One of the GREAT Sci-Fi's... already a Cult classic!!!

This is what I call a "realistic sci-fi" about a spaceship crew who make thier living by any means necessary. These are space mercenaries who travel the galaxy... battling injustice... and committing criminal acts... the finest in Anti-Heroes!!! The writing was phenomenal, the characters were no where near Mr/Miss Perfect, thier ship was held together with spit and twine... and I loved the "Space Cowboy" theme that the show portrayed. I still don't get what everyone is saying when they start talking in Mardarin... but who cares... it gives the show a unique flavor and makes the watcher wonder about the development path of mankind that led to making this part of everyday society. As I said... it's a GREAT SHOW!!!
When I first saw the previews for this show before it aired, I thought it looked cool. Well... I was working that Friday evening, so I taped it. Awesome foresight on my part, because I taped the show from then on! Since it's cancellation, I have probably re-watched this series about 12 times (plus I lent the tapes out a few times)... but the tapes are starting to degrade a little. So...
THANK YOU for releasing this series to DVD so quickly!!!(This Brown Coat is doing his happy Snoopy dance!)

Five Buy Five

As someone who did not have the opportunity to follow Buffy on televesion, I've been anxiously awaiting each DVD release. Season 5 was worth the wait. Admittedly I was a little skeptical about the introduction of Dawn. However, her character grew on me. Speaking of new characters, I loved the addition of Glory and her assistants. As always the character interactions and plot twists were masterfully done. I can't wait for Season6!

Shag Now Or Shag Later? The Funniest Film Of The Late 1990s'

Anyone who doesn't find themselves laughing at "Austin Powers - Internation Man Of Mystery" really has issues. Okay, it not as funny as, say, "Caddyshack", but for its time period (the late 1990s'), this film was the funniest movie released.

Mike Myers' suave, bumbling secret agent creation is one of the funniest charatcers in movie history. And this film established it from the get-go. Myers also proved his talent by playing a duel role: in addition to playing Austin, he also was hysterical as his arch - nemesis, Dr. Evil.

The plot is like this. The year is 1967. And Austin Powers is the hippest, sexiest man on the swingin' scene in London. Fashion photographer by day, secret agent by night, women love him, men want to be him. When his arch nemesis, Dr. Evil, plans to take over the world, it is up to Austin and his shagadelic girlfriend (Mimi Rogers) to stop him. However, Dr. Evil escapes into space with his cat Mr. Bigglesworth and plans to return in 1997. The plan? Austin is chryogenically frozen and is thawed out in 1997. Austin is immediately clueless to the modern world. To help him adjust, he is partnered with the drop dead gorgeous Vaness Kensington (Elizabeth Hurley). As expected, Dr. Evil has returned as well, and he is now out to take over the world, this time by covering the world with liquid hot magma. Austin and Vanessa are led through a series of various and often hilarious obstacles that result in a massively hilarious climax and several bloopers.

The bonus features are great. The commentary by Myers and director Jay Roach is enlightening. This film is an absolute must have for anyone who loves to laugh.

The storyline was great and so were the actors. I, myself, just adore Eric Schweig and saw this as a good role for a hot Indian. He was quiet about his love with Alice (Jodhi May) but you could see a strong affection between the both of them when he sacrifices his own life for hers. This movie got me interested in history class just to learn more about that war. I've watched that movie so many times that I'm scared the tape will wear out. My friend Elise (also obsessed) told me the ending in the original book was quite different from the movie! Why did they do that I wonder? Anyway, I reccomend this movie to anyone over the age of ten and while you're at it get the soundtrack too. There may be only five songs repeated over and over in the actual movie but they're great! (Theres more on the soundtrack.) In conclusion, this is a movie worth getting...I miss Uncas :(

This film, which I saw when it came out, I have seen countless times since. Having read the glowing reviews below, I really can't add much other than to emphasize the haunting beauty of the music by Michael Kamen which adds so much to the emotive power of the film. Like many of the great films in movie history which when released didn't recieve the acclaim they now do, this film will surely go down in movie history as one of the greats.
It is a journey of the quiet loner with a gift, a soul who sees truth, suffers repeatedly and pays the ultimate price to benefit others -- beautiful.

Elvis - That's the Way It Is (Special Edition) - movie DVD cover picture
Warning: You go from straight to gay after this experience!

Before we go any further, I have to ask you whitch Elvis do YOU like? The fifties Elvis, the '68 black suit Elvis or Aloha-Elvis? If you like the Aloha-Elvis, and you haven't seen That's The Way It Is-Elvis, you are in for an explosion of joy when you see this film! The other two groups can throw away one star from the rating above. This means this isn't the best Elvis-experience for you, but you shouldn't miss it anyhow..

This documentary is better than 'Aloha', it's better than 'The 68' Comeback Show', it's better than 'Elvis On Tour'and definetly better than Elvis In Concert! It's the best you can get of Elvis if you want to see and listen at the same time. I think objectively the period between 1968-73 is creme-de-la-creme. But 1970 is the peak for me. New costume, new songs to sing, not only 'Suspicious Minds' and 'In The Ghetto', but also songs from other artists, like 'You've Lost That Loving Feeling', 'Just Pretend' and so on. His voice is here mature, he's extremely good looking and he shows great humor and spontaneyity. Denis Sanders did a very good job showing the way Elvis and his crew worked with new songs on rehearsals. You go from tears to chills down your spine, and that is to me a sign of quality! If this means I'm gay when I thought I was straight, I don't have no problems with that. I cry like a baby listening to Elvis-songs anytime!

The sound isn't at it's best though if you compare to the new deluxe-version of Aloha From Hawaii or the '68 comeback show. But it's good enough. It doesn't bother me.

The bottom line is: There are three DVD-films with Elvis you must have in your music-collection, 'The '68 comeback', 'Aloha' and 'That's The Way It Is'. The divine three, but the greatest of them all... Well, I think I don't have to repeat it!

The Best Documentary on a Country Artist so far

I have no hesitation in recommending this DVD -- it's probably the best documentary produced about a country artist so far. Hank's life is told intelligently through expert commentary and interviews with Hank's friends, Drifting Cowboys (eg Don Helms), family (eg Hank Jr, Hank III, Lycrecia and Jett), contemporary country artists who knew him (eg Ray Price, Billy Walker, Charlie Walker, Big Bill Lister), his second wife, Billie Jean, and people like Charles Carr. The producers have included parts of Hank's appearances on the Kate Smith Show -- and thankfully haven't overdubbed commentary over the soundtrack, so we get to hear, for example, Anita Carter singing with Hank -- as well as fascinating snippets from home movies. Thankfully, the producers have used this type of first-hand material rather than, for example, shooting album covers and having the usual lineup of modern-day Nashville stars telling us how important Hank Williams is to country music (all too often used in other documentaries).
Thanks to the producers for an intelligent and fascinating insight into the life of one of the all-time country music greats.

What cinema should be.

OK, first of all a confession: I haven't seen the DVD (nor the video), but I will. I HAVE seen the film and find it one of the most enjoyable and extraordinary movies ever produced. The film is a joyful examination of love, Elizibethan theater, and a delightful speculation on Shakespeare's creative process. The filming is breathtakingly beautiful; the actors' performances (all of them) are exemplary for their clarity, wonderful timing, and tremendous energy. The film is unique because of the way it communicates a love of theater and theater history. Obviously, not everyone loves this film, but I am so happy that it was made. I particularly enjoyed how the real people of Elizabethan theater were provided with characterizations that motivated and infused them with amazing vitality (such as the brilliant, comic, moment when Webster admits that he particularly liked TITUS ANDRONICUS). SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE is a treasure.
