Saw PBS and loving the DVD. I think the audio and visuals are amazing, I am really enjoying playing it on my surround system actually, I'm not sure where that other reviewer is coming from. At the moment my favourites are "Somewhere" (not on the CD unfortunately!!) "Send me a Song" and "Si Do Mhameoe" which has great percussion as well. The lights are well designed to bring out the best in the set, which looks like rivers and lakes and sails in a kinda arty way. I keep switching between the DVD and the CD! Good stuff, very high preoduction quality.

Never Better

It may have been 26 years between Nektar performances, but from this showing, you would never believe it. Absolutely scinillating(sp)and magical. The music is marvellous, the interviews are quite entertaining and informative and the camera work is very solid. Having seen the show live, I can say the DVD captured the feeling as well as any recorded show I have seen before. For Nektar fans this is a MUST have; and for those who may wish to sample brilliant progressive rock, then this is still for you.Jump on the DVD while you still can; you will not be sorry.

One of the BEST!

I have to say this is one of my favorite all time movies. The soundtrack is amazing. This is a latino's dream come true(I should know, I'm latino!). This movie is not a long concert, as some might think. It has a great story, some funny parts, and an excellent soundtrack (did I say that already?). Every musician is a "mambo king" in his own eyes. The successes and failures that these brothers encounter are very true to life. If you haven't seen this movie, go buy it! You won't regret it.

This Movie rocks!!

not bad of a vampire movie and its not worthy of passing up Interview With The Vampire. Townsend is the vampire Lestat and Aaliyah is The Queen Of The Damned Akasha. Basically, longtime ago, Townsend woke up Aaliyah and then she is back for him to be his wife. Good vampire effects and loud and heavy and fun rock music by static-x, orgy, chesterbennington and so on. You could rename it Vampire Goldmine(Velvet Goldmine spoof)

This is great! All the things I always wanted to do!

This is great! Jimmy gets to do all the things I always wanted to do as a kid (and still would like to)!
Didn't you always want to build a private rocket, launch it from the roof and tell the airforce jets 'nice antiques' while hitting the after burners? Launch an 'Advanced Communications Toaster' to contact outer space? Have a secret lab in your basement and built an armada of space ships in two days with time to pack snacks and then save the world?
So it's wildly implausible. That's good, just relax and enjoy it! Watch all the things you missed out on doing and find out what would happen if all the parents left at once.

Filmmaking at its best.

This is definitely one of the most ambitious and original works that I have seen from the nineties, a time when film (especially horror) was slipping into a trend of over-hyped sensationalism. Out of the mass of special effects ridden blockbusters came a gritty, odd film in black and white. This is a western in the style of Sergio Leone's "Once Upon a Time In the West." Slow-moving and with surprisingly little dialogue, with chartacters that are so utterly believable and flawed, it captivates the viewer from the very beginning. The film moves like a dream, with slow fades that separate each scene, and a musical score from Neil Young that is driving and apocalyptic. The acting is extremely good from even the most menial roles to those of Depp and Farmer. The plot seems intentionally thin, leaving time and room for the viewer to think about what he or she is seeing (I'm going to spare you my thoughts on the symbolism and meanings and let you draw your own conclusions). The camera work is also stunning, probably more effective in stark black-and white. What results is a very effective, thought-provoking and excellent film.

Davey and Goliath - Vol. 1: New Skates/Waterfall - movie DVD cover picture

Our family's philosophy is basically secular humanism and all five of our children (now ages 14 through 31) watched this program growing up and loved it. So did I. On reading the 12 reviews on this series, I am questioning them since I rarely see these DVDs or VHSs anywhere used, and never anywhere new; maybe the original producers didn't have making money in mind, but whoever is selling them used now sure does. I would like to buy them, but think I will pass.

A Reprinting?

Having recently purchased this item, this item appears to be exactly the same as the "other dvd" of this same title? (Which has excellent, informative reviews if you do a search on Amazon.)

I won't bother with a dvd review here; the reviewers on the other dvd's page captured its essence perfectly.

Needless to say, this OVA has an excellent few side-stories to the manga. However, as far as I can tell, the only difference between the two dvds is the color of the cover.
