Code of Bushido

For those who like a more "realistic" depiction of Japanese martial arts, "The Hunted" is a MUST SEE. The only thing that seperates the Samurai from the Ninja IS the code of honor "BUSHIDO". The Hunted pits these two age old martial disciplines against each other in a very exciting and realistic way. The sword "fight" scenes are incredible at the same time believeable. A MUST SEE for anyone who enjoys, and appreciates, "BUDO".

Last of the Dogmen - movie DVD cover picture

Screenwriter Tab Murphy (Gorillas in the Mist, Disney's Tarzan, Atlantis) directs his first feature film, a modern western with a keen awareness of the consequences of American expansion and growth over the last 200-plus years. In short, Tom Berenger plays a bounty hunter in a small mountain community, a decent guy who sorta keeps to himself, which makes certain folks suspicious that he's up to some sort of no good. When Berenger discovers that an ancient tribe of Indians, the Dogmen, have been living in the mountains nearby, completely cut off from the white man, he becomes determined to protect them from the outside world. His efforts to do so raise more suspicion among the townfolk, leading to the film's dramatic, climactic confrontations. The film has mystery, romance (Barbara Hershey is great) incredible scenery (it was filmed in Canada and Mexico) and a great symphonic score. "Last of the Dogmen," I believe, was the last movie ever released by Savoy Pictures, just as the distributor was folding its tent and going bankrupt. They put no effort into promoting the film and it died on the vine. What's worse, they made the horrible mistake of adding a voice-over track by Wilford Brimley (Mr. lemonade) which is by turns unintentionally hilarious and completely irritating. But no matter--the great story and fine performances more than overshadow this gaffe.

Braveheart - Why it is tied for being the Best Movie of All

Braveheart was the only one till I saw Saving Private Ryan. Now it is tied. What a great movie. The fact the this happened to a man is unbelievable. I fell in love with this movie along with the woman I watched it with. This will reign as one the the best moves of all time, up there with the likes of Casablanca, Lawerance of Arabia, Saving Private Ryan, and The Ten Commandments. Mel Gibson was spectacular. I would HIGHLY recommend this movie.

Comedy and horror wrapped up into one! One-of-a-kind!

I never really watched Dawson's Creek regularly, but after seeing this movie she is already one of my favorite actressess! I enjoyed this movie because it had everything... a bit of comedy, romance, suspense, horror... all the qualities you need in a 5-star film, in my opinion. Don't be too skeptical when you see the cover or read the reviews for this movie, it surprised me a lot!

Walken at his best!

This film is hands down Walken's finest performance! He's witty, funny, scummy, and downright scary in one of the more underrated films of the 80's. Both Penn brothers turn in good performances, not to mention Crispin Glover.

Have you ever confused dreams with reality...?

This was one review that was hard for me to write. I saw this movie a while ago, but I couldn't write a review for lack of anything to write. Not that there was nothing to write about this movie-just that everything sounded wrong. After I kept telling myself I'd write a review "later", I decided it's either now or never. So here goes.
Angelina Jolie of course one an Oscar for her great preformance as Lisa Rowe, the hearltess wacko. It's every actors, or actresses, dream to play crazy, because everyone knows how hard it is to play without looking overdone or lame, and if you're a good actor everyone stands up and takes notice of you in a role like this. Which is what happened to Jolie. But what about the other great actors in the movie? Winona Ryder plays Susanna Kaysen, who at eightteen lands in a pyscatric center after a suicide attempt. There she gets diagonosed with "borderline personality". She also befriends some unusual girls: her roomate Georgina (Clea DuVall, great!), who is in for lyring and is obsessed with the Wizard of Oz; Daisy (Brittany Murphy), who keeps fried chicken onder her bed;and Polly (Elisabeth Moss, who burned her face as a little girl.
This movie is one I relate to, yet I haven't been diagonsed with a mental illness (yet). But then, you hasn't ever felt themselves slipping maddness? Who hasn't confused dreams with reality? Who hasn't ever been blue? Who hasn't ever thought they were crazy and needed to be saved? Maybe that's you, reading the review... but somehow I don't think so. And yeah, if you've never felt that... I have a feeling you will.
Now, this movie is a true story you now, based on the book. I have yet to read the book but I'm looking into it. For now, all I can saw is watch the movie.

A classic of war.

This movie captures perfectly the claustrophobia of subsurface warfare. As the destroyers pass overhead dropping blind, killing devices the Germans submariners, unable to see their attackers, sit often in silent fear waiting for the world around them to stop exploding. This must be what the actual German U-boats went through.
Fine acting and a top-quality script do nothing but enhance the powerfully understated directing. Everything that happens just seems to naturally occur. The whole thing has something of a documentary feel to it. It also has one of the great tragic endings of all time.

This video deserves 5 two!

This is my all-time favourite Christmas video. It tells the well-known story of...well.."How the Grinch stole Christmas"! (the title says it all!) But more importantly, it communicates a very powerful message about Christmas. We get so caught up in all the "floof" and "fuzzle" that we forget what Christmas is really about.
"Every Who down in Whoville, the tall and the small, were singing without any presents at all. He hadn't stopped Christmas from coming, it came! Somehow or other, it came just the same."
The video also features memorable songs, I mean, who doesn't know the Whoville Christmas song? My favourite is "You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch". Listen to the lyrics, they're very funny! All in all, I highly recommend this video to any Who of any age. Have fun watching it and Merry Grinchmas!

"The flame that shines twice as bright..."

"...burns half as long." By that reasoning this show should not have lasted ten minutes. Joss Whedon has created an incredibly believable world, a surprisingly effective mixture of the Old West with Science Fiction, with an ensemble of character actors at its heart that shine as brightly as the cutting-edge special effects surrounding them. The writing in this show is exceptional. The acting is superb all around, even all the guest actors that show up give good performances. The only gripe I may have had with the creation of the show is all the hand-held cinematography. But this show is a different animal. They mix in the special effects shots with the same type of camera-work, as if some bystander is capturing all the effects as they happen, which makes for an immediate feel to the scene, special effects and all. The idea is ingenious, and the fact that the visual effects are all top-notch and extremely expensive make this one of the most effective Science Fiction shows ever created. If you love great Science Fiction with action, humor, excellent writing, solid acting and a collection of some of the finest visual effects creatively rendered then look no further than "Firefly" for a solid Sci-fi fix. I will warn all newcomers, however, that this is all they made before the show was cancelled. Believe me, with a show this well-made, the episodes burn up by like a brushfire on a windy day. "Firefly" is Science Fiction at its finest. Highly recommended.
