Great approach to Paco

This DVD has great quality in both sound and video. One of the things that makes me appreciate it the most is the fact that it is one of the very few DVDs featuring Paco de Lucia available in this continent. The documentary is rather short. It is, of course, a documentary, and not a concert video, but I guess that most of us are craving to see Paco in action. There are so many great concerts that could be revived by remastering and bringing them to DVD.
By the way, there is new double DVD featuring Paco's biography and some complete concerts, including Aranjuez. It is called "Francisco Sanchez - Paco de Lucia". The bad thing is that it has only been released for PAL. Come on guys! Bring Paco de Lucias's duende to the rest of the world!!!

The Sound of Music

This movie combined a very captivating and multi dimensional story . Indeed , this movie is much more than a simple love story , but it is much more than a sad chapter in the middle of the war . This film reached and developed its own profile due precisely its kinetic flexibility and brilliant engaging charm , keeping in mind several fundamental factors.
Obviously the personal charisma of Julie Andrews who somehow was the british answer of the lovely Audrey Hepburn . Andrews owned her own charm : radiance , sweetness and beauty in the purest british mood .
The absorbing and magnetic presence of Christopher Plummer , a very gifted actor who actually is giving a towering and recognized performance in Broadway .
The rest of the cast was a goldness triumph . Who can forget those lovely kids ?
The admirable direction and the spectacular landscapes were too undeniable elements who added its contribution for this eternal picture .
A film to enjoy over and over again!

Trust me, if you're a Steve Winwood fan...'ll want this just for the incredible opener CAN'T FIND MY WAY HOME. I have a copy of this show and it's wonderful. It's beautiful. It's Steve Winwood and that tells anyone who knows anything about great rock music all they need to know.

Other highlights include DEAR MR. FANTASY, LOW SPARK, BACK IN THE HIGH LIFE, and DIFFERENT LIGHT from the last album, "About Time"...tho' to be honest, this is a show full of highlights.

One of the greatest voices in rock, if not the greatest, and a master of the Hammond organ and quite the guitar player, Winwood is one of those artists who personifies quality musicianship and a level of professionalism few other artists match.

I'm a big, big fan...if you can't tell.

In space, they can't hear you scream!

The space driller Nostromo and its crew of 6 are finishing their mission and returning to the earth. But their return is cut short when an incomprehensible message is received from a nearby planet. Upon landing there, a dormant alien craft is discovered. Inside they discover a nest of eggs and pick up an unwanted stowaway. They get all this unwanted strife for going against their mission... or did they?

ALIEN is a phenomenal film with a creepy storyline, great performances and an unearthly production design. The film kicks in after the alien has infested the ship, turning what looks like a science fiction film into a space bound haunted house. That is one of the films greatest strengths as one by one, the crew is eliminated. The hodge-podge crew was hired for ore drilling operations, not alien extermination. The strongest chance for survival sits with Ripley (Sigourney Weaver in her signature role) as she has the brains, brawn and willpower to win the day even as the ship is dying.

Director Ridley Scott (Gladiator), does an amazing job of capturing the `life' of the ship adding an organic quality to everything. The Nostromo has a communication center (brain) and a central hub, or heart, where all of the passages extend. All of these passages lined with vein piping and the sound of liquid surges, the blood of the ship. This organic quality also allows for an alien organism to hide, and it does. It remains hidden for most of the film. As Spielberg did with JAWS, the creature's presence is made in more ways than physical sightings. The creature design, and many of the films other set pieces were designed by H.R.Geiger, whose high-contrast bio-machine look adapts well to the screen. It is masterfully recreated on screen.

This ALIEN (followed by 3 and a half sequels) is a cornerstone in Science Fiction and Horror and is well transferred onto this special edition DVD that is a must own for fans of the films.

Defies common sense

I fail to understand why this great show has not been released on DVD. It was the longest running police drama in television history. The 12 seasons would be a cash cow for the studio. Book it, Viacom!

Great transfer and CORRECT aspect ratio of a work of art

A lot of [people] complain about the transfer not being in widescreen? Virtually every film made up to 1953 is the same size as your TV. Widescreen aspect ratios were not available in 1941. So buy the pristine new transfer and enjoy it with the assurance that nothing has been cropped out. That said, this film is a work of art. Art is open to many interpretations, emotions, and feelings. Not everyone can go into a gallery and pick the same painting and call it their favorite or the best. True, "Kane" was named the greatest film of all-time by the AFI and that can certainly be debated. Do I think it is the best of all time? Not completely. But I do find it interesting that it is in just about every film director's top ten list. That is perhaps it's greatest influence.

The first film noir in technicolor!

This classic film noir, based on the best-selling novel by Ben Ames Williams, has been wonderfully restored to its original glory in this outstanding FOX studio classics dvd. The breathtaking color cinematography (which won an oscar) has never looked so awesome, and virtually all age-related flaws with the original print have been fixed.

Gene Tierney plays Ellen, a stunningly beautiful woman who marries a famous writer, Richard Harland (played by Cornel Wilde). Ellen loves her husband so intensely that she'll let nothing and no one destract Richard from her. Richard soon realizes that something is very wrong with his wife, but when he asks Ellen's mother, he gets the naive reply,"There's nothing wrong with Ellen. It's just that she loves too much." Talk about the understatement of the year!

Richard's younger brother, Danny, is crippled and craves attention from him almost as much as Ellen. When Ellen can't get rid of him peacefully, she "accidentally" lets Danny drown while watching calmly from a nearby boat, in one of the most chilling scenes from any film noir ever made! But even with Danny out of the picture, Ellen sees that her nice step-sister (played by the lovely Jeanne Crain) is getting more and more attention from Richard. Richard is also becoming more and more detatched from his devoted wife.

Eventually, Richard learns the full truth about his sinister, selfish wife, but when he finally leaves her, she proves to have one last evil trick up her sleeve. To reveal any more would spoil the ending, but I can assure you that the movie ends great and is a real gem from the golden years of film noir. Gene Tierney gave a great, oscar-nominated performance that only furthur heightened her star status, and Cornel Wilde, Jeanne Crain, and Vincent Price (who plays Ellen's rejected fiance) are all terrific as well. The best bonus features on the dvd are the commentary by Darryl Hickman and Richard Schickel, and Movietone news footage showing Gene Tierney and many other stars at the premier of "Leave Her to Heaven." Highly recommended.
