Chungking Express - movie DVD cover picture
Great film, obviously not for everyone

If you have any passion for the art cinema, any affinity for the French new wave and any tolerance for a non-static camera, then there is a good chance you will like or love Chungking express. To fault this movie for having "no plot"(and by the way, it certainly did have a plot - just not one in the classical hollywood mould) seems quite ridiculous to me. There are many categories of film - hollywood narrative, art cinema and experimental to name a few. Wong Kar Wai is quite obviously attempting to make a film in the tradition of new wave auteurs and independents like Godard and Cassavettes. To fault a film in one category for not living up to the conventions of another is akin to my complaining that a grapefruit doesn't taste much like watermelon or that a documentary about giraffes didn't have any wild boar in it. Do NOT buy or rent CK Express, expecting it to be just like a Tarantino film.

Sigmund is back.

This is a great dvd, and Rhino did a much better job than with the H.r Pufnstuf dvd. These episodes are funny and represent the series well. The menu is very easy to navigate, and the picture looks great. My favorite characters are Burp and Slurp, and they're at their funniest here. The interview is very funny, and there's even an advertisement for a submarine ride. Pick it up today, you'll be glad you did!

Superb. Buy it!!!

First off, the bad points. The beautiful opening song will only be available on Episode 1 on first disc. The Closing songs are spaced so you will get it once every 2 eposides.
The video quality is much better than anything else I have seen, though I haven't seen the Japanese LD imports.
Had it not for the decision to cut out the opening and closing, the set will have gotten 5 stars.

Buffy Season Seven

Everyone says that season six and 7 were the worst seasons. I disagree. Yeah the characters werent written the same as they were in the first 5 seasons. But things change. In real life people change so it was time for change to happen in the newer seasons. The characters cant stay the same as they were in the highschool years. I think every year was great but i think season 6 and 7 were the best because everyone has grown from there kiddie images. The show represents what happens to everyday life. And im sure no one is always happy and never have problems. it was time for somethin new and joss pulled it off great.

Great! No other way to say it.

More fun than ten barrels of monkeys, this movie is escapist entertainment at its sublime best. Outstanding humor, action, soundtrack, memorable performances from a great cast, and tight direction by John Carpenter combine for a terrific film. I've seen it many, many times, and there is something new to discover with every viewing. Highly recommended. Enjoy!

The Outer Limits - The Original Series, Season 1 - movie DVD cover picture
Abducted By Aliens!

Executive producer Leslie Stevens created a show absolutely unique in the annals of television history, when he came up more than a third of a century ago with The Outer Limits. The vast majority of its episodes concerned alien abduction, which wasn't popularly discussed for about another two decades. Those few stories that didn't deal with that subject dealt instead with first contact scenarios, and did so in highly intelligent and mature fashion. Stevens was himself a second generation military intelligence man, whose father was an MIT graduate admiral and the inventor of airplane arresting gear on aircraft carriers, begging the question of how many of Outer Limits' stories were derived from actual intelligence files on the UFO subject.
The scripts are all highly literate, and genuinely poetic. The guest stars, almost all at that time virtual unknowns, include a roster of now-famous names: Cliff Robertson, Robert Culp, David McCallum, Robert Duvall, Carroll O'Connor, William Shatner, Martin Sheen, Leonard Nimoy, Bruce Dern, Gloria Grahame, and Sally Kellerman, to name but a few. Famous early film star Miriam Hopkins even lent her presence to "Don't Open Till Doomsday," as a woman gone mad in lifelong service to an evil alien abductor. Even the lesser entries spotlighted unique talents in fabulous performances, such as Joanna Frank in the role of a psychopathic invader attempting to create a hybrid human species with her own kind in "Zzzzz," and Richard Ney - later famous for his own financial show, The Ney Report, on CNN - as an alien tutor of gifted Earth children, toward the purpose of serving as an invasion vanguard, in "The Special One."
Outer Limits served as a springboard in high places: Harvard's drama department once performed the semi-prophetic OL script "O.B.I.T.," about paranoiac government self-monitoring and spying, and Ronald Reagan twice used OL plots and phrases in his speeches, the "anti-weapon" of "The Bellero Shield" being his own term for the SDI Star Wars defense shield, and his proposition for extraterrestrial invaders uniting the U.S. and U.S.S.R. being the subject of "The Architects of Fear."
Aside from all these fascinating observations, the show itself - simply as a production - was superior. OL's moody, stark black and white cinematography is now legendary. The music scores, from Dominic Frontiere's and Harry Lubin's majestic opening theme strains to Robert Van Eps's unsettling melodramatic chords, was so effective that it was recycled in part by at least two other T.V. series - The Rat Patrol and The Invaders - and a small handful of now lesser-known horror movies.
This is a series simply not to be missed by any genuine student of sci-fi or horror cinema, or those more interested in intelligently examining the serious real-life questions of extraterrestrial contact.

I Dub Thee Sir Lancelot, Richard Gere

Ah, the knight in shining armor, doth thy Richard Gere play, and play he, his lady fair, well...Sean Connery is no slouch either. Excellent acting and action packed movie... It has all the ingredients for a romance and enough action and war to keep any man busy watching, too. Hmmm, someone stole my video so alas, I am here buying another one. I have not met anyone who has seen First Knight that has not loved the movie. Enjoy. ~Teresa King
