Miami Vice - Season One - movie DVD cover picture

I have waited 20 years for Miami Vice to arrive to DVD. After watching all the episodes on this DVD (Season 1), I almost shed a tear. The music sounds brilliant if you have surrond sond with a sub. If you have a larger TV with HD/Digital inputs you will notice dirt/flakes during the theme song. Universal/MCA obviously didnt consult George Lucas on how to digitally correct an old film ( See Star Wars Episode 4). Also, some episodes are crisper then others.

My favourite episodes are Smuglers Blues (Glen Frey rocks) and Rites of Passage ( where we see some model/hooker on the show do enough blow to ski down). I did find it hard to stomach watching Al Bundy kick the crap out of some deadbeat in episode 2 or 3. My biggest complaint on the original show is how wimpy the guns sounded. Crockets Berretta and Tubs shotgun sound like firecrackers, thankfully Universal has enhanced the sounds on some of gun battles.

Also, some of the scenes are longer then the rereleases to cable in the 90's. Don Johnson is the coolest hetrosexual male ever to wear pastel shirts and pants. And, if all of Crockets clothes are seized from Govt drug seizures, whose the drug dealer that had like 40 Versace/Gucci outfits that fit Crocket exactly. If you were a fan of the show on its original release, you must buy this DVD. IT RULES. BRING ON SEASON 2. IM NOT WAITING UNTIL 2024 UNIVERSAL.

America's Favorite Family Goes Digital

Bart and Homer and the rest of the Simpson clan have finally joined the digital revolution with the release of their first season on DVD. This first collection of discs includes the Simpsons episodic debut, "Bart The Genius", along with other season one classics, original story boards, unseen footage, in-depth commentary from the creators, original animatics of "Bart the General" that demonstrate how the animation is created and how the cartoon evolves into it's final form, a full documentary on the show that originally aired on British television, clips of the show dubbed in foreign languages for audiences around the world (wild!) and even the Simpson "shorts" that aired in the Tracey Ullman show. This DVD is the most comprehensive collection of Simpsons material ever created. From outtakes to interviews, it gives the viewer a truly "behind the scenes" perspective of all that goes into the making of this elaborate animated series. If you aren't sure why "d'oh!" has been added to the english dictionary, or would like to know what "eat my shorts" sounds like in Portuguese, then this collection of DVD's is for you.The Simpsons DVD Season 1 is a real treat chock full of goodies for the simpsons fan of all ages, and is a must have for the Simspons enthusiast of any degree.

Tragic beauty wrapped in a historical gaze

Irma Vep is definitively on one my DIV (Desert Island Videos). Framed by Les Vampires, a French silent film from 1916, the film is alternately dull and titillating until the end. Until the end. This film should be part of every film lover's lovelife.

Very entertaining show...

Surprisingly differentiated and interesting characters, interesting setting, generally entertaining plots. It's a shame the series was cancelled. Hopefully the upcoming movie ("Serenity") will give it a new lease on life...

Shall We Dance (Japanese Version) - movie DVD cover picture
Life affirming and joyous

So rare.
I sometimes find myself hard pressed to comment on the terrible state of movies today. Unimaginative, depressing, and juvenile - how can they get any worse?
But then along comes a film like "Shall We Dance". Personally, I would find it hard to believe that anyone could watch this film and not be moved by it. The emotions each player summons from viewers are real and heartfelt. Multi-dimensional and superbly fleshed out, the characters violate their initial appearances as the film unfolds. And the acting is wonderful; the consummate players disappear into their roles.
That this film is Japanese portends great things for the post-Kurosawa age. An unusual mix of drama and comedy, "Shall We Dance" also has elegance and insights into not only the characters, but also Japanese culture. As a film it succeeds in every way and I assign it to the very short list of best films I have ever seen. My wife would agree.
Can't wait for the DVD - a must have.

Finally a great video with the full classic line-up that we all love. The set list is nothing short of spectacular if you like a good show this is it. I think all the people that saw them live agree. A good followup to yessymphonic, In an objective world this would be a major hit. In real world let's hope so! It's about time!

Predator (Full-Screen Edition) - movie DVD cover picture
"I'm Here, Kill Me, C'Mon, Do It NOW!!!"

Predator is an awesome action movie in it's purest form. Consider this: 1) A bunch of big, bad [...], military guys with even bigger guns will go into the jungle on a mission. 2) The leader of this group will be Arnold Schwarzenegger 3) In this said jungle will be an alien opponent of mythic scale just waiting for some new sport. 4) It will have an unknown director who will use optical effects never before created. Now consider the genious who green lit this project, producer Joel Silver. Silver may just be the greatest thing to happen to the action movie since James Bond leapt from Ian Fleming's page onto the screen in Sean Connery's body. The very idea of this film is preposterous, yet Silver saw something, as he must have with such films as Lethal Weapon, Die Hard (also directed by McTiernan), and The Matrix. He must have seen the potential for greatness.
Why is Predator so brilliant? I don't know, it just is. From the word "go" this movie is nonstop. McTiernan, just put the pieces together right. Surrounding Schwarzenegger with guys like Carl Weathers, Bill Duke, Jesse Ventura, and Sonny Landham, was inspired. Also inspired: giving Ventura the gattling-gun and the line, "I ain't got time to bleed, or Landham's line, "There's something out there waiting, and it ain't no man. We're all gonna die." Alan Silvestri's heart pounding score, the amazing special effects from the predator's camouflage and it's POV, and Arnold, how great is Arnold? Pretty great (he certainly has some of his best one-liners).
Man, this movie just rocks. It transcends it's genre, everything about it is tip-top. It is definitely one of Arnold's best roles. So what do I think? Is Predator one of the best action/sci-fi movies ever made? I think yes.
