Great Movie!

I finished reading the first book hours before I saw the movie, and I was amazed at how close the actually stuck to the story in the book. The movie does go a little into the second book, so make sure you have read the first couple of chapters of The Two Towers!!! The acting and the scenery were amazing...the best I have seen in a long time!! This is a must see for everyone!!

I laughed so much my face hurt!

I went to this movie not expecting much, laughed all the way through, and left pleased with myself for having chosen to see it. That's the kind of movie this is, it makes you feel pleased with yourself for choosing such a gem to watch.
Toula was completely relatable as a shy, slightly awkward young woman who is struggling to come in to her own amidst her crazy/lovable Greek family. By chance she meets the lovable Ian, and the resulting romance brings together two completely different worlds.
An absolutely delightful movie that is well worth seeing more than once!

If you wanna laugh until you burst an artery buy this movie!

Even if you're not a huge fan of Monty Python's, like I am, you'll still be laughing so hard you won't be able to catch your breath for the whole 2 hours or so, trust me on this one. From my experience, this is one of THE funniest, laugh-out-loud movies there is not to mention that it's quoted very, VERY often by the people I know. No matter what your tastes in movies are you won't be able to help yourself from falling in love with Michael Palin (my personal favorite of the group), John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Terry Jones Graham Chapman and Eric Idle. I LOVE THIS MOVIE!! I've always liked the groups TV show, Monty Python's Flying Circus, but this is even better than it ever was! This movie has sight gags, inside jokes and some of THE funniest dialogue you'll ever encounter in your life. Kudos to the boys of Monty Python, you've done it again.

Excellent movie!

I first saw Seven Girlfriends on HBO late at night while on a business trip - then rented it to watch with my wife as soon as I got home. Even better the 2nd time. A very funny yet insightful movie about relationships and why they work and why they don't.
The coolest thing was - about 1/2 through the movie, Melora Hardin and Tim Daly sit down at the piano and Melora plays and sings - no unseen strings or flutes or harps in the background - just Melora, the piano, and her wonderful voice. Absolutely a top-10 of all time scene in a movie - dynamite.

Fantastic! Get it now!

I saw this one on the big screen and I can't wait for the DVD. I think it's a brilliant film and really makes finance interesting - drawing from Wall Street, especially with the main character's relationship with his father, this film makes money fun. Watch for the scene where many of the main characters are watching Wall Street on the VCR and know it by heart, line by line. This film makes you excited to know about commissions, IPOs, and the various scams present on today's stock market.
I can see it now...the incredible overfluorescence, the cramped offices, everything - there's a beautiful washed-out look to the film. I love it. Think of the Detroit sequences of Steven Soderbergh's Out Of Sight, and you've got that same kind of feeling.
I think the use of rap throughout the film is a stroke of genius. The opening lines of the film, a narration by Giovanni Ribisi, sets the tone perfectly (this is the best I can remember it): "Like Notorious B.I.G. once said, you've either got a great jump shot, or you're swinging crack rock. So I became the white-boy equivalent of a drug dealer: I became a stock broker."

Annie Hall - movie DVD cover picture
How could he have mis-read those signs?

A true work of genius. Even by Allen's own standards, this movie is a classic. So few films have Maximum Initial Impact, in that they fail to deliver maximum enjoyment on one's first viewing.
While Annie Hall certainly bears considerable repeated viewing, it is simply stunning first time through. Apart from the brilliant dialogue and character depth, it contains so many all-too-human touches. I loved the part on the first date when he asks Annie if he can kiss her before they start, just to take away the tension of will-they won't-they kiss, so that they may more easily relax and enjoy their first time out.
As a fairly linear romantic comedy, it is unsurpassed, yet there are also many surrealistic elements which give it a quality that one usually associates with European movies.
Woody Allen shoehorned so many brilliant and original ideas into Annie Hall that it is staggering to recall that they were all from the same movie. Everything from the Jew-hating grandmother to the kids in his class telling the camera what they ended up as in adult life, serve to keep you off balance, so that you never slide into a "well I can see what's coming up next" state of complacency.
Allen is a master when it comes to relationships and human failings (and strengths) and his hilarious handling of sexual interactions - "I'm just trying to work some circulation back into my jaw" - makes this one of those rare movies in which virtually everybody can find something to make you squirm and say, "Oh man, he's right".
Annie Hall is classy, it's beautiful, it is full of love, wisdom and compassion, and above all it is utterly hilarious. A breathtaking work of genius (repetition on "genius", there) from a man who has no equal in the film industry.

Star Wars is still Star Wars

No matter what any one says this movie is still Star Wars at it's best.It only had to live up to the biggest hype in movie history.Well it may not have lived up to the average movie viewers expectations but Star Wars isn't for the average movie viewer.Star Wars is for all of us out there that actually have an imagination. For those of us that left this movie not only excited by what we just saw but wondering what does Episode II have in store for us.That is what makes Star Wars better than any average Sci-Fi movie or any average movie at all for that point.Yes Jar-Jar is a terible character but Jar-Jar is not what this legacy is all about. So Lucas created one bad character in four movies.Does that mean their no good any more. The point is that Star Wars is not about one movie,it's about an on going saga and sagas have pieces and Episode I is just that.A large piece leading us into what will be the greatest story ever told!

Phone Booth - movie DVD cover picture
Intense

Phone Booth is easily one of the most intense 80 minutes in film history. Word to the wise, never pick up a ringing public telephone.
THE STORY:
Stu Shephard (Colin Farrell) is a Manhattan publicist guilty of a few things: being a somewhat dishonest businessman and lustfully fawning after a young actress, Pamela (Katie Holmes) despite being married. Little does he know that someone's been watching him lust after Pam. When Stu enters his Manhattan phone booth to talk to Pam (as has been his ritual) he's taken hostage by a psychotic sniper (Kiefer Sutherland) who's determined to make "bad men" repent for their unrighteous actions. Things go from bad to worse for Stu when he's accused of shooting a street pimp from the booth and the swat team arrives to take him into custody. Unfortunately for him, the sniper won't let him leave the booth till he confesses his sins.
THE COOL THINGS:
It amazes me that the entire movie takes place on a street corner in a phone booth - all 80 minutes of this movie. It amazes me further that the movie manages to remain engaging and enthralling. The suspense maintained by the movie is very reminiscent of Sutherland's other current big profile work, namely 24.
The sniper character voiced by Sutherland is easily the highlight of the movie. The sniper is obviously a psychotic stalker and killer. However, he is also at the same time an avenging angel with an odd sense of justice.
BEST SCENES:
Well, quite honestly, the whole movie is basically one big scene at the phone booth. At a brisk 80 minutes the movie moves along at a brisk pace and is quite honestly one big thrill ride.
THE DVD FEATURES:
Not much to write home about here. For the DVD you get the now standard director's commentary (great listen) plus the theatrical trailer for the movie.
THE VERDICT:
At a short 80 minutes "Phone Booth" is perfect viewing - a quick but intense thrill ride. Think of it like a quick high, it doesn't last very long but is worth every minute.
Highly Recommended
