Flawless Anime Series

Cowboy Bebop is spectacular, plain and simple. I've been a fan of Anime for quite some time now, and nothing, NOTHING, compares to Cowboy Bebop. Excellent animation with a distinct style, the characters all look great, even Ein the welsh corgi. Another part of Cowboy Bebop I find remarkable is the dubbing, which, believe it or not, is also quite close to perfect. The voices just seem to fit the character with a semblance that can't be found in other animated series, with the possible exception of Batman. Basically, in as few words as possible, If you can find this box set, buy it! If you can't find the box set, buy the individual DVDs. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.

We Have Come to Terms

I absolutely LOVE this anime! There is something intriguing about the story line that makes it impossible not to watch. Roger Smith is a (very fine) negotiator that searches for answers to Paradigm City's loss of memories from 40 years prior. 'Big O' contains some awesome battle scenes with huge Medadeus robots. But with all of this action, I am always in suspense in each episode to see if Dorothy (a pretty android Roger has chose to look after) and Roger will ever let their feelings for one another show. I HIGHLY recommend 'Big O' for anyone who loves action and suspense with a good plot.

Mostly Martha - movie DVD cover picture

This story of Martha and her kitchen are a great edition to anyone's film collection. The addition of her deceased sisters child rocks Martha's world in many ways. I do not think enough of the reviews focus on this fragile relationship. Lina and Martha's relationship mirrors the relationship with the talented Italian chef. Both relationships are new and frightening to the lead. This movie has charmed me and captured me. I m sure it will capture every person who see's it.

5 stars from mother of 5

The sweet songs and gentle characters on the Wheels on the Bus Video keep my kids entertained, even after 15+ viewings. I got this as a Christmas gift and it has really passed my test as a mother of young children. I hope they make a sequel to it.
My oldest, 8, likes the songs. My 5 year old enjoys seeing the Pacific Aquarium sealife. The four year old and 2 and a half year old really enjoy both the farm as well as the party sequences. Even my 18 month old son climbs into a chair to watch the whole story of how Mango and Papaya ride the bus in search of their home.
The 33 minute time length is perfect for helping a busy mom finish short tasks while avoiding an hour an a half feature length interruption to a toddler's day.
No coarse language or rap music. Characters are all polite and exhibit good manners. And the whole thing is done with gentle fun suitable for even the youngest viewer. This is a good, safe video for little ones.

Great DVD Box Set

I ordered the black and white version of the Bewitched Season 1 DVD Box set because the series was originally filmed in Black and White. I thought the colorized version took away from the classic feel of the show.

Elizabeth Montgomery and Dick York displayed wonderful chemistry throughout York's five year run on the show. There could be no other Darrin but York. Agnes Moorehead, David White and the adorable Marion Lorne rounded out a steller cast. I would recommend this box set for every Bewitched fan. It is truly worth the investment.

I will say however, that it would have been an added bonus had Sony taken the time to insert original commercials from sponsors Quaker Oats and Chevrolet, along with interviews with Bewitched cast members.

The follies of corporate greed

This movie is about one thing...making money. As Seth Davis states at the very beginning, he doesn't want to help the world, he doesn't want to contribute to society, he wants to make money and lots of it. Every day he sees people making millions of dollars, and he "wants in".
The movie provides great insight into the slimy world of stockbroking. Seth Davis is roped into a stockbroking firm known as JT Marlen. Once inside, he finds that they will do anything to make a sale. Morals are flung aside and they use every pressure tactic available to close their sale. The movie provides powerful insights into human nature and its tendency to gravitate towards greed and avarice. Watching the movie makes you realise that there are many things worth a lot more than the dollar.
I really can't fault this film on any points. Powerful cast, powerful performance, powerful lessons. Watch it!

Manhunter (Director's Cut, Limited Edition Set) - movie DVD cover picture

My first Michael Mann movie was "Heat", a stunning drama in itself. When I saw "The Insider," I was hooked on to his style. This movie predates the other two, so this is where his style must have developed. Lots of wide-angled shots, a fluid narrative and some astonishingly riveting music (the soundtrack is hard to find btw, it is a collector's item now and boy does it deserve to be!)
Manhunter was the first movie adaptation of Tom Harris' book called "The Red Dragon". Although this is a Hannibal Lecktor movie (yes, with a "K") the role of Hannibal is not that prominent here, although what little there is does leave a malevolent tinge. Apparently, Brian Cox (as Lecktor here) caused a lot of furore in 1986 but after having seen Anthony Hopkins thrice in the quietly sinister role I must say he is unmatched. The voice of Hopkins has much more current than Cox's. IMHO.
With the exception of Hopkins though, whom I prefer, almost everyone in this film is more compelling than the newer movies (Silence of the lambs, Hannibal, Red Dragon.)
I found William Petersen as FBI manhunter Will Graham much more appealing than Jodie Foster's or Julian Moore's Clarice Starling. Petersen's portrayal of Graham as the haunted, introspective, reluctant hero is more complex and get the sense that he is driven by inner demons to solve the crime he is faced with, but doesn't really want to be there and would much rather spend the remainder of his days in the bosom of his family on the beaches of Captiva Island.
The centerpiece of the film though is the terrifying portrayal of psychotic killer Francis Dollarhyde by the underrated but talented actor Tom Noonan. Noonan's hulking build seems a stark contrast to his character's quiet, introverted, soft-spoken persona, which hides the inner embodiment of pure, psychotic evil. Here is a guy who runs a photo lab by day but returns every night to a spooky, surreal lair which obviously reflects his inner psychosis, which he has learned to hide from view. The symbolism of his relationship with the blind Reba (Joan Allen) is obvious. His character is able to present a normal appearance to everyone around him yet goes out on the night of a full moon and slaughters whole families whose pictures he has processed, simply to fulfill his fantasies.
Give this film a go if you can manage the tension and the buildup to the shattering climax. Then give the family a hug afterwards, and make sure your doors and windows are locked at night. Mann's filmmaking has a way to make your skin crawl.

Irwin M Fletcher, you choose!

It almost seems unnecessary to review this film, as it already has a strong 5 star rating. However, Chevy deserves that much.
Fletch is a must see film. It is tough to explain, but Chevy's dry humor and sharp wit is so impressive. It is a pleasure to watch such an intelligent man pick people withouth them even knowing it.
In general, this film is more popular with guys than with girls. I saw in it in 1985, and probably watch it yearly.
Definitely a must see.

Loved It

After listening to Jars' for a couple years, I got this DVD so I could actually "see", them. I cannot explain this very well, but I see the band much differently after watching this. I saw who they really were.
This DVD has a few special features outside the actual concert. It's great to watch if you are a Jars' fan. If you aren't really into them, you might not enjoy it very much. The quality is alright, nothing compared to a feature film though.
