Excellent Film!

As father of a severely autistic boy, I enjoyed very much Cuba Gooding Junior's portrail of a developmentally disabled man who just wanted to be part of a community. Gooding's character becomes mascot of the town high school football team, as he gains acceptance from the team, he still has to battle with the stereotypes of the conservative towns folk who think this "freak" has no place in our town.
Good study of human nature the best and the worst too!!

More family movies needed

After seeing both "Toy Story" and "Toy Story II" I think Hollywood producers need to consider making more family-oriented films. Most new films released this summer are full of violence, hatred, sex, and blood and gore. "Toy Story" and "Toy Story II" proves that good, clean, wholesome movies can be just as profitable as anything else they have made. My family and I have totally fallen in love with the "Toys". I plan to purchase both DVDs when they are released this October. My thanks to Pixar for their superior film making.

MATCH 1: US TITLE - Chris Benoit Vs Orlando Jordan - 1/10:
Pointless, should have been on heat. Ends in 25 seconds.

MATCH 2: Matt Hardy Vs Edge - 3/10:
Hardy takes some good bumbs, but the match is far too short.

MATCH 3: LADDER MATCH - Eddie Guerrero Vs Rey Mysterio - 9/10:
Match of the year candidate.

Not really a bad match, but it is a bit boring.

MATCH 5: The Undertaker Vs Randy Orton - 7/10:
Great match, the ending ruined it slightly.

MATCH 6: WWE TITLE - Chris Jericho Vs John Cena - 9/10:
Wow! these 2 gave it their all.

Pretty brutal match but way too short at 9 minutes long.

MATCH 8: Hulk Hogan Vs Shawn Michaels - 8.5/10
Far better than I expected it to be.

Overall event rating: 7/10

Inmensely entertaining !

A strong-willed princess is supported by his wise , his Pygmalion , and sword -wielding protector (Toshiro Mifune).
George Lucas has admmited this film influenced him in his famous Stars Wars trilogy.
Kurosawa once more is overwhelming with this haunting story . There is violence but the weight of the script in itself justifies by far this element ; the camera work , the ralentis , and arresting images make of this film another classical issue of this radiant genius of the cinema

One of Kino's best packages. A must for Marlene Fans!!!!!!!!

I like most the DVDs that Kino makes but I must say that this is their most impressive package. A two disk set, the features are marvelous, including both versions of the film (which look great)! Marlene Dietrich musical performances, scene comparison, informative commentary, and a not to be missed screen test with Marlene. The film alone is great, but the DVD package makes it outstanding. Its about a professor, Emil Jennings, who is perfectly cast, and his downfall after meeting a nightclub dancer named Lola Lola, played with great charisma by Marlene Dietrich. A must, don't hesitate to but the Kino 2-disk set if your a Dietrich fan!

What your mother and I must know...

Black Christmas is without a doubt the greatest horror film you've probably never seen. I hadn't heard anything about it myself until I noticed it cropping up on a lot of people's favourite horror film lists, so decided it was about time I saw what all the fuss was about. The film centres around a Sorority house in the Christmas holiday season, where the girls begin receiving a series of disturbing phone calls from an unknown source. It soon becomes apparent that a faceless killer is stalking them, a killer who has snuck in through an open window and is inhabiting their attic... Pre-dating all of the classic horror films of the late 70s and 80s, Black Christmas is a stark, stylish and creepy film that boasts some chilling moments and some great performances. The genius of the film lies in it's ability to evoke an intense atmosphere of forboding which leaves you constantly unsettled and totally immersed which it does without the need for special effects, gore, or cheap scares. The direction, framing, POV shots, and lighting all work toegther seemlessly to provide moments that really leave you cold (especially the eye through the crack of the door). The script deserves a mention too, because it really is superb. There are some great characters, some good threads of drama and even comedy, but these are brilliantly and appropriately contained within their scenes without detracting from the menacing atmosphere and overall theme of the film. The phone calls are one of the high points, containing shades of Reagan's multi-voice outbursts in the Exorcist but with overtones of despair and confusion which give an insight into the psychological state of the deranged killer. All in all, if you are a fan of horror, and looking for something more than the slick disposable dime a dozen slasher films of recent years, you simply have to own this little gem.

One of Most Powerful Movies I Have Seen

Just several hours ago I watched this movie in the only theater within my my area that is actually showing it, and I now feel compelled to write my first review for This is one of the most powerful movies I have ever watched, and it has evoked a wide range of emotions within me: shame for the West's apathy towards the Rwandan Genocide, disgust for the heartless murders that took place, and admiration for those who had the courage to actually try and make a differance rather than just wash their hands of the affair through hollow words and shallow sentiments.
Hotel Rwanda has been called "The African Schindler's List", due to the seeming ability of one man--a Hutu hotel manager--to save the lives of over 1200 Tutsi refugees. The parallels are of course salient, but in a sense the fact this occurred only ten years ago injects the element of shame and pertinency into the movie for *our* generation.

Don Cheadle does an excellent job playing Paul Rusesabagina, the hotel manager. His authentic delivery and emotion throughout the film are incredible, and frankly I believe he deserves the oscar, even though Jamie Foxx himself was outstanding in Ray. The supporting cast all do an admirable job as well, and one of the delights of this film was that the second half is an almost a completely African one, save for Nick Nolte and the faceless UN soldiers. I would highly encourage anyone curious about this film to see it. We all have been exorted to never forget the Holocaust, and to pay our homage through the various films, books, and museums that have made their way into the collective consciousness thanks to the media. Like the Holocaust, we should never forget this; indeed we have a duty not to forget and to make sure it remains in our memory because we, as "The West", had the power to make sure the words "Never Again" rang true, and unfortunately we failed.

One wonders at times whether or not the destiny of Africa is to suffer. It's sad to note the plight of this region and of Africa as whole since the Rwandan genocide. The neighboring country of the Congo has suffered 3-4 million dead in a horrific yet almost wholly ignored civil war (with Rwandan participation) while Sudan's Darfur crisis has once again tested Western and UN resolve. When will "Never Again" mean Never Again?

One of the best

In the theater, the big bank robbery scene is theLOUDEST shootout I have ever heard.
Pacino is great in this, but De Niro is better. He is a cold blooded, quite ruthless robber, whois shown as such and yet, we the audience like him.We like him a lot.
Of course as this is an American movie, he has topay in the end, but that's OK. Strangely and I cannotreally explain it, my sympathy slowly leaches over toPacino as the movie progresses and though the De Niro character is still itself sympathetic, I do not seethe end of the movie as tragic.
Now that seems to me to be bravurra film making.
Mr Mann is on top top form here.

Everyone should go see this movie!!!

I was a little unsure about paying money to see this film when it first came out. I am familiar with the hilarious plays done by Tyler Perry, but movies are on a totally different level. Once I walked in the theatre and watched the movie, I left amazed!! I can not believe that Tyler Perry is such a mastermind, being able to produce both plays and movies, and do a terrific job at both.

The movie is great for teenagers through senior citizens; it is very clean, with no foul language, and is filled with drama, humor, and reality. The film relates to life, and how you can move on from your past, discover who you are, and become a better person.

If you are worried about the actors in the film, put all of the fear aside!!! Some great and well known people were chosen for this film, Kimberly Elise, Shemar Moore, Steve Harris, Cicely Tyson, and of course Tyler Perry. All of these actors did a beautiful job and played the role so good that I actually forgot who they were.

Movies such as Big Momma's House have no comparison to this film, so if you enjoyed or didn't enjoy that movie, I guarantee that you will enjoy Tyler Perry's. Unlike Big Mommas House, Diary of a Mad Black Woman actually has meaning, and a story that you can relate too. Although you may enjoy only laughing throughout a film, Diary of a Mad Black Woman allows you to laugh, cry, love, and make your life better.

This is a wonderful film, and I ensure you that it will be worth your penny. Once you see the film, you will think that Tyler Perry has been creating films all of his life. You will shed tears of sorrow, as well as joy, and simply feel love and life. I give this film 5 stars and encourage all to go support.
