Excellent Story & Strong Performances

This movie surprised me. It wasn't what I expected. Taylor, Cliff & Winters give great performance in the respective roles, believable & sympathetic. A must see movie and a moral lesson goes long with it but not heavy handed. SPOILER AHEAD: Murder or not you decide but the priest answers that question for us. Also, watch the documentary in the special features. It's about 20 minutes but worth watching.

Best Documentary Ever

Some Kind of Monster can be simply described as the best documentary ever. You get behind the minds of the creators of classic albums like The Black Album (Metallica), Kill 'Em All and Load (only to name a few). This film builds a bond between you and the band. You feel for Hetfield and his problems. I was particularly sad for Kirk Hammet due to his lack of having much of a say in the band. Hetfield and Ulrich are the two remaining founding members of Metallica and they often times show it. I am not speaking for everybody, but as a pretty big metal fan, the best part has to be the conversation between Lars Ulrich and Dave Mustaine. If you call yourself a fan of Metallica and/or Megadeth, I don't need to explain the signifigance of this confrontation. You also get to see the making of St. Anger, Metallica's newest album. It's not their best, but it is a descent Metallica flash from the past.
Even if you are not a huge Metallica fan, this movie is still very intruiging. The interactions between the band are at times funny, angry, sad, etc. I was a little mad at Lars Ulrich for the Napster thing, but after seeing this film, it became understandable, a little bit.
P.S. FOR THE RECORD, DON'T STOP LISTENING TO METALLICA BECAUSE OF THE NAPSTER INCIDENT SEL YEARS BACK. THAT WAS MOSTLY CAUSED BY ULRICH. HAMMET AND HETFIELD DIDN'T HAVE MUCH TO DO WITH THAT.

English dub of "Myuutsuu! Ware wa kokoni ari!"

As already noted, this is the English dub of "Myuutsuu! Ware wa kokoni ari!" which in Japan was a special program of Pocket Monsters. I have the Japanese DVD of the special and it's very good, the voice acting, the animation, the music, everything. I sincerely hope that 4Kids doesn't mess up this really great saga. The first few minutes of the DVD recap the events from Myuutsuu no Gyakushuu (Mewtwo Strikes Back) and then starts with Domino (a new Roketto-dan member) explaining to Sakaki (Giovanni), Roketto-dan's (Team Rocket's) leader, about the whereabouts of the Pokemon that he has tried for so long to regain control over, Myuutsuu (Mewtwo). Myuutsuu is on an island in a lake on top of a plateau raised higher than the rest of the ground along with his clones. At the beginning of the story Satoshi, Kasumi, and Takeshi (Ash, Misty, and Brock) meet up with a lady and then with another young lady and a man. Musashi, Kojirou, and Nyaasu (Jesse, James, and Meowth) then steal Pikachuu. The ensuing chase leads them to be in Roketto-dan's balloon above the plateau where they eventually get to after crashing into the water. Sakaki comes and threatens to hurt Myuutsuu's clones if Myuutsuu doesn't return to Roketto-dan. Sakaki's black mail plan works and Myuutsuu walks into Sakaki's containment field. Will Satoshi be able to save Myuutsuu!? Will the sacred spring producing the special water in the plateau be saved from the corruption of Roketto-dan?! Is Sakaki Satoshi's father? Well, I'll give you the answer to that, which is no. I don't know who spread that rumor but if Sakaki was Satoshi's father, then I THINK that either Satoshi would have recognized Sakaki or Sakaki would have remembered Satoshi. But to find out the answers to the other questions, you'll have to see the show to find out!

A truly great movie. Full of facts every American should know.
Michael Moore is a great patriot and a brave man. He is wealthy and doesn't need to care about anyone else but he cares enough to tell us the truth. He has backed everything in the movie up with facts that can't be disputed. I am deeply grateful to him.
I recommend this to everyone who loves their country and wants to know the truth.

One of the most powerful antiwar films ever made!

"I'm a marine! I'm gonna kill those b@st@rds, I'm gonna shoot them, I'm gonna bayonet them, I'm gonna break their arms...That's what we're here for, to kill. Everything else is just crap!" -Rip Torn's dialogue from "Beach Red".

I've waited years for this underated classic to be released on dvd, and I'm very pleased that MGM is releasing this as well as several other war classics for the first time. 1967's "Beach Red" was directed by Cornel Wilde, who enlisted the aid of the U.S. Marine Corps, the Defense Department, the American Legion, and even the Philippine army and navy to assist in making the $1.8 million dollar war film, which was based on Peter Bowman's 1945 novel. Filming was completed in just 41 days of shooting on the Philippine island of Luzon. Any actor playing a soldier was forced to wear 42 pounds of equipment on the beach at all times, and Cornel Wilde used almost no stock combat footage for his gritty battle scenes. In short, both the cast and crew were pushed to their limits!

"Beach Red" tells the story of U.S. marines landing on an anonymous Japanese-occupied Pacific island, and taking terrible losses while advancing from the beachhead. Cornel Wilde and Rip Torn are fantastic, and the battle scenes remain quite graphic even when compared with recent war movies. What sets this war movie apart from other war movies of the 50's and 60's is that this has very few ethnic or racial stereotypes, and it spends almost as much time showing the Japanese perspective as the American. Both Japanese and American soldiers are shown having vivid flashbacks in which they remember their wives and families.

When released theatrically, some critics condemned Cornel Wilde for showing such graphic carnage, even in a war movie. The Defense Department even asked to have the marines' assistance removed from the film's credits. But I feel it's one of the most powerful antiwar movies ever made (with an unforgettable ending), and it has aged very well. If you're a fan of war movies, do yourself a favor and add this treasure to your collection!

Belief and Words creates

Bruce Almighty
Director Tom Shadyac was trying to portray faith and belief in a realistic setting. This movie was rife with comedy, yet it told the truth about how we shape our own lives and destiny with the power of faith, belief and our own words, and whether we take responsibility for our own actions or not. Personal faith and or belief have its ups and downs just like life depending upon the circumstances. Life is not a rose garden; it changes and does not remain the same.
Bruce Nolan (Jim Carrey) learnt this lesson the hard way. He yearns for the anchor position on the News. He was not ready for the position and yet he expected it to be given to him. By stating that he was not ready for it, I mean that he did not want to do the work required to prepare for it. Interestingly Bruce is like a like of so-called Christians, expecting the best that life has to offer without paying the dues required. When things do not go his way; he whines to anyone who would listen. He in effect created his own negative world, blamed others for it, and never took the responsibility himself for his own actions.
All the aspects of God's provision were available to Bruce, but like most of us, he was blind. He asked God for a sign and was given several, but never even noticed.
When God (Morgan Freeman) gives him a chance to experience a little of what it is like to be God, Bruce delights in using the power for his own wants. However here is where the lesson comes in. Individual selfish, callous actions cause others to suffer. At times like this it seems that God's grace departs from our lives, in Bruce's case it was his girlfriend Grace (Jennifer Aniston) who moves herself from his personal while he learns the lesson.
Later on Bruce is told by God that "Everyone has the power to be a miracle." The trick is to be responsible to use it for the good of humankind and not for selfish reasons. The ending of the movie has a surprise twist that reiterates the message. God is within everyone (the sign holder), with the power to make changes in lives one day at a time.

Absolutely marvelous!

Robert Duvall is at his best in this movie. He steals whatever thunder Kevin Costner may have hoped for. It is a must see in the big theater for all the bigness of the great outdoors. It may have been filmed in Canada, but it looked like what the "old west" might have looked like in the era of the film. Duvall is John Wayne in this film. Costner did his best job of acting since Dance With Wolves. This is not a typical Costner film. It's better. I can hardly wait for it to come out in DVD. My screen isn't big enough at 36" to give this film its due. See it on big screen. I'd vote Duvall Best Actor for his part in this film.

The Academy Awards will be for not. The best Picture of the year was not nominated. I saw all the films with the exception of Chocolate. This film was beautiful. Its was done to perfection, and is one of those rare films that allow you to escape to another time. I rate movies on a simple scale....Bad, okay, Good, and never want it to end. This I never wanted to end. Excellent film to own and watch over and over again. The sound track is one for the ages.
