mangas of our time. the perfect blend of comedy, romance, and stuff, this is simply a masterpiece. however, i suggest you read the manga first, then watch this. It's interesting to see just how much they changed, and how much is similar. if you never liked any sort of anime, get this, some horror anime, and a little gundam and prepare to be transformed into a cosplayin' con-visitin' geek.

can't i give more than 5 stars?

when a friend and i saw this movie in the theatre, we spent several hours afterward talking about it, discussing it.
the plot is unable to be summarized, so i will not even try.
"donnie darko" is a movie filled with themes, symbols, and wonderfully wicked humor. everything in the movie is deliberately placed. upon second and even third viewing, the viewer sees more and more into the movie, understands more about the themes, why ceratin characters were placed and what they represent.
this movie is dark, haunting, beautiful, humorous, poignant, and more.
and with one of the funniest filmed lines of 2001 ("i am beginning to question your commitment to SparkeMotion!"), "donnie darko" is an absolute must-see.

Smart and Creative

Not privy to the reality behind the movie as I have seen reference to in previous reviews, I found this film to not only be a somewhat creative adaptation of the Arthurian legends, but also a very smart one. Certain dynamics are not given the weight they deserve, but, as I saw this film in conjunction with a college class on Arthuriana, it was easy to notice several subtle allusions and modernized twists that bring the movie to a level a bit beyond it's fairly obvious examination of the search for personal utopia. It might be occasionally cheesy, but only the most ignorant of viewers should find it laughable.
