Freakin Hilarious

Man, this movie is awesome. I have been looking for it forever ever since I saw it late night on HBO. If you liked Friday, or All About the Benjimins, you are going to love this flick. The white dude is so funny in the way he acts, talks, and eats like a black man. You should at least rent it or give it a try. I was amazed that no one ever talked about it or even saw it. So check it out if your into a lot of laughs.

Memories from the '70's...

I was 8 when SWAT originally came out and I only watched part of one show. My parents didn't like it so I didn't get to watch it again. But my friends and I would play SWAT quite often.

Now that I have the SWAT DVD I love it. It's classic good guys are good and bad guys are bad and the good guys always win. I enjoy the team work, action sequences, and get a kick seeing the 70's fashions and cars from my childhood days.

I agree some of it is a bit corny and wooden and I think it's hilarious how they keep showing the same stock footage when the van is heading to the scene but it's no big deal to me. There's plenty of good stuff in this series. It's been fun to watch, especially since it was denied from me 30 years ago.

I do wish that they had some extra features on the DVD but there isn't. No character interviews, no background info, nothing. They don't even have scene selection, you can only choose an episode or play all the episodes - bummer. Maybe they can add some of that to the second DVD if it ever comes out.

If you get a chance to read through all the reviews here, the characters that played Luca and T.J. also entered reviews - look for them!

ER - The Complete Second Season - movie DVD cover picture
A fascinating dramatic series...

Nominated for 25 Golden Globes and 110 Emmys, including 7 for Outstanding Drama Series, ER has long been one of the best prime-time shows on television. Premiering in September 1994 on NBC, the hour-long hospital drama vividly illustrates the intensity and fast-paced stress endemic to hospital emergency rooms across America. Brought into being by Michael Crichton - famous Hollywood insider, novelist, and brains behind such films as Jurassic Park, Twister, and Timeline - ER fulfills its creator's ultimate vision (it took over a decade of pitching the show before network executives bit) for a close-to-life glimpse of the technology and the humanity omnipresent in the ER. Since its inception, many cast members have passed through the halls of ER, many of them having gone on to become big stars in Hollywood...

ER follows the exploits of a group of emergency room staff who work in a busy Chicago hospital. The show attempts to examine every detail of the ER experience. From the exhilaration of saving a life to the tedium caused by mountains of paperwork, all the highs and lows are covered. In the show's first year, a number of regular faces staffed the ER. Doctors Mark Greene (Anthony Edwards), Peter Benton (Eriq La Salle), Douglas Ross (George Clooney), and Susan Lewis (Sherri Stringfield) were regulars in the ER along with Head Nurse Carol Hathaway (Julianna Margulies) and Benton's medical student understudy (and later ER doctor), John Carter (Noah Wyle)... Any given episode tends to run multiple plot lines throughout the show, interweaving scenes in short snippets intended to heighten audience emotion and create the aura of a stress-laden atmosphere. The show's high drama, coupled with subplots of the staffers' personal lives and the display of cutting edge medical technology, combine to make ER one of most adrenaline-inducing programs in television history...

The ER (Season 2) DVD features a number of dramatic episodes including the season premiere "Welcome Back, Carter!" in which Carter arrives late for his new position in the ER while Mark gets comfortable in his new position among the senior staff. Meanwhile, the ER tries to patch up the victims of a rival gang war, and new medical school students arrive in the ER for their rotations... Other notable episodes from Season 2 include "Hell and High Water" in which Doug happens upon a young boy trapped in a drain pipe rapidly filling with water, and "A Shift in the Night" in which Mark is forced to carry the load of the ER by himself when Doug is out with whiplash and Susan is out on business...

Below is a list of episodes included on the ER (Season 2) DVD:

Episode 27 (Welcome Back, Carter!)
Episode 28 (Summer Run)
Episode 29 (Do One, Teach One, Kill One)
Episode 30 (What Life?)

Episode 32 (Days Like This)
Episode 33 (Hell and High Water)
Episode 34 (The Secret Sharer)
Episode 35 (Home)
Episode 36 (A Miracle Happens Here)

American Beauty - movie DVD cover picture
A beautiful satirical comedy/drama:

'American Beauty' is an artistic film that uses a great deal of cinematic skill to underscore the ironies in one man's life, with the ultimate irony being that regardless of temptation, each person will be true to their ideals when faced with ultimate threats to those ideals.
Kevin Spacey plays Lester Burnham, who is fired very early in the film. Annette Bening plays his wife Carolyn. Very quickly, the stereotypes begin. One sub-theme throughout the movie is Kevin's desire for a pretty high school cheerleader. However, the real sub-theme is wanting what you can't really ever have. This same theme is repeated for each of the major characters, from Carolyn to their next-door neighbor Colonel Frank Fitts to Ricky Fitts, Frank's son, played by Wes Bentley, to Jane Burnham, Lester and Carolyn's daughter, played by Thora Birch. Each wants something they do not have. To varying degrees, each gets what they think they want, but, and this is the real moral of the movie and the story, what you think you want isn't truly what you wanted, because when you get what you want, it doesn't give you the happiness you thought you were going to get.
Kevin spends much of the movie working out, buying his dream muscle car, and lusting after Angela Hayes, played by Mena Suvari. It certainly seems as though his purchases are providing him happiness. However, he is looking for the relationship he once had with his wife. In a pivotal scene in the movie, Lester and Carolyn are in the immaculate living room of their house. Lester has a beer, and begins to get somewhat amorous. Just as it looks as though something might spark, Kevin spills his beer, which causes Carolyn to be more concerned about the expensive couch than their relationship. Is this shallowness a cliche? Yes it is. However, there is more to the story than just cliches.
As the story unfolds and each character seems to be making progress toward getting what they want, in many cases the scenes are set up as fantasies, which are beautifully and artfully done. I find one of the most intriguing characters to be Ricky Fitts. Ricky wants his father's unconditional love, and loves his father, but somehow you sense that he knows he'll never get it. Further, I felt that Ricky knew that eventually something bad would happen between his father and him. The sense of impending disaster that Ricky anticipates through his actions and his attitude infects the rest of the movie with the same feeling. Almost as though you were in quicksand and knew a bad end was coming, but it comes so slowly that you don't realize it until it is too late.
The real beauty in the movie is at the end. While I will not reveal all the details, I will reveal important details, so if you do not want to know, I'll tell you quickly that this movie is very artsy and well-acted. If those types of movies appeal to you, you will love this one.
Near the end of the movie, Lester finally has an opportunity to be with Angela. It is the very last thing Lester has wanted throughout the entire movie, that he has, up to now, been unable to get, and here he has his chance. However, there is a small problem. After Angela's top has been removed, she asks Lester to be gentle because it's her first time.
What? Hasn't Angela been telling Jane Burnham throughout the movie about her sexual exploits? Yes. Here's part of the sub-theme once again. Angela in fact has wanted to have the experiences to match her bragging. Now that she has the real opportunity to have it happen, she is fearful. Lester realizes that he cannot take away Angela's innocence, and tells her to get dressed. Both realize continuing would be a mistake for both. An incredible, but very correct decision for each. The movie brilliantly puts a most incredible temptation to two people, and they both realize that getting what they thought they wanted would make neither happy.
I'm not going to reveal what happens next. I admit I was surprised that Lester would resist temptation, but proud of him too. He was tested, if by no one else then by himself, and he passed. He proved that he was stronger than nearly all the other characters in the movie. Of course, this scene sets up the final irony.
A brief word on symbolism. The rose is used as a part of Lester's fantasies throughout the entire movie. Remember that the rose is a symbol of many things, love and purity being only one of them.
The visual beauty of this movie is used to drive home the theme. The movie is not only ironic in the way the characters and the scenes are played out; the movie is visually ironic as well. To explain that irony would require giving the ending away more than I have. One other thing: This movie does not condone 40+ men having sex with under 18 girls any more than 'Pretty Woman' romanticizes and fosters prostitution. If you believe that this movie is all about one man's fantasy with a young girl, you missed the point. Try once more and hang in there, the meaning is deeper, and subtler. However, you have to watch to the very last scene and think about the symbolism of everything you saw. This movie is truly beautiful, very well done, and an instant, very artistic classic. I would rate this movie more than 5 stars if I could.

Holy toy chest Woody!!

This is what DVD is all about. There is so much packed into this dvd three pack that it took me literally two weeks to get through it all. First off, both Toy Story 1 and 2 are terrific movies, even for the big kid in me. I personally think that the second film is much more entertaining than the first, but that could possibly be because this was the first time I had seen it. Each movie has a ton of extras, and thats before you get to the third disk. Now, I'm not sure if that third disk was really worth all the extra money, cause most people are likely to only watch it once. But still, the movies are great, and will get watched over and over.

Everyone should Own this

Friends was a TV series that will live in our hearts and our minds forever. Having missed the first two seasons I began watching this show during season 3 and have never stopped since. During that time I joined the Army and missed a few seasons while in Iraq. However that's when I started my collection and am proud to say have seasons 1 through 7 on DVD, and on the list to recieve 8 from Amazon. Amazon has been great in letting me know release dates so I could preorder. Watching the DVDs while in Iraq always took me away and reminded me of home. That's the incredible impact this show has on people. I miss my Friends but the DVDs are the only way that I keep them with me. This way they will never grow old. So go out and buy season 8 it's one of the best!
