Fabulous Series

I am not one for noticing technological fine points so I will not comment on the less than technically perfect DVD. However, I do love excellent writing and acting and John Mortimer's adaptation of the Evelyn Waugh novel is simply superb. It is what brought Jeremy Irons to the attention of American audiences. He is the narrator of this story about a very wealthy Catholic English family. He is drawn into this family when he meets the son, Sebastian, at his college. Eventually, he is drawn into relationships with more family members and Sebastian's sisters, Julia and Cordelia, also become very important to him. Sebastian is ultimately a flawed and trajic man whereas our narrator begins to adopt the worst aspects of the upper class into his own character: boredom, lassitude, disenchantment and jadedness. Set in the earlier 20th century, the recreation of detail period and costume is also outstanding.

One of the Best

Musicals used to be huge. From the late 30's to the early 70's, you could count on a musical or two a year. The late 50's and 60's seem to have been the high water mark. Fiddler on the Roof is one of the last old school musicals and is one of the best. A great performance by Topol; easily the best of his film career. Great scenery and a great story. One enjoyable song after another for three hours.

Another Great Season

Like any comedy show, most do get old after awhile. Season 3 of Will and Grace is still a great season to own. I think after Grace got married and when Karens husband died it just wasnt as funny without her unseen husband she complained about so much. The show started going down hill. The past year wasnt so hot. The storylines were to unreal and the cast all seemed to have acted very cartoonish. Anyway season 3 is great. The bloopers are really funny on here which adds an additional bonus to this seasons set. I would recommend this one for your collection as well as season 4 when it comes out. However season 5 and 6 I think i will skip. The storylines need to be improved and made more realistic or the show wont last much longer.

I didn't even know I like Celtic Music

I love is music. I first discovered it while flipping channel and I stopped just as chloe sang the song from the "Hunch Back of Notre Dame" I was spellbound. I watched the rest of the concert even the station's pleas for money because I didn't want to miss a minute. PBS offer this DVD as $75 premium and $150 for both the CD and DVD. Later There was a TV ad offering them a $25 each. On Amazon I got both for less than $25 plus shipping. The DVD has the entire concert that was shown on PBS plus Interviews that weren't plus Bios of each proformer in text.(The CD is missing two songs that were in the concert)I think what I like most about the DVD is the Audience shots their enjoyment just shines in their faces. It makes me want to go to Dublin to meet the kind of people who were watching that concert.

Kids just love animals

This video is a natural for a child. My daughter loves to watch the animals and has learned to recognize a variety of creatures from this DVD alone. I was thrilled to see they were limited to standard barnyard animals, and I love the upbeat music and the charming scenes! It always holds my daughter's attention and is great for soothing her from a bad mood, and also for thrilling her when she is already happy!

This is one of those classical productions (like the Narnia books) that appeal to adults as well as children. It is loaded with puns and references to historic and cultural situations.

Best WWII Film

Lee Marvin... a war veteran for real, so when Boorman decided to make him an even bigger star than he already was, he knew he was dealing with iconic material that needed to contrast with an equally fiery temper of a quite different kind. So he put another icon from the east opposite him, the king of the Samurai films, and made his first subversive feature. Hey, where else do you get to see Lee Marvin take a leak on Toshiro Mifune's head? Not in any other American cinema of the period, that's for sure!
This should've been the war movie to end all war movies, because it just lays the whole absurdity out in such a hilarious laboratory test of extremes, no one who sees it ever forgets its almost "Naked and the Dead" type absurdist, thoroughly anti-war point of view, which is effective ONLY BECAUSE it makes the existence of evil an undeniable fact that needs to be checked and transcended by humans ALL THE TIME.
Fans of idiotic, pointless 'WAR' dramas that senimentalize the 'mettle-testing' horrifically absurd experience called by that neanderthal-grunt-friendly three letter word into some kind of 'heroism' to justify the 'freedom-saving' lunacy for the poor dupes who went through it (the fantastically crafted but artistically mediocre "Saving Private Ryan," for one) need not apply, but anyone else looking for confrontational cinema in the humans-shooting-projectiles-at-other-hum ans-wearing-different-clothes genre would do well to start with "Hell in the Pacific," then move on to Anthony Mann's "Men in War," Sam Fuller's "Steel Helmet," and Bertrand Tavernier's "Capitaine Conan." Peace Out Y'all, and remember to solve all your peace-time problems with a gun, as Tony Soprano would.

One of the Greats of it's Kind

First off I'll start by saying that it follows in the martial arts film tradition of "no great story needed because we're all about the action".

This rates as the 2nd best martial arts film of all time (1st being "Enter the Dragon") in my book. Tony Jaa is destined for a great future in company with the likes of Jackie Chan, Bruce Lee, Jet Li, etc... He is simply incredible throughout the film. Not much dialogue but he delivers some of the best action sequences I've ever seen on film.

Great soundtrack, awesome cinematography and most of all brutal, hardcore fight action througout. A MUST see for any martial arts fan.
