Your children will love it, and most likely you will, too

This movie features a real children favorite: Elmo, from Sesame Street.
In this movie, Elmo will learn, though his adventures in Grouchland (where Oscar comes from, for the Sesame Strees "experts"!), that it's very important to be able to share, and how this will enrich you as a person and better your relationships. A useful lesson for many, and not only for children!
The movie contains many songs, performed by various characters; all of them will be fun to learn, and many of them are also very motivational and with nice words.
All children will love this movie, and as a parent, you will be happy that for once, they are learning something while watching TV.

The Reason Motion Pictures are Made

For all of the idiots out there who can't think their way out of a wet paper bag, for all the morons who think an Adam Sandler movie is entertaining, for all the mindless robots who like to 'plop' down in front of the Almighty box with a bag of pork rinds and watch professional wrestling, for all of the fools who think Julia Roberts can act and all the rest of you who didn't 'get' this movie, I say stick to something simple, like Police Academy XV because this movie is light years ahead of your sub-simian understanding. America is doomed

a skeptic viewer from new york city"this dvd is captivating"

Seeing this wonderful British version was like seeing Oklahoma for the first time. It's triple threat cast - they can act, sing AND dance - were just thrilling. Beautiful, and multi-range voices, energetic dancing and perfect deliverly of their lines made this a pure pleasure. Who would have thought that a group of Brits could do a play about the American frountier better than we Americans. But they pulled it off. I have seen a half dozen versions of this play on stage and with this production I found myself laughing out loud at the lines, even though I knew the dialogue by heart - getting goose bumps from the songs - and being enthralled at the choreography, which is reminiscent of the original DeMill, but much more athletic and energetic. This is a filmed stage production, so the set is rather stark, but very cleaverly done, and it does not take away from the play, because you can't keep your eyes off the cast! For those who have never seen Oklahoma, this is the perfect one to introduce you to the great American musical. For those who are familiar with it - what a wonderful surprise this will be for you.

LOTR - A VISUAL/AUDIO CLASSIC FOR ALL TIME

O.K. - I've been reading all the reviews, most very supportive, some unfavorable. To those of you who love this triology, I stand fast with you. To those of you who have done nothing but nitpick, have little to credit all the hard work that went into the making of this movie, plus your laments about how long the movies were, I say this to you:

Here's a classic that Peter Jackson took on, only because he loved the Tolkien books so much. For fifty years NOONE produced anything memorable regarding The Lord of the Rings. Why? Because NOONE had the vision and fortitude that Peter Jackson had, or the good fortune to have artists like Alan Lee, John Howe, and the WETA WORKSHOP to bring to life the characters in this trilogy. The musical score composed by Howard Shore was stunning and exceptional. (Presently, there are concerts being given around the world that are featuring the music of LOTR/Middle Earth, along with ensambles of choirs, soloists, and musicians. I recently attended one such concert in Baltimore, and when it was finished, there wasn't anyone sitting! All were on their feet, giving those talented people a "standing ovation".) The actors in their respective parts were well chosen and very believable.

Hard work by everyone, and hard won. And guess what! 11 Academy awards were bestowed on this group of dedicated people.

So, to those of you who find yourselves in the catogory of "nit pickers, whiners, and one-to-two-stars minded", I give you this advice:

GO SOAK YOUR HEADS, OPEN YOUR SMALL, SLITTED EYES, AND CLEAN OUT YOUR EARS SO AS TO BE ABLE TO APPRECIATE SOME OF THE FINER EFFORTS OF PEOPLE WHO CARED ENOUGH TO BRING YOU THE VERY BEST OF WHAT WAS POSSIBLE FOR SUCH A CLASSIC AS THIS TRILOGY IS.

As Peter Jackson mentioned when hitting the Red Carpet on Academy Awards night, "...the [...] have landed." Yes, Peter, millons (myself included) are sure glad you did. We have a visual and audio classic we can pass down to our own children, and I am sure, wherever J.R.R. Tolkien may be, that he, too, is smiling, and thinking, "...EXACTLY...EXACTLY WHAT I HAD IN MIND."

Shoujo, but not.

The first 10 episodes (or 3 DVDs) of this anime tv series take place before the original Battle Athletes OAV (original animated video). These episodes set up the whole premise of going to the University Satellite, and the struggle to get there. Long story short it is very good. Worthy of watching, if for nothing else to see the sports drama. There is a slight lesbian sexual undertone, but that does not detract from the main story. One of the best things about this DVD is the dubbed version of the show. Sure they add profanity to a script that had little to no profanity before, but the diversity of the voices that is used is outstanding. The only draw-back that the DVD has is that the production company grouped all the episodes together taking out the Opening and Closing sequence/theme and the previews for the next episode. This series should be a must for any collector, and at the low price of only $16 a disc, what is stopping you from buying it.

What's not to love?

The DVD edition of Buckaroo Banzai, including an alternate opening sequence, is the only way to view to this classic science-fiction/rock-and-roll/road flick crossover movie. Compared to watching a chopped up version on late night TV or a snowy VHS video, the DVD quality is superb, the sound effects are distinctive, and the plot is almost coherent. A must for any serious collector <g>.

American Beauty and X Japan symbolism

Of course the DVD could have more extra feaures but the next edition surely will. Clever biz move. But the movie itself is absolutely OTT.It deals among other topics with magic in ordinary life and the doors that lead to it.Many bands like Mirror or X Japan for example use the same color symbols pattern which stand for passion.KURENAI = crimson color = deep red.It stand for many things, first of all and most crucially for:ROSES and BLOOD.X {Japan}'s first single was called KURENAI and founded that concept. In Amercian Beauty the symbols of KURENAI always reoccur and make it really interesting in terms of visual art and not only fabula of the movie itself such as the context, the meaning and text. But visually all is bonded by images that are so real and realistic and at the same time magic and special.Really gifted.I wonder if Sam Mendes is an X Japan fan?

Lilo & Stitch - movie DVD cover picture
funny charming heart-warming

Based on the trailers I was not looking forward to this film, but it won me over quickly, and I watched the whole thing with pleasure. Lilo is a lonely little girl living with her older sister who is broke, looking for work, and trying to be a mother to her troubled, sad little sister. Stitch is an illegally created alien who has escaped to Earth and been placed in a Hawaiian dog kennel. Upon meeting, the two are immediately inseparable, to hilarious effect. The writing is very funny throughout. There are good guys, bad guys who turn out to be good guys, really bad guys, and Stitch -- the character who changes the most ("Are you sure he's a dog!?") through the course of the film. And there's a fair amount of Elvis. What's not to love here?
DVD extras are excellent. There are well-done featurettes about the production (including storyboarding, voice sessions and music), animation, Hawaii, the hula, and Stitch's persistent attempts to get on the big screen; a trivia game; 3 music videos; 4 trailers; 3 deleted scenes; and 9 promotional trailers for other films.
The film can be heard in English, French or Spanish, and subtitles are available in English.
Very nice dvd package indeed, and a fine funny family film.
