what are you people reviewing?

OK - Season three had some of the best quality episodes of QL of the entire series. Bakula began to get more involved, even directed some. And the adventure was in top form. This show deserved all the praise it got back then for being new and innovative. (just think of the QL type clones that have come along since - SLIDERS, PRETENDER, JOHN DOE...)

Now to my point of writing here - I noticed that very few people seem to be writing reviews of this season. After all - how could they? The dvds are not out yet and they have no way of knowing what they are reviewing. What people seem to be doing here is just bitching about the previous releases and about Universals attitude towards music rights and packaging.

This is supposed to be a review section based on the actual item in questions. An item, none of us have seen yet. I'm just appalled to see people miss-using this section.

It's like someone I saw review STAR WARS episode 3, and just bash it calling it crap. How does he know? And I think that if you go into it with that attitude, then you'll find a way to make it self-fulfulling.

Just like the people here. You'll hate QL season 3, because you are preparing yourself to hate it.

You know what QL is to me? Good writing, good acting, a thoughtful and provocative story that moves me, makes me think... I don't like it for the special features and all the extra bells and whistles. I like it because it is great. Any thing more than the episodes themselves is just bonus. Sure I think "georgia on my mind" is essential to the last episode of season two. And it sucks it isn't on there. But the story remains the same - a great, moving story.

DON'T LISEN TO THE OTHER REVIEWERS. LISEN TO ME!!!!!!

This movie is a fantasy masterpiece. The animation is perfect, the character desing is great, the story is cool, the action is awesome and the graphics are also perfect!!!

I know that there are many bad reviews about this anime and the main reason is that is not loyal to the manga and the prequel Tokio Babylon. I didn't watched the tv serie, the manga and the prequel and now I am NOT INTERESTED because I don't want to hate this masterpiece. DON'T WATCH this movie unless you don't know anything about X!!!!

IMPORTANT FACT: This movie is NOT action-packed!!!! If you liked Akira and Princess Mononoke then maybe you will love this one. But if you are searching for animes like Ninja Scroll, Dragonball, Black Lion and Yuyo Hakusho then you will hate it, but don't worry!! this anime is NOT THAT SLOW as Ghost in the Shell and Perfect Blue.

ADIOS!

Quantum Leap, not just another Sci Fi show.

In the late 80's and early 90's Quantum Leap was a household staple in my home and I watched the show every week. No other show (even today in my opinion) carries the passion or the intelligence that was Quantum Leap. Quantum Leap chronicled the life of Sam Beckett, a doctor who created a time travel project (in none other then New Mexico) entitled "Project Quantum Leap". During Sam's first experimental leap with the project he was leaped through space and time and woke up as an air force pilot experimenting with a brand new jet for the military and trying to break a speed record which would have been great for someone who knew how to fly. From that moment on history was made and now the second season arrives on DVD which contain some classic episodes that also play a valuable part in the Quantum Leap future. One of my favorite episodes is "Jimmy" (which also sets up "The Evil Leaper" in Season 5) who is a mentally retarded man Sam leaps into and must get society to accept, both in his work place as well as in his home with his brother. "Pool Hall Blues" was another of my favorites from the season. Sam leaps into a legendary pool player who's skills and vision have deteriorated with age and now is in for his final pool match fighting for his granddaughter as well as her place of business against a vial loan shark. The main problem comes up when Sam reveals to Al that he doesn't know how to play pool and what follows is a funny and touching story of one grandfathers love. Other great episodes of the season include "MIA" the season finale where Sam leaps into a detective in the same town as Al's first wife and Al tries to bend the rules of Quantum Leap to help save his marriage which causes Sam to follow the wrong path and ends the show on a sad note. All in all season two was better then the original with more in depth story lines and much more emotional ties to the characters Sam leaps into. This is a must have for any Sci=Fi fan as well as a Quantum Leap lover.

Anime's savior.

Cowboy Bebop is the savior of anime. Released in 1998, nothing as good has come before or since. It throws characters from Lupin the IIIrd into outer space, gives them John Woo and Robotech action sequences, dialogue from Raymond Chandler and Elmore Leonard, and cinematography that approaches the stylistic flair of post-modern greats like Quinten Tarantino and Steven Soderbergh. Not to mention the fantastic bluesy music by Yoko Kanno and the Seatbelts. With a budget of over [money] per episode, this is the one series you should see above all Japanese animated works. It sets the benchmark for the field.

The Most Underrated Film of the 90s

This is hands-down one of the best films I have ever seen. There are too few feature films that present Chinese American life as something multi-dimensional, but the Joy Luck Club manages to do just that. It does away with stereotypes and shallow perceptions of Asian culture. The female leads--both the mothers and the daughters--are strong, beautiful women who are a delight to watch. As Wang takes us from one story to the next, we never tire because each frame is so meticulously crafted, so well done. Ming-Na's monologue about the single swan feather at the opening of the film is lovely. If you love sagas and intergenerational works of perfection, The Joy Luck Club is definitely for you.

Just rocks straight out.

This movie is awesome. Much better than Antz, because for one thing Flik goes to take care of hsi problem than sitting on a psychiatrist's couch whining about it a la Z. The jokes were great, as well as the bloopers during the end credits.
Bug's Life was also the farewell performance of Roddy McDowall, one of the greatest actors _ever_ IMHO, as Mr. Soil. It would have been nice if there had been a small dedication or something like that during the end credits but... Whatcha gonna do?

Excelsior

This is an astounding production. The ballet dancers are superb. Also the music is great. I first viewed Excelsior when Italian television broadcast La Scala's version to North America some time ago. I videotaped it, but I was more than happy when I saw that Amazon offered it on DVD. Any one who purchases this might want to go to the Internet and read what Excelsior is all about before they watch it.

Hours of entertainment

The deleted scenes really help flesh out the movie, and help a great deal for those who did not read the book. I'll assume that you know what LOTR is about already, so I won't bore you with a recap of the movie itself.
The additional bonus material is very entertaining. You get actor's perspective of the filming, location shots and the story behind the movie. The scenery of New Zealand is stunning, so much so you get the feeling that New Zealand's tourism bureau had a hand in making the bonus DVD.
The DVD makes it easy to find additional scenes, or expanded scenes with the menu system. You can also select different Dolby settings for the music.
The sound quality is terrific, and the movie begs for surround sound. If you don't already own a surround sound system, this movie certainly justifies such a purchase.
All in all it is well worth the money, even if you already have the original DVD.
The set includes discounts on tickets and rebate if you bought the original DVD, but there is a time limit for both. If you haven't bought the DVD set by the time the second movie hits the rental stores you'll be too late to take advantage of the discounts.
