Quickfix - Cardio Hip-Hop Workout - movie DVD cover picture
Fun Workout

This Hip Hop workout DVD has 3 routines, each lasting 10 minutes, plus a 4th bonus routine (also 10 minutes). None of the workout segments are intense, so if you're looking for a DVD to help you shed pounds, then this one probably isn't the best for you. On the other hand, if you're looking to work on your coordination, learn some dance steps, or have something to do on days when you don't want a hard core workout, this DVD is fantastic.

The instructor does a good job of breaking down the dance steps in counts of 8. If you get mixed up you can go back to the "life line" step, or rewind. I have few Hip Hop dance skills, but was able to pick up most of the moves probably after the 3rd viewing. The dance steps are pretty contemporary and set to good music, which is rare in workout videos. Other posters have mentioned that they find the instructor annoying, but I don't at all and think that she's a great dancer and instructor.

Smart and Funny

I admit I purchased this DVD because of David James Elliott, but I found that it was a very entertaining film as well as having an easy on the eyes cast. I laughed out loud and am glad I purchased this movie.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Full Screen Edition) (Harry Potter 1) - movie DVD cover picture
The Best Movie I Ever Saw!

It's finally here! We have been waiting for this picture for years. Pottermania has made it to the big screen. The book is better, as is normally the case; however, Chris Columbus has captured some of Rowling's magic and transported it from the minds of readers to the eyes of the Muggle population.
The cast is outstanding with Daniel Radcliffe playing the young Harry Potter. Rupert Grint is Ron Weasley and Emma Watson portrays Hermione Granger, his young Hogwart companions.
The adult actors fared pretty well themselves. Throw in great stars like Richard Harris (Albus Dumbledore) and Maggie Smith (Professor McGonagall) and add to these great supporting performances from Robbie Coltrane (Hagrid) and Alan Rickman (Professor Snape) and you have brewing some serious Oscar magic.
The movie follows the main storyline as Harry is delivered by owl to the home of his Muggle Aunt and Uncle Dursley, who become his guardians as a result of the deaths of his parents. The Dursleys neglect and abuse Harry and pamper their own son, Dudley, making Harry wish he were someplace else. The story suddenly turns dramatically when Harry is invited to Hogwarts, the school of wizardry. It is through the friendship of Hagrid and at Hogwarts that Harry discovers his true identity as a wizard. The rest of the movie is the adventure of a lifetime with Harry, Ron, and Hermione clashing with the Dark Arts, led by Voldemort.
The visual effects are phenomenal, bringing the story to life; creatures such as Fluffy, the three-headed dog, the giant ogre that is loose in the school, the goblins at Gringott's Bank, the lifesize chess pieces, and the Quidditch match to name a few.
Young viewers might be a little frightened at some of the scenes in the movie, but this picture is merely a harmless romp into the mind of JK Rowling. Pottermania will be around a while with a fifth book expected in 2002 and movie sequels to follow. Do not let your child miss out on the magic of Harry Potter. With all of these ingredients thrown into the boiling pot, one can expect a perfect potion in time for the Academy.

It's just the best

I bought this DVD a couple of years ago, and thoroughly enjoyed it. I have watched it probably 10 times at least. Then all of a sudden recently I am seeing and hearing all this hype about the 2005 Centennial Celebration of Harold Arlen's birth, and came back to Amazon to nose around. I bought Sam Arlen's CD (a tribute to his father) and was just blown away by it, and of course the songs it contains... Harold Arlen was a master, and this DVD is just an excellent documentary of his life. I also recommend you get his son's CD, "Arlen Plays Arlen: A Timeless Tribute To Harold Arlen", by Sam Arlen. It has a very nice 20 page book with it that has a some trivia quips, pictures, and lyrics.

It's a Wonderful Life - movie DVD cover picture
Be careful what you wish for.

There seems to be some sort of conspiracy in Australia to keep this film a secret. It is clear to me that "It's a Wonderful Life" is regarded as the standard Christmas eve broadcasting in the US. It seems that many Americans regard this film as worn out, in the same way as say "The sound of music" has been, through too many viewings. To the best of my knowledge it has only been broadcast once in the last ten years in OZ, (I've been informed that's not strictly true, but why spoil the story), and that time was not advertised. So perhaps I am in a better position to judge the true worth of this film, not having been overexposed. I regard it as one of my top ten of all time. The cast is fabulous. James Stewart was perfect in his central role as George Bailey. Although I would rate his performance in "Mr. Smith goes to Washington", slightly higher. The story is brilliant and the direction is immaculate. I was lucky enough to get one of the 45th anniversary copies of the re-mastered laser disc and it is a beautiful transfer. If you ever want to add this film to your collection, this is the copy to get. If you are not crying through at least half of this film, both in joy and anguish, then I think there is something wrong with you. I certainly got more out of this film than any rendition of Dickens', "A Christmas Tale". After all how many of us can empathize with a penny pinching self centered old grouch versus a good man faced with letting his family and friends down. That is the basic story after all. George Bailey has been dealt a savage blow and is contemplating suicide at his lowest ebb. It takes an apprentice angel to put it all in perspective and remind him that joy in life should never be eclipsed by any setback. Maybe those Americans out there that have not taken the time to watch "It's a Wonderful Life" in the last ten years should stop and try to recall the story. If you can't, then you should make the time to give it another chance. You may be surprised at the power it still has to move you.

The essential ingredient for any Bruce Lee collector.

I can't describe the quality and value of this collectors edition. When I purchased it I wasn't expecting much as I have been an avid fan for years but when I saw these D.V.D's my breath was taken away! The added quality due to the format is understandable but the overall improvement was amazing and beyond my expectations. I highly recommend this box set to any fan of martial arts but I also find myself telling the vast array of Bruce Lee fanatics that if they don't already own this then their collections just aren't complete! BUY IT NOW!!!!

What's not to like? The plot, the acting, the action, the special effects, the score: all were superb. I love films that not only entertain but teach. The first movie introduces you to the splendor, the wonder, and the terror of the dinosaurs. The second movie, shows how man in his greed and arrogance once again tries to turn a beautiful thing into a profit-making venture with no thought to the consequences and fails. This is a pair of movies I will enjoy over and over again.
