Goodbye Marilyn

Despite the smiling faces on the box cover, there was realy nothing to smile about, the film itself, or the making of it. In fact a book was written about the making of this film, appropriately called 'The Making of the Misfits'. Arthur Miller wrote this for Marilyn, even as their divorce would began during the filming. Marilyn was famous for her unprofessional behavior, but in this film she took it to the limits, drugs, depression, and her general outlook made the filming of this movie over budget and late. In fact Clark Gable in an example of cruel irony had said' "That little lady is gonna end up giving me a heart attack." Gable soon died after the completion of this film. This was another blow to Marilyn who grew up with the fantasy that her father was Clark Gable.
The movie itself is sad. It must have been difficult for the director to create a movie with a plot had no real direction. The film itself brings out the vulnerability and softness of Marilyn, which is why I like it so much. The message of the film is entirely hers. The lines were her true feelings. This film can be studied like a window into Marilyn's private thoughts and feelings, a real gem for the serious Marilyn fan. Arthur had Marilyn totally in mind when he wrote this. He may have known her better than anybody, being married to her for four years. Not a box-office or casual fan favorite, but a true fan will cherish it as Marilyn's last good-bye.
On another note, the 'paddleball' scene was written in during filming. Marilyn played with it during the shooting

I Love The WIZ

Yes, the original is excellent-a true classic in every sense. But let's be modern, and culturally plural with our perspectives. Diana Ross soars, the film is lavish and urban, with the right amount of grittyness. Supporting characters are great too. It's a shame that black themed movies can't muster the same followings that a mainstream film can. When will this narrow vision cease to exist. Give black films a try, especially when they star black stars such as MISS ROSS who set the mold for entertainers of all colors!!!

Almost perfect

I can't recall the last time I've seen such a good pure comedy. Hardly a joke falls flat, the casting is spot-on, and there really isn't a single pointless scene. If you thought the trailer was funny, go see the movie--it's even funnier; if you thought it just seemed OK, go anyway--you'll be pleasantly surprised. It's probably worth it for the cameos alone.
Very impressive.

loves comedies

My wife and I both love this movie!! It has a great 1960s feel to it, back when California was still the Golden State. Doris Day, of course, is wonderful and it is great seeing her co-stars Rod Taylor, Arthur Godfrey, Dick Martin, Paul Lynde, and others. The aerospace, cold war, and Catalina Island themes bring back a lot of memories. Remember the white steamer?
With so many marginal movies transfered to DVD it is a crime that this one hasn't made it yet. Come on MGM, get with it!

A modern classic now a classic DVD!

In 1994, audiences and critics around the globe saw an animated motion picture that would become one of the highest grossing animated movies ever ( now "Finding Nemo" has took that spot), it was called " The Lion King".
It tells the coming of age story in the African safari where a young Lion cub named "Simba" is about to become king someday but his evil uncle "Scar" kills his father and Simba runs away because he feels damaged by what he's seen. He meets two lovable pals named "Timon" and " Pumbaa" who teaches him the ways of " Hakuna Matata" ( a.k.a. no worries in African) until he's a full grown lion that must avenge his father's death.
A spectacular, action packed and awesome animated motion picture that is full of emotion, laughs, and fun with great animation. The voices are superb such as James Earl Jones, Nathan Lane, Jonathan Tyler Thomas, Matthew Broderick, Whoopie Goldberg, Cheech Marin and Jeremey Irons.
The DVD is superb in every single way, it's loaded with great extras like behind the scenes, a new song that was originally cut out, deleted scenes, games and more! it's a perfect christmas gift for every DVD lover's library.

A beautiful end to a beautiful anime.....

We are brought to the touching end of one of the most beautiful and touching anime that has shown up in the states in a long time. Some people may not care for the art style, but I find it refreshing after so many other characters who start to look the same. This series touches on so much...what it means to be human, predjudice, the nature of love. You just can't help but to be moved by the plight of Jiro. Ishinomori touches on the plight of all the half American children born after WW2 using robots as a metaphor (Cyborg 009 touches on the same material) It reminds us that even though our outsides are diffrent, it is our hearts that are what make us human. The one weakness of the story is the ambiguous ending that opens the door to the unbelieveably awful Kikaider 01. Definately pick up this volume and forget the sequel.

It's great to have him back.

This is Herzog's first feature film in a while. I know he has recently moved to Los Angeles and apparently loves it. It may show in his film. This is his glossiest production to date. As opposed the the outdoors, where he is usually fond of filming, most of the action here takes place in Hanussen's Theater of the Occult. The picture is in English, which allows us the wonderful performance by Tim Roth. Herzog shows Hanussen as a kind of villain, yet he is too much like Herzog himself - someone who uses hypnosis, lies, and great imagery to put on a spectacular show.
Neophytes might be a bit put off by the overdubbing of some of the actors, but that is a trifle. It is just great to be back in Herzog-land again. Like all of his films, there is a central image that tells the whole story. In this story, it is a remarkable dream sequence of The Invincible helping his little brother over rocks (WWII) through a sea of crabs (the Nazis).

One of the Best Showes EVER!!!

Simply put, this is one of the best shows ever recorded. Its Ozzy at his prime! I have been searching for this video since the day I first saw it back in 1982 on MTV. Thank God I finally have it. This is well worth the money, great show awesome band (the only way it could have been better is if Randy Rhoades was still alive at the taping) Tommy Aldridge is awesome!! LOVE IT
