Firefly - It Rocks

I am so sorry that this particular tv show never went on to greater glory. It is such a shame. The humor is first rate and the stories are fantastic. A bit of the old west mixed with a space-bound future. Mr. Weaton outdid himself. I am greatly anticipating the movie.

Greatest story

Other reviewers have already explained why this is a great movie. I just wanted to add that this is an artist's interpretation of Carrol's story - that is why some of the characters are missing and the plot somewhat deviates from the book. If the creators were to stick to the book word-for-word, it would probably be a 4 hour film. Books and movies are two different formats, so I judged this cartoon based on its INTERPRETATION of the story, as well as masterful animation. This is one of those stories that will dazzle the child and make the adult think at the same time. If I could give 6 stars, I would.

Great Show. Great Band

I saw Bela Fleck live this past year for the first time and I immediately fell in love with the music from the first note. Then I was at a friend's house last month and watched the DVD for the first time and we watched it again last night. I do need to go out and get my own copy of the DVD so I can watch it at anytime. To say the music is pure magic and real love is a severe understatement. Bela's natural gift and love for the banjo shows. Bela and his band put so much love into every note they play. If you have the chance, go out and get that DVD and also see them live. This is one band who TRUELY loves what they do. Trust me, you will fall in love!

An Enchanting Story of One Bizarre Family!

This was a funny movie! It is about a father who is crazy, and tells his son to look at everything from another perspective. (The father admits to being in the nuthouse at one point in the movie. His wife does too.) His son is very moody, and his wife is deranged and is afraid to leave her house. The father takes his son on a trip to the grand canyon, to coincide with the astronaut's landing on the moon. Along the way, the father does some amazing things. He gets drunk, and hits on women in a bar, and he is almost shot when his son's pet snake escapes. (The bar customers paniced.) The father also beats the living s**t out of some ruffian in a diner. He also gets in trouble with the police. The father is a very cool character. (And I'm serious he REALLY is!) His wife also spends the movie driving around trying to find them. And the son also drives a car! (Well, kind of.) They also travel with an Indian. (Who does not believe in fighting, but the father sure does!) A lot of zany stuff happens in this classic fairy tale! It involves a pontiac. It is a fantastic movie, it deserved an academy award, and it MUST, under ANY circumstances be rereleased on DVD! A true classic, this is one not to miss!

S.F.IIV is awsome!

It is like they say, S.F. IIV is by far the best martial art anime based on a video game.Unfortunally most of the martial art anime base on video games aren't very accepted by the fans because it doesn't follow the same story line as they does in the game making it lose its bright in the anime businness.S.F. absolutelly passed the test although it is kind of different from the games story line. The animation for this anime is great and the action scenes are awsome.Buy it and see for your self that S.F. in anime can be the same as awsome and fun as in the video game.I was impress when I first watched it,it is by far one of the best fighting anime ever.

5 Stars For Two Scenes

If you saw this as a kid, the two scenes you remember still hold up quite well - albeit in a giggly way now - including the sight of that big ol' nasty fireball crashing down through the ship and the finale, when we take a "trip" through the black hole, hands-down one of the looniest trance-out "movie rides" you're likely to experience. As for the rest of the movie, pure garbage. Rent it, go to the chapter list, play the scenes that hooked you as a kid. You weren't wrong (you were just wrong about the rest of it)

An intimate story of two stubborn and unlikely heroes

This film has been described as a David v Goliath story about the exposee of big tobacco, which it certainly is, but what made this picture such an emotional experience was that beneath the surface, was an intimate story of personal struggle among two men, Jeffrey Wigand(Crowe) and Lowell Bergman(Pacino).
Jeffrey Wigand, the proud, reluctant family man, who went about in blowing the whistle on his former employers, Brown & Williamson, was not protrayed as the typical crusader out to do good for the right cause. He was shown with all of the flaws of human frailties present that contributed to the realism of the movie. The motivation for him to particiapte in an exposee of Brown & Williamson was strictly to preserve his pride as a man of integrity and most of all, to protect his manhood and prevent castration from the powers that be. His reasons for going public were not noble and were not for the right reasons. It was the way the film gave him a full arc in which he began to shape into a real hero doing what he did for the right reasons, made it a movie with great depth and brutal honesty.
Aside from those qualities, another admirable quiality about this film were the photography and visual compositions. The visual style this movie carried was just absolutely amazing. And it wasn't obstrusive to the story or overly-stylized. Every composition and color scheme were there to add to the atmosphere and storytelling. Michael Mann's minimalist compositions reminded me of Michelangelo Antonioni's work that gave this film the detached feeling and presence it required in revealing the anti-social personality and confusion of Jeffrey Wigand. Director MAnn and Dante Spinotti is definitely up there with other frequent dynamic duo Director/DP teams like Steven Spielberg with Janusz Kaminski, Coen Bros. with Roger Deakins, Anthony Minghella with John Seale, Wong Kar Wai with Christopher Doyle, and so on.

Still Laughing after the third episode

If you've missed this series, you've missed a gem indeed. Never mind the awkward US 'equivalents' of this baby. 'Sex in the City," "Friends," forget them. This is real, irreverant, truly funny stuff. I love the ease and subtlety that this series really addresses potentially horrific material with such style. I'm still giggling after watching the third episode in this series. Totally irreverant and tasteless in such a tasteful way. Think "Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Sex" as narrated by Mr. Rogers after a stiff drink. Twisted, clever, and dirty in the same fell swoop. Easily 5 stars, 6 if it went that high.

A Beautiful Story

This movie is one of my absolute favorites. I admit the first time I saw it, I enjoyed it but wasn't ready to run out and buy my own copy. Once I bought the DVD though, I was enchanted by the story. I have seen this movie over 3 times now and am still fascinated by it. It is a very simple story but very gratifying. It is filled with clues about life and the powerful human being inside people. You will walk away from it ready to make a change in the world, for the better! Give it a chance, you will love it.

A Real Life Rocky Story

This is an excellent and entertaining film that depicts the spirit of sports at its best.

The basic storyline features the fall and rise of former world heavyweight boxing champion James J. Braddock. He went from being a top ranked fighter in the 1920s to a down on his luck fighter struggling to feed his family during the Great Depression. He fought poorly in a series of fights when he had a broken hand just to put food on the table. Eventually he had his boxing license suspended for his poor performances.

Soon he was barely scraping by with day to day work loading and unloading on the docks. He eventually gets an opportunity to have another fight and the movie really gains momentum from there. He keeps winning unexpectedly in bouts against opponents who are likely to whip him.

During this unlikely comeback, he finally gets a title shot against World Heavyweight Champion Max Baer, who has killed two opponents in the ring.

Although the first part of the movie may be a bit slow, it really gains momentum as it goes along. It paints the grimness of the Great Depression in a very depressing and realistic way. Part of the plot is way over the top (as is so typical and predictable in movies). In this one, Max Baer is presented as a killing machine who enjoys hurting people. My brief research of him revealed that he actually gave purses from some of his fights to the family of a fighter he had accidentally killed. I also learned that he had a Star of David embroidered on his trunks when fighting German Max Baer during the Nazi heyday. That didn't make him sound like the rotten scoundrel that Director Ron Howard tried to portray. As is so typical of Hollywood, the ruling elite can't settle on the truth. That isn't interesting enough for them evidently.

Nevertheless, this is a very good film portraying a classic American rags to riches story. I highly recommend it.
