Funniest Show EVER

Well, I definitely would recommend this DVD. It's like im addicted to it, you won't ever watch anything as funny as "Family Guy", and it's a shame that it was cancelled by Fox. Maybe there is some hope for the show with good DVD sales and phenomonal Ratings from Adult Swim.

Ghost in the Shell - movie DVD cover picture
It began at night, as many things do.

"Ghost in the Shell" is a personal quest for identity eerily reflected off the gritty espionage plot in cyberpunk Hong Kong. GITS is unnerving, if nothing else. Not because of any particularly gory passages (which are fairly numerous), but because of the question the film asks: Is the "I" real, or is it an illusion? Am I the same person who I was a minute ago, or am I a simple copy with the original's memories?
Motoko Kusanagi, a cybernetic member of an elite strike team, is facing a personal dilemma: is she the same person she was before her body was destroyed and her personality was instilled in a cybernetic brain? She finds herself drawn to the mysterious entity known only as the Puppet Master, an individual with a bizarrely long list of crimes, from stock manipulation, to political machinations, to mind-hacking of innocent indivuduals. Lately he seems to have taken an interest in Motoko's area of operation, possessing a diplomat's enterpreneur. Foreign Relations department seems to be taking an unhealthy interest in the case, enough to secretly bring a thermoptically camouflaged (Predator-style) individual to a top-secret lab when a lone, confused cyborg is found wandering the streets. When it reveals its frightening identity and is stolen, Motoko sees her chance to discover her true nature. This takes our heroine from a car chase to a shoot-out with a huge tank, to the final moment of lucid revelation of the argument behind the nature of self-awareness and life.
In all honesty, I was so caught up with the puzzling plot that I barely noticed the artwork, although several CG scenes did capture my attention with their mastery. On the other hand, the sound scene is a bit barren: there are voices, and some music, but the sound effects are sparse.
The "Making of GITS" part seems amateurish to the extreme, and the interviews with the grizzled creators are not at all helpful or even interesting. At least it includes the translated version of the main theme.

The whole time I watched this movie I couldn't wait for it to end so I could watch it again. The acting was perfect and the story was disturbing, compelling and overwhelming. This is the best drama I have ever seen. Buy it, Buy it, Buy it Now. You will not regret this purchase.

One of the best by far

This is still one of the best DVD transfers out there. I've had this movie on VHS for a number of years and I'm glad to get a letterboxed version of it. The scene where Bob Geldof is pounding at the wall is worth the price of the DVD. The feeling of isolation is so evident on the widescreen as he almost appears insignificant next to the wall. The songs sound so much better in surround sound, especially the part where the stuka is dive bombing Roger Water's father. The menus and all the extras are also really well done. It shows that the band oversaw the making of this DVD.

So can you make scones out of Matzah?

Man I love this show. My wife and I watch it three or four times a day in syndication and we never get tired of it. The Nanny and her lively downtown Brooklyn lifestyle meets her employers proper English household and the clashes were only overshadowed by the laughs.

They came from different worlds in every way - social but they found lots in common including love for the three kids and for each other. It was a great series.

Best novel adaptation I've ever seen

I had given up hope that Hollywood could treat good books well (with a few exceptions such as Clockwork Orange and the World Accorping to Garp). In recent years, Seabiscuit particularly confused me (why change characters' ages or introduce new ones to an already compelling story?). I was floored by the novel House of Sand and Fog and thoroughly enjoyed this movie. Every performance is extraordinary -- all three leads, as well as Behrani's wife. Hats off to Andre Dubus for holding off to work with a director who would be faithful to his novel and true to the ending. I advise anyone to read the amazing book first and then see the movie. You'll thoroughly enjoy both.

The Greatest Film Ever Made

I cannot even begin to describe the excellence this film posesses, radiates, and emanates. This is Bergman's epic masterpiece, a wonderful tale of two siblings who try to cope with their death of their father and their mother's marriage to an ultrareligious ogre through magic and illusion. It has within what is probably the best art direction in the history of cinema, but be forewarned that this is no costume romp. Instead it is a deftly woven tale of a genuinely loving family and their resistance, in the end, to evil. Great performances, production design, writing, and especially directing make this film, truly, the best picture in the history of cinema. I would not say that easily either. Please see this movie, your mind will grow because of it.

Chronicling The Passing of the Years

This was one of the most heart-wrenching movies you'll ever see: at times whimsical, funny, sentimental, and sad. Sort of like life.
Milius manages to do what some of us dream about -- which is to capture the most poignant times in our lives, times we think we'll always remember when they happen but fade into hazy memory later.
Surfing is used in Big Wednesday as a background for the coming of age motif, and to ultimately pose the question: can you go home again?
