Dragon Ball Z:Androids Box Set - movie DVD cover picture
Great Set. New characters.

This saga takes place after the trunks saga. Androids come to west city and since the Z fighters were informed already they are waiting for them. Yamcha is the first to encounter them and his energy is absorbed. Goku fly's off with them to an island and fights android 19. His disease that he was warned about takes effect and he starts to lose. Luckily Vegeta steps in and takes control. He is now a super saiyan. Trunks also comes back and tells them that the androids that have seen are not the ones that are in his world. The other android is actually Dr. Gero and he must go and activate android 17 & 18. They kill him and go off on their own. Vegeta catches up with them and fights 18 but loses. They fly off and they decide to drive to gokus house. This saga is great because we get to see vegeta be a super saiyan for the first time. We also get to see some great fight scenes. Like always this is a must have for the fans.

Dawson's Creek - The Complete First Season - movie DVD cover picture

This show is by far one of those shows that keeps you interested. You watch one show and you have to see what happens the following week. The lives of teens are interesting because the typical viewer is a teen. The lives of Dawson, Joey, Pacey, and Jen ultimately relate to the lives of its viewers. The reality of falling in love with your best friend and the troubles of crossing that line between friendship and significant partners. This first season started it all and if you love it now you can't miss any episode.

Excellent Movie - Excellent DVD

I couldn't wait for The Abyss Special Edition to be released on DVD. I already have the Special Edition Widescreen released on VHS in 1995 with the 10 minute featurette on the making of The Abyss. But as soon as I bought the DVD - I went home to watch it. You can choose to watch the theatrical version or the Special Edition with 28 minutes of additional footage. The commentary is visable via subtitles in the black bar. Which is great. For anyone who hasn't already seen this movie - it's an action-adventure/sci-fi/romance. Basically it's for everybody.
Ed Harris play Bud Brigman, the toolpusher on an underwater drilling platform designed by his soon-to-be-ex-wife, Lindsey (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio). A US submarine sinks near Cuba & the Navy enlists the help of the workers on the drilling rig in a rescue attempt. Four Navy SEALs are sent down to supervise this mission. Headed by Lt. Coffey, played by Michael Biehn. Too bad that Coffey suffers the effects of HPNS and begins to go a little over the edge.
All this and oh yeah, there seem to be some unidentified underwater flying objects. Of course only Lindsey seems to see the & Coffey thinks they're Russian.
This movie is full of conflicts, romance, action and adventure & is one of my favorite movies. This DVD is just full of extras that I haven't even fully explored yet. Just a few are a 59 minute documentary on the making of The Abyss as well as a 10 minute featurette. There are stills, cast historys, storyboards and anything else you could ever possibly want to know about this movie. This is a must buy DVD. 20th Century Fox takes it's time and puts out first rate DVD's. The Abyss, Fight Club & Aliens are just a few examples of this. If you do enjoy The Abyss Special Edition - try these others.

Come On KISS, Where's The Good Stuff ?

KISS is one of my favorite bands of all time, I enjoy the music, the merchandise, and there home video releases. KISS is one of those bands that need to re-release all of there previous home videos and put them on DVD. I really enjoyed Extreme Close-Up and KISS My A$$ and I would like to see those on DVD. I would also like to see "KISS Meets The Phantom At The Park" get the special edition treatment cause I know it was kind of tacky but you have to admit it was cool. What I would also like to see a video collection too. They should release a Box-Set of there live shows for the 70's/80's/90's.

The Royal Tenenbaums (The Criterion Collection) - movie DVD cover picture
The First Great American Movie of the New Century!

THE ROYAL TENNENBAUMS is brilliant! It's a quirky and vastly entertaining movie, that's not for everyone, especially if you don't have something of a literary background to begin with.
The movie is like something Woody Allen should have done around the time he was drifting into "serious" stuff like INTERIORS. It's as if he'd decided to base a script on the characters of J.D. Salinger, and it's a far better achievement than that depressing lot of nonsense! I read all of Salinger's work in order about 15 years ago, and wanted to kill myself when I was finished. (I'll never read it again, that's for sure)
I usually can't tolerate either Gwyneth Paltrow or Ben Stiller, neither of whom I think deserves their careers. They are muted and just fine in this treat. It's the marvelous performance of Gene Hackman, however, that makes it worth every moment in the theatre. I didn't care for RUSHMORE at all, but I think THE ROYAL TENNENBAUMS should win Best Picture. Those fools at the Academy don't recognize talent and style anymore, so it will get zilch. After all, last year they gave a Best Actress Oscar to hair and teeth. Along with SHREK and MONSTERS, INC. this is the best thing I've seen this year. I'd lost faith in American Cinema, except for Animation, but now I'm starting to change my mind. To Wes Anderson, I say, More, soon, please.

The First Snow of Winter - movie DVD cover picture
Great video the kids love it!

This is a wonderfully warm, endearing and funny story about a little duck who gets knocked out of the sky by an airplane, during his family's annual flight south for the winter. He meets a wonderful animal "Voley" (I think it might be a mole)who loves to riverdance and teaches him how to prepare for the winter. There's riverdancing with the sheep, teasing squirrels so they can throw down nuts for the duck to hoard, a couple of chase scenes with a fox, friendship and laughter. The music is warm, soft and uplifting. Sean the duck is lovable. His wonderment at everything that Voley introduces him to is believable and refreshing. My almost 3 year old daughter claims it's her favorite movie, and I really do believe her. It's such a sweet movie, that your heartstrings will feel a tug or two throughout. There are no really bad scenes, just a fox chase my daughter loves, and a very happy ending.

Grand Canyon - movie DVD cover picture
Send lawyers, guns and money . . .

Let me tell you right off the bat, I think this is an excellent movie. No one overacts, no one steals scenes, no one is more self important than the others, and all converse easily with his or her counterpart. It was really panned by NYT and a whole host of others but there's a message here that we missed then and now, thirteen years later, is significantly more important.

I teach a Leadership class at a local college and I show the first 20 minutes of Grand Canyon just for the scene with Simon arriving on the darkened streets of West Inglewood. You know the one I mean. "Are you the one I should be talking to?"

I think Kasdan was speaking from his heart sort of like Davis after he is shot. We need to take a stand. Simon says to the gangbangers, "you may not know this but things aren't supposed to be this hard." And Claire says to Mack, " . . maybe this is your miracle."

We pass eachother on the street and have a chance to deliver random acts of kindness and mercy. Often instead we take the route that will give us the most "feel" and the most bang for our buck. Simon asks Mack why he is pursuing him and Mack says because he doesn't want to take a chance that he's supposed to do something. Random acts of kindness. Thinking of the consequences of your acts. Not turning your back on people places or things because it's an inconvenient time. Hell. It's always an inconvenient time.

Mary McDonnell is fantastic; Danny Glover is brilliant; the supporting cast fantastic. You could see Big Chill in it but in Grand Canyon, there's a message for all of us. 5 stars. Could be 10.

The Magic of the Last Unicorn

I can still remember the first time I saw the Last Unicorn, years ago, at someone's house. Whenever I think of it, I remember a side view of the screen showing the Unicorns in the ocean and the Bull, with the music playing. As time passed, I forgot the name of the movie and what it was about except for the Bull and the Unicorn. That is, until I helped a friend clean her room and found an old copy of it. That feeling was like falling in love all over again. The Last Unicorn was the one thing that got me interested in fantasy, and I can guarantee that I will never, ever forget this movie.

This movie was great but sad.

As a 60 year old grandfather from the east coast I knew nothing of Selena until I saw the movie. I was immediately struck with the quality and range of her voice. While in San Antonio a few week later I bought all of her CD's I could find. Today, even though I do not understand a word of Spanish, I play her music every day and never tire of it. At least once a day I say "I just don't believe that someone would kill such a beautiful talent." Also, as a father of 4, my heart goes out to the family.

How many more times can this DVD be released-then pulled

OK-I no longer have a clue what the hell is going on with Anchor Bay. They are so hit and miss that I can't even keep up with them anymore. They act like this is the ONLY movie in their vaults and treat it like George Lucas editing on a bad day. I have now 3 Anchor Bay versions of this film and really don't need anymore. They spend all their time on this film, releasing it,pulling it,releasing it,pulling it. If it wasn't put out so half-assed in the first couple of runs then they wouldn't have to do any more releases. In my opinion YES the box set is enough to be the DEFINITIVE collection. If you don't own any version of this film then YES please pick this up. If your like me then WHY do you need to plunck down more loot for a film I have in one form or the other.Anchor Bay has continually drop the ball and from what I heard had one of the Fn execs on the commentary???why??what did you have to do with this film whatsoever???Anchor Bay has a great catalog but they act like some stupid rich kid who doesnt want to share. Im going to PASS on this set. If you already picked up the theatrical DTS version that Anchor Bay released back in MArch/April then your set. Have a nice day...
