Faithful to the book?

A very funny book made into a very attractive movie.Which to do first - read the book or watch the movie?I guess read the book.BUT the movie has been fleshed out quite a bit.The only place where it fails is in the friends of Brigid. They are flat and muddled and very uninteresting. But on the plus side we have injokes with Mark Darcy echoing some of his poses and walks from Pride and Prejudice and a good central performance from Renee Zelweger as the hapless Brigid.Maybe you will lose a bit of patience with her as she does not develop as a character but this often happens if an actress is mostly concerned with putting on an English accent to the detriment of character development. You`ll either love it or be completely indifferent - that depends on the amount of interest you have in thirty-something singletons living in London and in Colin Firth as the sexiest hunk of all time.I enjoyed it and would watch it again and again. My favourite addition was Mark`s Christmas sweater and tie.Hilarious and an improvement on the book. Also the ending which left lots of room for the sequel.

The Best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is an absolutly outstanding show. Everything about it wonderful. To start off, I want to thank my friend Shannon who got me started on this show. She had been over and we watched the first 2 1/2 episodes and I was hooked. I had seen 2 other episodes but they were later on and I was dying to find out what would happen next. So, I bought the first season and it was worth every single cent. The plots are great and keep you interested, the actors are superb and I love seeing Sydney go on so many missions.

One thing that was a tiny flaw was that the first DVD and a half have Sydney go on multiply missions, which are really interesting, but it gets a little repetive. Then, the big guns come out. Rambaldi, Kate Jones, Sydney's mom, can Sydney keep up being a double agent?

I love the charecters in this show, all of them are so believable and I love watching the episodes that deal with Sydney's regulare life, her friends, and school. Francie and Will are so great, though I don't know what Charlie's problem was. I also really liked the SD-6 charecters such as Dixon, Marshall and Sloane. Plus, I really liked Sark. He was so interesting, with his British accent and wondering who his "Employer" was. Plus, he was kinda hot.
Though let's not forget Vaughn!!!! Oh my gosh, Vaughn is so awesome! I loved learning more about his life and he and Sydney are SO PERFECT for each other, I don't know what took them so long to get together. I guess it was cause of SD-6 and dumb little Alice. Still, I loved every minute that Sydeny and Vaughn were together, and the sparkage was great. Though it does get better in the second season. He he.

The thing I hated though was Noah, I mean EW!! He's old enough to be Sydney's father, he talks really weird and he has scary teeth. And then they sleep together!! I mean, what the hell was she thinking???!!! What about poor Vaughn?????? It was great though, when Sydney killed Noah. When I relized it was him I started jumping and screaming. Bring on Vaughn people!!

The season finale was AMAZING. One of the best I have ever seen. Sydney's outfit was great and I loved Vaughn's hair. Anyway, yeah, it was all cliffhangers but it was so astounding. When Vaughn didn't get through the door though I started crying. Also, it was wicked sad what happened to Will. That Suit and Glasses guy scares me so much!! Oh my gosh, I hate him.

That's another thing I don't really care for. There are a couple of torture scenes which I don't like, but they never cross the line, and don't let that discourage you from buying this set.

Overall, this is one of the best shows to come along in a LONG LONG time. I absolutly LOVE it, and I'm saving to buy the second season now, even though I'm borrowing it from Shannon as we speak!!
Buy this DVD set, it is so worth your money, you will not in any way regret it!!

Galaxy Quest

I've been a Star Trek fan for years. All the new Star Trek movies seem to be missing the humor that the Captain Kirk-episodes had. Galaxy Quest puts the humor back into Si-Fi. I've seen it three times and am looking forward to its release on VHS/DVD. A must see in my book....

An Excellent Movie

Normally, I don't like old movies (except for the classic musicals, which I LOVE!) but, from the first scene of "Gone with the Wind" I was hooked. I love Scarlett O'Hara, I can't imagine any other actress but Vivien Leigh playing her. With the classic love story which will never die and the Civil War scenes. This is an excellent movie and will always remain popular with the public.

Train Your Dog - The Positive Gentle Method - movie DVD cover picture

My dog & I have learned so much from this DVD. We practice every day and he is learning quickly. I'm not sure what the other people are talking about because I thought this was a great DVD. As for it being for beginners, it doesn't claim to be anything more advanced. It also isn't a clicker training DVD, so the fact that they covered any clicker training at all is just an added bonus! Maybe the other people weren't paying close attention because it all made sense to me.

Gripping crime thriller is a wonderful midnight movie

There are certain films that are so quiet and intense that they demand to be watched in the middle of night. After the hustle and activity of the day is finished this intense crime thriller starring Morgan Freeman and Gene Hackman can be enjoyed. Hackman plays a wealthy Puerto Rico lawyer who is questioned by old friend Freeman about a corpse that he discovered. As Hackman's story changes, Freeman probes deeper and deeper into Hackman's private life trying to discover whether or not his friend is a murderer.
This movie grabs the viewer from the opening titles and takes you breathlessly through the story without graphic violence and only slight sexuality. It does so on the sheer power of the performances and the story.
This is a complex thriller that is truly in the Hitchcock tradition.

Pearl Harbor - movie DVD cover picture
Pearl Harbor (an objective view on history)

I tried hard to find something to like about this movie, but other than Hans Zimmer's film score (and even that was substandard compared to his other works), this movie was a massive disappointment.
Based on the bad reviews, I went in with low expectations and Michael Bay failed to meet even those. Although Ben Affleck and Kate Beckinsale tried hard with a bad script, aside from their efforts the acting was cardboard, the dialogue was shallow, the love-story plot was predictable and unoriginal, the special effects were WAY overpriced (prop planes don't fly like X-wing fighters), and the history-well, from end to end the movie was replete with historical errors, from mundane stuff (e.g., incorrect uniforms, wrongly painted aircraft) to more serious errors (e.g., Doolittle Raid bombers flying in formation, at altitude, with fighter pilots at the controls, providing running commentary on the radio, etc. etc. etc.) By themselves, each of the errors is insignificant, but taken together, they give the lie to Bay's claim that this would be the most historically accurate film possible. They also raise the question: if you're going to spend this much money to make a movie, isn't worthwhile to get your facts straight (especially when you don't have to be a history professor to get them)?
About the only good thing I can say about this moive is that if it helps to instill some appreciation of our country's history in people who didn't have that appreciation before, then it will have served a good purpose. But if you want an accurate historical portrayal of Pearl Harbor (using real aircraft as opposed to unrealistic pretenders), you're not going to do better than "Tora, Tora, Tora." If you want a quality love story set against the backdrop of the Pearl Harbor attack, you can't beat "From Here to Eternity." As far as this one goes, save your money. I wish I had.
