Escape fro Sobibor

This movie is a true story about the only "successful" escape from a Nazi Death camp. There were escapes from other camps but not at this level and certainly not from one of the 6 death camps. It answers some intriguing questions about why other attempts weren't tried when the guards where so grossly outnumbered. The intelligence about the camp and the guards supplied by the Jews mixed with the might and war knowledge of the Russian POWs is the reason this was possible. It is entertaining and informative.

A Supremely Subliminal Film!

One Hour Photo is a film of supreme caliber. The film is powered by the haunting, chilling, silencing, and above all-genius performance by Robin Williams. But the rather extroardinary thing is that it is not Robin Williams on the screen, it's Sy Parish (the character's name). Robin Willliams fades away from our senses and slips into the ever so sweet and innocent yet psychotic role of a supermarket's photo developer. The films script is only accented by Williams, at times, restrained performance. Williams ignites on the screen and burns till the last frame, and you are unable to take your eyes off him. As I mentioned the film is sublimly written as well as directed. Though being Romanek's first, I certainly don't think this is a bad start. Romanek's direction adds to the on-going tension throughout the film. More affecting is Williams' delightful calmness. Trying to hold himself in becomes more troublesome for both Williams and his character as the story develops. Yet through the calm eyes of an innocent blaze the fires of hatred and intensity, which could very well sum up Williams' performance. The film does have some disturbing images as well. Yet they are not really strong enough for you to get up from your seat and leave yet rather the opposite. Williams' contribution as well as guidance towards the actions and scenes of peril compell as well as amaze you towards both the performance and film itself. Williams' shocking contribution to the screen is enough to make you cry, scream, and yell in your seat. Because the origins of the character are bittersweet just like own known Williams, leads to a crazed and psychotic breakdown. It's as if watching our own funny and beloved Robin fail us. Though the truth could not be any further, Williams but succeeds in the art of acting, creating an achievment in the field. Creating a landmark. Writing his/its own chapter. I guarantee that this film will be required study material in acting classes for now on. So to conclude: although we were bombarded with great films this past year of 2002, like Minority Report, Insomnia, and the soon-to-comes Gangs of New York and Catch Me If You Can, this was probably my favorite of the year.

This show keeps getting better!

I think that Mr Furley realy improved the comedy in this show.
I also think the more Larry is in this show the better.
I did like Lana in the few episodes she appeared in.She was very attractive.Cant work out why Jack would resist her.
I think the whole cast blossomed in this season, and grew very comfortable in their characters. Its unfortunate that it was to be Chrissys final full season. But i happened to like Terry,i thought she was funny, also she was not trying to copy Chrissy, she was her own character. The reason i'm going to go on about this is because i want to see all 8 seasons released. Those party stoppers who think that the show was no good after Chrissy left, well thats your opinion. There is people like me who want to see all 8 seasons out there.Would of the show lasted 8 seasons if there were no cast changes? What if they hadnt swapped Mr Furley for the Ropers?I believe it would have got stale. But we will never know that for sure.Just accept the show for what it was,and it was a brilliant show, and get over it already will you.Chrissy left in 1981,thats 24 years ago,man some people hold a grudge.
Whew!Now i feel better.
Season 4 has consistently good episodes in it.Its real hard to pick my fav episode. But some that spring to mind are - The New Landlord,A Camping We Will Go,Larry Loves Janet,Handcuffed and their is alot more realy good ones.
The extras are realy good on this.
This is real value for money, get it.

Sparkling, Little-Seen Disney Gems Are a Must!

I am very pleased with thise remarkable DVD set, which include some of Disney's finest work from the early part of his career, the films he created in the thirties prior to moving into feature length works, and which the public of the present day are likely to be the least familiar with. A number of these films can be thought of as Disney's "test tubes" - experimental efforts in both animation technology and narrative form that would lay the foundation for Disney's later efforts. Though I've caught glimpses of some of the Silly Symphonies over the years, this is the first opportunity I've had to take a good look at many of these shorts. Simply, I was astonished; indeed, quite a few of these gems blew my socks off, displaying the sort of ingenuity, artistry and charm that, more lately, we've come to associate with the likes of Pixar features. (Needless to say, I would love to see Pixar try to recreate one of these in their own animation format - perhaps "Musicland" or "The Cookie Carnival") These films have a remarkable individuality and presence that was lost to some of the later Disney features, when Disney, busy with amusement parks, television and the tasks of empire building, relegated animation to a lesser perch. These films represent Disney as a brilliant, ambitious student, learning his craft, before he became "Disney" the business man with his carefully honed commercial instincts. Disney was never more innovative than during this period he was making Silly Symphonies in the thirties - and you can see his progress unfold before your eyes on these DVDs.
The menus take some effort to negotiate - contrary to what is claimed elsewhere, some of the easter eggs are difficult to find. The Practical Pig, Water Babies, and Farmyard Symphonies are not listed in the disc menus, but they are on the discs, some hidden in places you might not initially look - such as the captions menu! (Water Babies is hidden under The Robber Kitten's sword, which can only be accessed with a left to right cursor button, not up and down cursor. I found it by accident!)
All the same, though it is still early in 2002, these DVDs constitute one of the best releases of the year - already on my top ten list. Not to be missed!

Additional scenes make a masterpiece even better

I'm always skeptical of director's cuts. Most of them merely add a few minutes of scenes that should have stayed on the cutting room floor and seem like they were added just to put a few more minutes onto the running time, but this is one director's cut that I would love to see in the theatre. The added scenes fill out the story line, add dimension to the characters and are beautifully produced just for the DVD. They blend in seamlessly to the original cut and are full of gems such as the opening scene where Bilbo gives the audience a short primer on Hobbits showing wonderful shots of Hobbiton not seen in the theatrical release. It also has many scenes of song and poems that are reminiscent of the books and add flavor to the film. I highly recommend this DVD and I only hope that we will see more director's cuts like this in the future.

Ghost World

A fantastic film with extrodinary acting by all the actors. I have gained alot of respect for Nicole Kidman, she is addicting to watch, and her intelligence is apparent when watching her act through scenes. Above all else, I was especially impressed with the acting of the two children in the film. Where do they find these kids? They were remarkable. "The Others" is a creepy, spine tingling film that gave me chills all over. I watched it at night by myself and I was freaked out. When Nicole finally opens the book of the dead, I was horrified. This movie goes way beyond Casper the Friendly Ghost, beware.......

Waiting for a Sequel

Waiting for Guffman is Christopher Guests' and Eugene Levy's best work ever. I absolutely loved this movie. If you liked "Best in Show" and "Here's Spinal Tap," then this movie will certainly WOW you! My only complaint is that the movie is only 84 minutes long. If you can, buy/rent the edition with the extra footage - it's even better than the movie. The additional footage contains vintage Catherine O'Hara in two musical numbers that were cut from the original movie. The story is about "wanna be" Broadway producer, Corky St. Clair (Guest), who directs the town's play in a show he hopes will land him (and them) in Broadway. The town's reaction to the play is even funnier. Great movie - I watch it over and over. "I give this movie two enthusiastic thumbs up!"

Very technical

Thomas lang can break down everything into simplest form. He can do everything that he does with his hands with his feet and vis - versa. Very good to learn technical finger manuvers. Also very good for technical foot manuvers. I DEFINETLY recomend getting this dvd for people a little on the advanced side, it really helps.
