Excellent DVD Collection

After reading some of the reviews listed here, I was a little concerned about the "Crime Story" DVD set, particularly the claims about missing soundtrack songs and poor picture quality.
After buying the set watching the DVDs for myself, I can say that this is an excellent collection in every respect and it is everything a Crime Story fan should hope for.
The picture quality is not pristine but is by no means bad at all. I haven't noticed any missing songs or soundtrack sections. I paid close attention to this, and when I suspected a non-original song was inserted, I compared it to the VHS version and it was always the same.
It's true there aren't any special features, but this isn't exactly that kind of show. In terms of popularity, it's a cult hit at best. As a long-time fan of Crime Story, I belive it's very fortunate the series has made it to DVD and am very grateful to own it.
I recommend this set very highly to any fans of the show, police/crime drama, Dennis Farina, Michael Mann, and good television.

Save the Best for Last!

ALL ABOARD, Twilight Zone Zannies! THIS IS IT (as someone who has seen them ALL three times over) . . . The ONE Twilight Zone DVD with the most value, resale value, and bang for your buck!!! Excellent for the budget minded, cheapskates, or downright frugal (who tape most events but complain about the quality because they didn't bother with Monster cables)! It doesn't include the first or second "best" episodes (you will have to purchase volumes 11 and 26 for that!), but each selection is definitely (and amazingly) in the "ALL TIME TOP TEN"! Indeed, Volume 2 is the humdinger, superstar, Sean Connery as James Bond of them all!!! Each box in the collection comes with welcome words such as "Four remarkable episodes" which provides the purchaser a (in this case, false) sense of security that he or she has brought home the broomstick of the Wicked Witch of the West. Unfortunately, more in the tradition of the Wizard of Oz himself ("a good man but a very bad wizard"), many in this collection have munchkin-like value since the episodes are put together with rhyme or reason more difficult to ascertain than Dorothy's elusive rainbow! "Time Enough to Last" features Burgess Meredith as a funny but tragic bookworm and dreamer. It is probably the weakest episode but it still makes the likes of Professor Klump look like a mainstream idiot! "The Monsters are Due on Maple Street" appears to be a commentary on how certain lower class (thinking) people in our society always need a scapegoat. Therefore, the show (as in real life) results in some chilling possibilities of what happens next. "The Odyssey of Flight 33" reflects creator Rod Serling's first rate, wild imagination! A jet airliner confronts a tail wind with such velocity that it moves into another time barrier! In this script, the "unbelievable" becomes completely believable! "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet" has a couple of shocking scenes that will have you contemplating the "what if" question for the remainder of your time on earth. If you are watching in DVD, this is actually the third in the sequence of four episodes. But I recommend watching it last for a truer sense of the "Grand Finale".

Love the DVD, hate the shorter edited scenes

YES! I was ecstatic to have the DVD, I _almost_ threw away my VHS dubs: that beautiful love scene in the 1st episode and other scenes were edited (let's just say Boris' behind was seen much more on tv ;,). Otherwise YES, I love the show and didn't hesitate despite the price to support an African American producer, though price should be accessible to eliminate the possibility of bootlegs.

Excellent Christian Movie full of miracles!

This is the story of Joe Cass, a small town Minister. Joe preaches at a church with 4 members, his family is struggeling to stay together, and he is training as a volunteer fireman. During a fire, a miracle happens to Joe, while saving a boy from a burning building, that the whole town, except Joe, believes was Jesus Christ himself. This incident blesses the town and brings them closer together... I don't want to give any more away. This is a very touching movie, and I feel all should watch this movie, Christian or not. You can't go wrong for the price. Buy it, watch it, and see for yourself.
God Bless

This Gem of a Film is a Must Own DVD!

Bruce Lee - A Warrior's Journey is just fantastic. Here's a quick rundown of what is on this DVD:
The first half of the film explores Bruce Lee's background and evolution in martial arts, from his beginnings in traditional kung fu to the development of Jeet Kune Do. Included in this half of the film is some never before seen footage of Bruce Lee in training and in demonstrations, excerpts of an interview with the master, along with some interviews with some of the important people in his life. Along with this is a brief chronicling of his journey into superstardom, culminating in an explanation of how Bruce Lee intended Game of Death to be seen through the reviews of Bruce Lee's very own notes on the film. From his notes, the lost footage of Game of Death was skillfully put together for the conclusion of this DVD.
The second half of this film, the conclusion, is where the never before seen footage of Bruce Lee's Game of Death is shown. Needless to say, the master's original vision of this film was fantastic, and had he completed this movie, it definitely would've been his best. And although Hong Kong martial arts films today have evolved so much since the time Bruce Lee came on the scene, the fight scenes choreagraphed and filmed by Bruce Lee still stand up as being some of the best fight sequences ever filmed.
Also, for those of you who are film buffs, you'll be delighted to know that although the majority of the dvd is shown in full screen, the original Game of Death footage on this DVD has been presented in the original widescreen format. So although the disc jacket says this film is in full screen, only the documentary portion is. The Game of Death footage, which I bought the DVD for (and what I know most of you will be buying this dvd for), is preserved and shown the way it was meant to be seen.
So what are you waiting for? All you Bruce Lee fans, get this DVD!!! And all of you martial arts fans, buy this DVD!!! You won't be disappointed!!! Long live the master! Long live the Dragon! Long live Bruce Lee!
(On a final note, thanks must be given to all those who made this dvd possible. Being a big fan of Bruce Lee, finally seeing some new footage of him was just incredible, and very special. Thank you John Little, for putting this treasure of a film together for all of us Bruce Lee fans. You are the man!)

Suspend your disbelief

The problems with Crime as depicted in films are many. You have fantastic plots, poor acting, you dislike all the characters or you simply can't suspend your disbelief. Thats fatal. Here is the ultimate, free of all of those. Not only that though, the acting is a treat and the pace so wonderfully gripping. One gripe! Yes, all of the characters are nice with high moral values, even the police? Thats the appeal of the film, whoever you are you just can't help but feel empathy with someone in it, a must for likability. Who doesn't want to be Neil? Top marks, puts all others in the shade!

Davison's last adventure is also his best. Great send-off

The Caves of Androzani brings the Peter Davison era to a close. I wished that Davison could have stayed with the show another season or two, as it was just in his third season as Doctor Number Five (the classic series' 21st season overall) in which he finally seemed to have settled into the role and become more comfortable. "Caves" was written by veteran DW writer/former script editor Robert Holmes (Terror of the Autons/The Ark in Space/The Talons of Weng-Chiang, etc.) who turns out a Doctor Who adventure which is not only the best of Peter Davison's tenure as the Doctor, but also one of the show's greatest stories ever. The late Christopher Gable turns in a great performance as the tragic antihero Sharaz Jek. And John Normington is also great as the true central villain Morgus. "Caves" is well-directed by Graeme Harper, who manages to get a lot performance-wise from his cast, including Davison, Gable, and Normington, as well as Nicola Bryant (Peri) and Maurice Roeves (Stotz). And at the end we get to see, although briefly, Anthony Ainley as the Master, along with all of the companions from the Davison era during the regeneration scene. The Caves of Androzani is Peter Davison's last and best Doctor Who outing, and possibly the best DW story of the 80's, and also possibly the last great story of the classic DW series.

A Must-Have!!

There are certain music videos that I consider "Must-Haves". This is by far one of them. Neil runs through a list of old and new while playing to an audience that is cold from a consistent 2 hour rain and snow storm in Colorado. His band is hand picked with all legendary Rock and Roll Hall of Famers. His wife and sister are fantastic as vocalists-and they are freezing! This DVD is in DTS sound which is spectacular. The "In Berlin" DVD does not hold a candle to the audio quality. This is a true "surround sound" gem. Others have commented on his "passion" during this performance not being there and his voice not up to par. What DVD are you watching? For all true fans of Neil Young and of home theater audio and video quality, this DVD is a must-have!
